Hounds can pounce at players without turning towards them

Issue Type (Required):

Enemy Mechanics

Issue Description (Required):

I had few cases in the past where hounds did the pouncing attack at 90 degree angle, which was suspicious and questionable at best.

This case was 180 degree pounce, you can clearly see that the hound jumps with its back turned to me, without turning around first. Slow down the video to see clearly, the hound turns around to face me MID jump.

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

Yes, but I haven’t tried disabling them

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Rare (<10%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Also:

  • they can pounce without any sound cue
  • they can change direction in the air
  • they can pounce without the warning delay, there is no consistency.

If I could encapsulate most gameplay issues in Darktide, then “No consistency” would be the title.

yes true, sometimes they jump way faster than the usual.

not sure if this is a bug or intended (i don’t mind, cause it’s cool having 2 timings)
but yes its too way inconsistent to be a mechanic.

usually they stop and jump to the player, other times they run while also jumping at the same time.

It’s an old bug, and it’s supposed to be a collection of bugs of dog, which I remember coming out of the December 2023 update

This thread is the only place I have seen anyone mentioning possible bugs to the hounds. Have hounds changed since the Rolling Steel release or am I tripping?

Hounds were never a problem to me before that release, but ever since then, I get pinned by the majority of hounds that leap at me. Sometimes they won’t make a sound cue until they are already in my face. Sometimes they don’t even take a pause before leaping like they used to, or if they are, it’s barely noticeable. I’ve seen them run and just leap at me. Tonight I had a hound go right through my melee block/push.

They have become the worst threat in the game for me. Which is insane because they were never an issue for me before the Rolling Steel release.

Could it be a latency issue on my end? The game seems to run fine overall. Or is this actually a known bug?
