Word on the street is Selaco is supposed to be similar. Trepang2 was also similar but not FEAR levels, cuz no one has been quite that good.

The memories. I remember my first LAN deathmatches were in 97’ on a netcafe with some school friends. We played Quake 1 on keyboard and had no idea how much using a mouse could do for us. (I played Doom 1 & 2 on my first PC but never LANed with anyone, I only knew one other guy with a PC at the time). But GOD-DAMN it was fun. Hooked for life.

One of those school friends went on to play in one of Europe’s best Quake 1 clans (I met him years later and thought I was good up until that point). A few years later when I was playing Quake III arena I became friends with a player from the old Danish Q3 clan Vikings, which IIRC won a European championship at some point.

Anyway, probably the biggest spanking I ever got in any deathmatch game, and I was almost always the best at FPS games in my friends group. I brought my pc to him and we played an entire weekend, both online games (he was one of the very rare people with a fiber connection at home, at the time) and 1v1 on LAN. In 2 days I didn’t manage to kill him one single time in a 1v1 deathmatch. Average score was about 65-0. He played as if he had an aimbot, and I was sitting there watching his screen and couldn’t believe was I saw. Made me realize how there was truly levels to this thing. He had actual aiming talent I’ve never seen like it from anyone else. I’ve got the stories…

HL2 ai is kinda good aswell

These are the kinds of videos that make wish Darktide would’ve had this kind of AI as well. Not to say that the AI in DT sucks by any means. It’s actually pretty neat when you get into the nitty gritty details, but still not up to the quality of F.E.A.R. or HL2.

reminds me of stalker shadow of chernobyl’s AI, that would fight each others in random encounters and loot each other’s corpses

even Fallout NV AI was cool, picking up random stuff from the ground and using it against you

What’s the alternative? Buffing all weapons and keeping all enemies underpowered? Is that balance?

“Underpowered” right. Maybe in Malice I suppose?

Enemies are definitely underpowered compared to the tools we have in Aurics, and havoc is a buggy game design mess with 100% damage immune enemies so it circles so far around to the other side it stops being fun too

sadly never had the opportunity for the big leagues but one thing I remember

(well that’s the thing I remember the aftermath)

was a match in unreal tournament 2003 with something like 110:-3

(dude actually blew himself up with blast damage getting hit by his own rockets)

thing is, 3/4 of a bottle of jack in, I won while having a blackout :face_with_tongue: couldnt even remember having played in the first place

only the recording of the match showed me do my “drunken kung fu”…. and the toilet I managed to… “desecrate”

welp, was a lesson for sure, thanked and apologized to my opponent after cleaning my mess and getting something against that hangover :rofl:

oh yeah and that tournament where the guys in charge had no clue about their own timeline and woke me up 3x , 2a.m 4a.m and 8a.m to continue fighting while for whatever reason my last opponent had a solid rest. you can guess the outcome and my :face_with_steam_from_nose:
