exactly, this is fatsharks problem. they never shoot for the stars, they will ALWAYS choose the easiest and laziest path in developing new content.
I think thatās not exactly true as a rule. They did shoot for the stars with like, 4 out of 5 VT2 DLC classes. Sienna getting a necromancer career is lorewise on the level of an eldar in Darktide. And mechanically Iām not sure anyoen really expected them to actually make a minion career work.
Darktide is definitely short in the way of all this though so far. I donāt know how much growth there is left in Darktide either, remains to be seen
I mean if all the problem with hive scum is the trailer we can spend all the way to release dunking on fatsharks marketing department. Theyāve always been garbage and have no idea how to advertise anything. The arbites trailer is mid to me but it stumbled its way to being a success probably because it just had more work put into it and it was the first time we ever got to see a new class in this game.
While I know the memes about the crackhead knife wielding stealthlots that go forward and die all the time and all the players who go around named āfentgoblinā or whatever, the zealots themselves in dialogue are extremely pious and argent about their faith to a fault, and thatās what they fill with their skill tree and everything, anything else is just community roleplay.
Hive scum, on the other hand,is the actual roleplay those kinds of players are aiming for in the actual gameplay. Using weird and crooked weapons dashing around at mach 9 blasting enemies while stimming themselves and teammates at all times.
In terms of role and archetype I think hive scum is both a unique perspective from the other rejects and arbites and has a far more interesting set of abilities as well. Nowadays people are afraid to play zealot in melee and complain that zealot does no damage because of it, but hive scum can go all in on melee. People complain that vet canāt shoot and handle melee enemies that well, but scum has an ability designed around this. Support roles have been such a fake descriptor in this game, but the stims and an ability to provide it to the entire team sounds incredibly awesome as a support build option that is unique from nuncio aquila (debuffing enemies), bubble shield (protection from ranged attacks) or chorus (disabling yourself in order to turn off nearby enemies)
This class has a ton of unique potential in how it plays and interact with the other classes.
