I mean i wanted more then 4 hours out of a game i spent this much on. god forbid i don’t finish the game in 8 hours right?
what level of difficulty do you play at?
Sorry in advance for the essay but it just came out this way ![]()
Even if I missunderstood what exactly you were talking about here, I made it perfectly clear how many items the random aspects have given me and what quality they possessed. They were and still are 99.9% useless garbage. I have found all items several times over and the ones I either cared about getting or still use to this day can be counted on a single hand of a quadra amputee. The main issue still stands: it’s not up to me & the overwhealming majority of drops are just sh*t.
I’m not even going into the comments on the list you posted below, just know that a lot of these items are not worth getting and most of the comments are wrong as to why they are “so good”.
I assume that instead of “perk” you meant blessing since a sh*t item with a good perk is still just a sh!t item. Yeah in 3 hours of playing, again, I am very unlikely to see anything worthwhile from any source. In 3 hours I will see plenty of those listed items but that is entirely seperately from whether they are also good variants of those items! It’s not enough to see an auto pistol, it needs to have good stats to even be worth a consideration and it gets even more unlikely if I already have one because now it needs to be better than what I already have.
This is kinda sorta half right. People don’t want to see every item that can be used, they want to chase after certain specific things most of the time. Again you’re ignoring here that even IF I wanted to collect the entire arsenal, that dropped item still needs to be good (meaning have good stats) and we all know, that is very rarely the case!
Did you just say the PS is bad and that with PC4 it’s only “mid”? I don’t even know which joke to go for here… Let’s just go with these 2 then:
- Yeah ehm… who’s your dealer man?
- Don’t let @Ralendil see you type this…
I used the PC4 blessing as en example of something I was chasing for a very long time and I’m sure a lot of players were/are doing the exact same thing. This is and was never about the viability of the PS nor did I say anything on that topic in here. I’m not exactly sure what you’re agreeing to here:
But it can’t be to my take on the PS.
I don’t understand how they are supposedly so very different. The two games fall into the exact same genre of game and both have mod support. The only difference is in the allowed content creating between the two communities of modders. L4D2 allowed the modders to make almost anything where as DT only allows modders to create QoL-style mods for DT. They cannot create their own content or create anything that affects gameplay in any way. They are literally relegated to being the “QoL-departement”.
Very hard disagree on this point. The game doesn’t make you try random weapons at all! You can use whatever you like and be just fine. The way in which the game discourages you from trying new things is very simple: You cannot control how long it will take you to get a good version of the new thing you want to try out. It’s not up to you! Trying the potential of a different weapon with a version that is just “good enough” is not a satisfying test at all. You obviously want the best version of said item to try out because that’s what’s interesting about such a test! It takes you so incredebly long to find this specific, best, version of what you want to try out that you ask yourself if it’s even worth it. Even if the weapon is good, if it underwhealms you, you feel like you wasted ALL THAT TIME AND RESOURCES on an experiment that used to cost you nothing in VT2.
Trying out something new is a serious commitment in DT and that should not be a thing!
And don’t even try to make the argument of “it doesn’t have to be the best version”, blessings and stats have a huge impact on how powerful an item is and comparing random weapons to one another is just not a test that’s interesting to anybody with even the sligtest analytical mindset.
Important distinction here: Yes, getting an item that is good enough is not reliant on RNG, getting an actually good item is however reliant on RNG.
Considering that your assessment of power weapons is entirely false, your point on this being a weapons and not a crafting issue cannot be correct as well.
I understand that not every boltgun is going to be good by default. Just getting a boltgun is not what makes the damn thing so powerful. There is a huge variance in power, depending on which blessing you’re able to put on the gun. The thing about this is that saying that a certain weapon is bad because you need a certain blessing on it is a logical fallacy. If a weapon “needs” a blessing to go from viable to BIS, which blessing do you think people will chase? Pretty obvious right? Now, follow me on this one: If people are chasing a certain blessing for a weapon they know makes their fav. weapon much better but said blessing is very hard to optain through the system, is that a problem with the weapon or the system?
If you still think it’s a weapon problem: Will these people stop chasing this specific blessing if they haven’t gotten it yet? Obviously not, it’s still a problem with the system. Either that or they actually do stop chasing it by quitting the game which is not what anybody wants. THIS is ecxactly the issue DT is facing rn. The majority of people have quit precicely because it’s an issue with DTs systems! Nobody quits a game because one weapon they wanna use is bad no matter what they do, people quit because getting what they want is too much of an investment of their very precious time.
As a final thing to this discussion: You don’t seemingly go into all the more important points here.
Is that because you agree with me or are the last two points really more interesting to talk about? I’m just confused is all.
Just as an example of what I’m talking about: “You simply have the opposite philosophy to that of the older VT2 enjoyers. It’s not supposed to take you forever to get the items you want to then challenge yourself. Getting the gear isn’t supposed to be the challenge, that’s alll “we” have been asking for since the start!”
or
“how big a roll that that journey to your desired gear should play.”
These two talking points are less intereting to you than agreeing to a point I havent even made?
I can confirm… on my veteran, I use the PS for 3 of my templates. 1 use a combat axe, cause of the coherency with the shotgun that forces to close combat and the last is the “special Melk’s contracts” that I use a tactical axe cause I want to be as fast as possible…
Yesterday I made missions with my veteran (the woman). I used my template Bolter (pinning fire T4, Shattering Impact T3) and a PS MKVI (sunder + PC T4). I ended two times as top damages. Sure the boltgun helped, but I was the player with highest melee damages done.
So… PS useless? I can say no. You have just to learn to adapt to this weapon.
If you read at least the conclusion of my above post, You can get a BIS weapon in short order. (best in slot)
How are you defining this? Are we defining “BIS” as a perfect weapon? A brand of meta? A thunder hammer that can 2 shot a daemon host is considered “BIS” I would think and it is not something you can get in short order. How are you defining “short order”?
is miss-framing, the game mandates that you try random weapons. But ppl want a PC4 power sword. the deves SHOULD know that, its not a new phenomenon that everyone picks one of 3 things that’s game design 101 and, making it a rare perk required to use the one weapon ppl want.
I don’t think so. The reason I think it’s accurate is because if I got my power cycler power sword and played with it a long time I would PROBABLY want to try something else after awhile. I would want to try another character/class or try a different weapon. Maybe even a power sword just with different blessings or perks. Something is wrong in how you balance a game if everyone wants to use the same weapons or see a blessing as mandatory on that weapon. If I am still not done getting my “perfect” weapon, I will likely keep farming for it. Once I compromise, sigh, and say “fine, good enough can’t be bothered” you can get the same on some other weapons, but then what? You likely have a bunch of “good enough” and can no longer meaningfully advance any of them.
but its a weapons problem, not the crafting system.
It’s both. Your weapons, perks, and blessings all need to be balanced. It should be about trade offs and choices. Maybe a blessing is too strong or necessary. Make it part of the weapon, and nerf it in other ways. Maybe, add a downside to that blessing (makes the weapon heavier and slower attack speed or something). The issue, still, is people want to be able to experiment and customize. Power balance shouldn’t be left to RNG, all players should have a semblance of similar loot quality after (arbitrary number 800 hours let’s say) and can tackle the hardest difficulty without feeling like they can’t hit breakpoints or have someone two shotting bosses because they got real lucky on a hammer they can’t get despite wasting lots of resources on.
All that being said, it seems like, thankfully, fatshark is acknowledging and reviewing the crafting locks and balance passes in general.
Can’t let this thread die. Fatshark must always remember we don’t like the locks in this game.
