Everything about the class as it stands needs to be changed and reworked in some way. The problem is that if psyker ever got the actual rework it needed no one would play the class. Nerf passive quell speed, buff peril generation on staves to reduce uptime, nerf the dr nodes, make warp rider and one with the warp inverse so you’re rewarded for being at low peril rather than high, and that’s just a few generalized changes. The list can be much, much longer.
For starters the thing staves definitely need is an actual mechanic. Peril isn’t a mechanic, it’s a bar that increases when you use it and decreases when you press R. That’s your tradeoff for free ammo and some of the strongest ranged weapons in the game. You have to press R sometimes. Note: Guns have to do that too but don’t get free ammo. Staves don’t have a mechanic.
There was a only one staff that needs addressing, that’s the infero.
Electovstaff actually needs a bit of a buff and a rework.
You haven’t used the other staves enough if you stink inferno is the only problematic one. EK is okay, largely its power is from psyker having the ability to turn off ranged combat by crit farming and scrier’s and DD, but voidstrike and voidblast are absolutely not fine as they are.
that damn spooge staff has stopped me playing entirely , dont care how OP it is its how fecking awefull it is to be around it , pure distilled eye pain.
In contrast, Overcharge in Vermintide 2 needs you to spend HP or temp HP to vent it when above 20% total Overcharge.
Peril in DT is kind of an afterthought for experienced players. Staves generate tons of Peril but pressing R ain’t hard, and Warp Unbound exists. Most people ‘edge’ their Peril to get the most out of their talents and Blessings, but Peril is mostly just there to make sure you can’t solo the map because you can’t quell and sprint/block simultaneously. And even then, passive quelling is kinda fast. For 90% of builds, Warp Ghost has literally no downsides because pressing R is just free and there are like 3 other ways to quell passively through talents if need be.
It’s such a different, non-restrictive kind of mechanic compared to Overcharge, it’s become pretty abusable nowadays (Warp Unbound, I’m looking at you
) which goes some way to explaining Psyker supremacy through staff spam (also, Force Greatsword is S tier)
Oh, I have.
Not only the caster gameplay loop become dumb in DT, but the staves’ primary attacks are also a downgrade.
It’s like the whole psyker gameplay is stuck in beta version.
Well this morning was “fun”: 3 runs and every run included a Psy spamming surge staffs first attack nonstop… Think I saw once the use of the “real” surge staff in all of the 3 maps. And once anything got up in the face of the psykers 2/3 were dead multiple times.
So Psyker “skill” now is see how fast you can spam the first attack on surge?
This was heresy so flame staff never gets into it’s territory here.
(And yes I’ve played a bit of psy myself about 650 levels of it, but it’s been melee and zarona 80% of it)
They probably should just make so casting on mid-high perill apllies corruption, the higher the perill level the more corruption you take.
But since there are already sources of corruption damage that can decrease psyker’s ability to cast they should either add some inbuilt level of corruption resistance for the psyker, buff CR on curios and in the skill tree. And a way for psyker to get rid of corruption like with melee kills, passive curing, etc.
By making cast-venting loop not being brainded “press R” they can justify for staves to be devastating per use, like increase trauma radius or damage, etc. Maybe even you could leave purgatus to stay infinite cleave spray, who knows.
Staves, Perilous, Smite, Shriek, Scrier, 31 stacks Soulblaze (Burn can no longer hit 31 stacks but Soulblaze still can :), Deimos macro, Purg macro. You could throw darts at a wall and land on something that snaps the game in half. People are not ready to have a conversation about Force Greatsword. I’m glad Fatshark decided they wanted to balance the game around this class.
