Hi everybody, im new here and im looking for some advise on trying to find a decent tac axe , im not sure what would be a decent tac axe to aim to get. Many thsnks for your time .
My main is an Atrox Mk II (25%Flak/Carapace) with Brutal Momentum and Agile. The others are fun too but this feels like the combos are the best to deal with single-target and hordes. It also excels at mixing lights and heavies in a lot of situations, making it feel like one of the more flowy weapons.
Atrox Mk2 Tactical Axe with Damage as the 60 stat and 80s in all others. Perks Flak/Stamina (or Carapace) and blessings Agile/Brutal Momentum, replace Agile with Headtaker if you think you don’t need the extra dodges.
Tacaxes are better at horde clearing than Dueling Swords, but have significantly worse single-target damage. I wouldn’t ever use a tacaxe’s heavy attack unless you’re charging with Fury of the Faithful or using Shroudfield.
2, shred brutal momentum mobility dump, flak unarmored
Switch to a combat axe…
Seriously, this weapon is weak.
But if REALLY you want to push for this weapon, you can try it in the practice area.
We can, now, change the mark of a weapon. Test them in the psy.
Perso I use the mark IV. Cause of the heavies.
Also, I had written this about axes:
I’d be inclined to agree with Ralendil.
The Antax mk V combat axe gives you left-right then right-left light attacks that you can chain without thinking about it. You simply side step (or dodge) the opposite way to the strike meaning you’re able to keep an easy bead on the enemy.
Then you’ve got a simple over-head for the heavy attack you can repeat as needed.
I feel… even now, tactical axes (while fast) are well behind in the running for melee weapons.
I double that, albeit any Taxe variant can work to decent extent. I personally like 7 the most, but 2 likely has the most accessible and efficient wave clear.
Bit more effort in horde as you’ll be striking one at a time and dodging/blocking alot more.
But for quick vertical strike downs and fast follow ups with ease of back pedal and going in again for safety can’t go wrong with combat axe for anti-armor single target.
OP has asked for Taxe advice, and not for being steered away to Caxe, folks.
TacAxes have been in a bit of a sorry spot for quite a while, so you’d be better off with some other weapons. There’s 3 other weapons that basically do the same job, only better:
- Duelling Sword
- Has higher mobility (and related blessings like Agile), the same sprint efficiency and about the same cleave / horde clear
- But DS is much stronger against armor, has the highest single-target dmg in the game, a better reach, and a far simpler & easier moveset for cleave, single-target, CC, all of it
- The only thing where TacAxes really win is their base +12% crit
- Combat Blade
- Has superior mobility & sprint efficiency, higher base crit (15%) and far higher single target dmg on account of both the bleed & rending blessings
- The only thing TacAxes have over these really is cleave, Agile & better CC from special. But knives are so mobile they don’t need Agile or CC (especially if you use dodge-slides), and bleeds don’t care about cleave dmg fall-off so overall it’s so-so.
- Combat Axe
- Has far better raw dmg & cleave and a way simpler moveset
- But loses out a lot on crit, finesse dmg, attack speed and mobility
tldr;
- If you want the closest thing to a TacAxe but better → take Duelling Sword IV
- If you want the best crit & mobility, with utility like bleeds & anti-armor → take Combat Blade (either mark is fine, personally I prefer III)
- If you just really want an axe (with arguably one of the best mixed horde clears in the entire game) → pick a Combat Axe (Rashad or Antax)
TacAxes aren’t bad weapons tho. But sadly imo they’re more of a novelty suited for experienced players who just want to do something different and don’t mind the price.
Edit: If you do want a TacAxe however, they’re quite different. Here’s a pic from my old notes about weapon combos:
Basically IV is by far the easiest of the 3, where VII is the trickest but many experienced TacAxers consider it the best for being able to do just about everything, and II is the middle ground in ease-of-use and utility.
OP has said they are new, and therefore might welcome the suggestion to use a combat axe for their melee needs.
Agreed. If I’m new and ask “how to do X” when X is not really a good thing to do, I would expect people to tell me that and give me similar but better options instead.
It would be different if OP had said they were experienced and knew the situation, but wanted to use TacAxes anyway.
I suppose that’s fair. I still would have rather just given them straightforward answer, but Elodie has put it in the best of both worlds.
Tac axe is a wonderfull melee. Heavies/push attacks can perma stagger ragers.
Brutal momentum gives the best consistent cleave needed for hordes.
Shred is the best damage blessing.
I prefer mkII with a heavy/push attack rotation for (mixed) hordes, this will leave you stamina less if not build into stamina replenishment. The light attacks have a very nice (long) strike down hit box for weak spot mulching big enemies.
I don’t understand how anyone likes those things. They’re slow as molasses and are worse against armor, even with Thrust.
This. For Vet, sure combat axe offers great cleave and is a decent pick, but for Zealot and Psyker combat axe is a noticeable downgrade from Relic/Force Greatswords.
