Okay…
But how long do you think it would take them to change private games, that currently require 2 players, to allow going private alone?
In other words, how many minutes, hours, or days would it take to change a ‘2’ to a ‘1’?
I don’t buy what they said… as a quick fix, introducing a possibility to go solo via the private game feature is the right move.
Additionally, this can fix the problem of private penances. Yes I know that few could play on heresy to unlock these penances, but at least it would give the possibility
They didn’t straight up state it to my knowledge, but pre-release marketting material and CM statements made reference to how the careers (or whatever they called the equivalent at the time, I think classes) work in a vastly different, more free-form way than the VT2 careers.
Then the game comes out and it’s just the VT2 careers. Then no questions are answered to how it’s different. Then the talent tree overhaul happens.
Basically this timeline:
They had big plans of making talent trees or something similar.
They communicated those plans.
Then they just hack chopped the VT2 career-like approach together for release, and they thought they were just going to run with that, and promised 1 more career per quarter, which wasn’t that unrealistic due to the amount of half finished skills and talents they apparently had in the code at the time. They did not communicate any of this.
Then they redecided and went for the talent trees at some point. They did not communicate any of this
We got the talent trees and they resemble very closely what the plans in bullet point 2 outlined
I think he’s wrong saying the devs act like it was a placeholder, but I think it’s easy to come to the conclusion that it actually was a placeholder when looking at the timeline here. The devs did, for what it’s worth, actually and directly state that the crafting system implementation was a placeholder by putting “coming soon!” on ingame UI elements.
It’s not a matter of implementation really, it’s more likely a matter of them thinking it will impact either their servers or the public matchmaking negatively. It would be beyond simple to implement, as you say.
The other issue that might reasonably arise is that the bots suck so much ass that and solo player mode would highlight this issue. So to avoid negative reactions to that they might view fixing up the bots first as a necessity. I could be wrong but I think they even stated this closely after release. But that doesn’t seem THAT high effort to me either, and they promised this too, but it’s kind of just shifting the problem to a very similar problem.
Sorry we’re too busy figuring out how to remove every last ounce of challenge left in this game whatsoever, at which point bots or not will make absolutely no difference
every PC player can do it actually…
So, I don’t buy also this excuse that come from several players (but hopefully Fatshark is enough decent to not use this excuse).
Bots suck… but it is absolutely possible to play as solo. And I said a bandaid. But if you want to ameliorate them, there is already a mod that permits, in solo mod so without progression, to use your own characters as bots. So using a zealot, ogryn etc.
But yes bots don’t know how to use their ult, they suck at a lot of things… but they are the best at reviving you in middle of an horde (but sometimes they don’t even try) etc…
However, let’s say it. We talk about solo, not solo with bots.
Well, let’s admit they want to fix bots before… then they have to put this as priority. 2 years!
OR, and I would prefer that instead of a long development for something that won’t be used by the majority, they just change this number and let it as this.
If they are really kind, they can add the possibility to use our char as bots, as I said earlier.
Changing one number and implementing a mod that already exists should not take them one month.
But let’s face it… any excuse are wrong at this point. And saying this is not the priority is a LIE if you don’t plan to do it. And after 2 years… this is not normal to not have an answer about this topic.
Especially cause it is easy to fix.
Well, the whole MMT stuff is probably an oversight and they might not even be actually aware of it, and even if some devs are it might not factor into the whole dev strategy since it might not be mentioned. I obviously agree with you that it’s a flimsy excuse, but I do think it might factor into the decision to not pursue it
I agree with you, but I’m just listing reasons for why it might not be happening. I think realistically it’s a combination of the bots issue and the servers issue. Think of it as “we’re probably going to have to spend dev time on bots just so we can increase our own server costs” and you can see why it might not be a very popular pitch to a suit.
Here’s all I remember seeing about classes. Seems to me that they were trying to differentiate between classes and careers because there are tangible differences between the two: customization instead of distinct heroes (a core competency and much-loved feature), cosmetics shared between them (unlike careers), and who knows what else. I don’t really get a “more than” vibe that insinuates a talent tree, and the class-a-quarter was stated, so who knows.
They are aware of it, but said over a year ago that they might at some point change how long servers stick around for (which could negatively affect MMT) at some point in the future.
While similar, classes are not the same as careers (in Vermintide). Some of this will become clearer as you jump into our Closed beta this weekend, but most of it won’t show up until the full play experience closer to launch. More specifically, you can expect a deeper narrative experience, greater range, and more options in character customization.
This statement is bullet point 1 and 2 on my list:
Cue release, and the classes are the exact same as careers in Vermintide. That’s part of bullet point 3 on the timeline I suggested:
It seems to me the whole
but most of it won’t show up until the full play experience closer to launch.
Just got dropped and postponed until the talent tree rework, because that never changed on or before launch
I assume that character customization also related to something talent or class related. I’m not saying it had to be trees, but the reading this gives me is that there’s more to careers than just the VT2 system. It ended up being a literal 1:1 copypaste of the VT2 system, just left to right instead of top to down.
The character customization seems to be the actual visual customization and the fact that, unlike careers, cosmetics were going to be locked to archetypes and not classes.

It’s clearly relating character customization to the careers. I’m not sure where the relation would be if that referred to the actual cosmetic choices screen, but I can see that reading too. I just didn’t interpret it that way at all because the entire paragraph is talking about careers
yes they are aware of it. And if they would not be agree about this, they would have removed it.
They are aware of the mods that are released. And they are even part of the discord.
So they cannot have missed it.
And that’s also the reason why I really want solo.
While I will never understand why people need solo mode in games that weren’t designed and balanced for that, no one was forcing Fatshark to give promises.
The fact they are holding community in uncertainty is just extremely disrespectful.
I like your commitment to this bit. Its still absent and there’s still crickets about it aside from the ‘well just use mods’ forever ago. Not good enough guy. Remove the 2 player restriction from private lobbies.
