How to fix: Endgame, Gear Progression and Ressource Imbalances all at once

Grind is fun so long as you can see yourself making progress towards your goals, that’s how MMO’s like warframe and destiny pull such massive amounts of players even after 10 years.

The problem with darktide is that there IS no “progression”, you spend dozens of hours playing with gear that you don’t want to use and isn’t fun, to scratch together resources in the hopes of getting something that you want to play with, only to just dump them down the drain and get nothing for it time and time again with no sign of it ever changing no matter how much more you do it.

If the devs actually spent the time to play the game like the players do, grinding their way up, they would see how soul crushingly not fun this system is, and understand why the game just makes people give up and go elsewhere.
The loot system is so horrendously bad, the shops with their timed rotations only have absolute garbage no one can make any use of 98% of the time, and when you do find something you can work with 2% of the time, it just gets destroyed by their “crafting system”, which also has nothing to do with crafting - it’s just a method to modify weapon stats that actively works against you at every turn with random rolls and locks. Crafting means knowing what you’re investing in and getting a return on that.
Make the “crafting prices” 10x higher for all I care, but remove the locks, and people would love it, I swear to god, because then at least you know what you’re working towards and can see the goal on the horizon.
Make the shops reset after every completed mission - “loot found on the battlefield”, and make it worthwhile, motivate people to get into the game and reward them for it, instead of just mindlessly checking the shop every hour only to find useless trash again and log off in disgust.
THAT’S what grinding means, this current system is just working minimum wage to buy scratch cards and hoping to win the lottery.
It’s awful.
What happened to the destiny style power level system from VT that added your total gear score together and made sure all loot you found/bought was always a little bit better than your average?
That’s progression, and it works fantastically.

  1. I’m sure that they know it.
  2. This is really not a lot of money for what you are asking her to do.

No! This is against the Ineffable Design. It might even be like CoD. There is no negotiation with the terrorists like you who want to destabilize the Order and bring the realization of the Ineffable Design in question.

I mean, why do so many of you people think Fatshark is not aware of all this and a lot more and that when they read such detailed proposals they will think “Oh, what a great idea, how come we never thought of that? Let’s do it! Now! Even if we have to work nights and weekends!”

Got anything useful to say?

I do not think that anyone at this point believes, that FS are not aware.
Why are FS aware? Because this kind of feedback keeps coming.

The alternative to saying what kind of changes we would like, is to wine, or to be silent about it.
I am sure that not giving any kind of constructive feedback, is not the better idea.

No need to be a doom sayer in every thread that tries to improve things.
If you think that any kind of feedback is useless anyway, just leave.

I consider this not only very arrogant of you, but also condescending of Fatshark’s competence.

Sure. Consider what you want.

But it is quite ridiculous that you would consider it arrogant and condescending, when i say that continuous feedback from community members, in regard to certain issues, raises Fatshark‘s awareness about these issues.

OK, let’s try this with simpler words: your idea that Fatshark is not aware of such huge design issues that the community has been pointing out so it needs such a suggestion from you, which is just a variation of many other bona fide comments, is presuming their utter incompetence. Now, I know some people can relate to the latter because of long standing bugs that particularly bother them, but that is definitively not the overall case.

I literally just said, that i think pretty much everyone assumes that FS are aware at this point.

Still, this is what you claim my idea to be, although it is contrary to what i just said my idea actually was.
Because of how obviously wrong you are, and how you have misrepresented my statements and my intention, i have to assume that you are purposely doing so in order to cause an argument.

So your opinion goes straight in the garbage, and our conversation ends here.

This is it PRECISELY. Take Warframe. Warframe has a ton of RNG but it is a deterministic process once I clear the RNG threshold. Acquisition of good gear is randomized, but customizing the gear to match my desired build is purely deterministic. I can do what I want with it once I manage to get it. THUS I can experiment with cool weapon builds. I am exactly the kind of guy that does that too. I like to take the worst weapons in a game and try to find some value in them. I like to look for something fun in something unpopular. But in DarkTide I have to spend a ton of time and energy playing the infinite slots roulette blackjack bingo machine to try and get something adequate and even then I can’t tell if it sucks because I’m missing some key blessing or not. I have a pretty good chainsword but I have no idea if its good or bad because I can’t compare it to anything really. I just have to guess.

That’s not a game, its a waste of time.
Anway, I’m just here to reinforce that the idea posted by OP in which I can pay to unlock things is a good idea and I like it.

Raising awareness by having it continually be discussed is good, but no suggestion in the forum, no matter the number of likes or posts agreeing with it, will be a silver bullet that makes Fatshark fix the itemisation.

The silence from them about this is damning.

True.
No matter how much feedback we give them, in the end, they still have to do something about it.

True.
And i can understand those who have left because they lost hope.

But i have absolutely no understanding, or respect for people, who stick around to visit every constructive thread they can find, and leave their dooming messages while trying to tear down reasonable feedback (like a certain someone seems to do).

There are some other posts floating around that have an air of defeatism to them too, like trying to make suggestions “realistic” or “easier” to implement by avoiding suggesting big changes like removing locks.

If they want to do that, they can do that, but what I hate is their attempts to shut out other suggestions by calling them “unrealistic”. Like attempting to fellating the dev’s egos would make it any more likely their suggestions get implemented.

Yea but did you see how many other people in this thread would chip in tho? This is bound to work, it’s the only strat we haven’t tried yet.

At this point I think it’s the best we can hope for - at least for a long time. I want the winds of magic crafting system to come back. But it won’t happen, there’s no way that they’re going to rip out any major system and rework it at the moment when everything else is going on. Best we can hope for is some tweaks and adjustments to what we have now.

That’s why I like OP’s suggestions so much. It’s an adjustment that would fix most of the issues. Not a complete rework like we’re hoping for.

Kinda understandable though.
Bargaining for scraps, as temporary solutions. Still better than what we have right now.

I am sure you were entirely serious in your bribing attempt as well.

Maybe we should open a gofundme for a fix for crafting in darktide.

Edited (when I realized to which of my messages you replied to): I agree, your idea is indeed a novel approach. But it needs a lot more money.

I don’t remember well, so i could be wrong, but i think people were shitting on WoM update hard (i was shitting on it too, to be fair), so Athanor pot was appreciated too late, maybe Fatshark don’t even know they did it well, heh.

Iirc, people did not like that the item systems from weaves and regular missions were completely separated.
In the beginning, you had to play weaves to get the currency for weave gear upgrades. So although you already had good gear for regular missions, you basically had to start playing weaves with nothing.

Later, they added the currency gain from regular missions, so you could start playing weaves without starting with nothing, after playing enough regular missions to farm the currency.

The system itself, as it allows to swap around the stats on the items, i think, is pretty much universally liked.
I have seen a bunch of people suggest the same system for Darktide as well.

I personaly didn’t like WoM cause i thought winds will modify campaign maps, and we got just some map chunks and a few arenas. Well, Fatshark has some strange manner to not let people enjoy good ideas they have.

People asking for nurglings (one of my favorite thing they did) to stay even after events - ignored
People asking for halloween wether to stay in the pool - ignored
A quite drink, one of the coolest map they have - only in modified realm or event
People like Athanor - ignored

Well, yes, but they were not shitting on Athanor per se, rather on how it was a completely different system with separate progression etc.
