Gloriana polite request

Soooo…after failing 5 auric attempts at this f***ing map in a row in exactly the same place (yes the big room with zero godamn cover, where else!) I feel it might be time to politely ask if everyone could consider…if it’s not too much bother or hassle…and y’know, you feel up to it…and you’re comfortable to do so…would it please be possible for you to…at least have a teeny tiny attempt at…

…doing the mission objectives?

Instead of just running around like a headless chicken on your own?

I know, I know. That’s probably asking a lot. Very selfish of me, but it would be ever so nice to see a bit more of that map again.

Each attempt today was with different randoms, all on auric damnation and each time I died whilst pulling a mission objective lever or rod. Each damn time I was the only one going for them. Either up on the balcony or at one of the rods.

So no cover whatsoever from any teamates and not revived once in any of the 5 games because it’s basically impossible to be revived in that room due to relentless enemy density, especially when your team mate is just attempting and failing at a solo session on the other side of the map.

The enemies never stop coming in that room. You just have to stick together and get the objectives done asap.

I did like this map before but this part with the rods is making me hate it and I’ve actually been avoiding the map due to this stupidly overtuned section. Today made me remember why I’d been avoiding it.

Probably loads of fun if you’re in a team who communicates with voice. I hope that 0.1% of the playerbase have fun there.

No time for objectives, in any game, only time for killing.

That’s the outside bit yes, just before you get in to the shuttle/train ?

Needs more glowing flashing lights on the objectives. Probably a longer period between the button presses so one person can do it all… because there are no practical means of communication with someone who has turned off voice and text chat, and if you’re busy, aiming a “Go there” marker can be difficult. You’re kinda reliant on two people doing objectives in a short time frame.

Speaking of which… the new Rolling Steel map touted “needing co-ordination”, so if it’s something similar to Gloriana that’s gonna cause a lot of wipes.

shows that not even those setups stop ill prepared people reconsidering their choice of difficulty.

the map itself is great visually and encounter wise.
its mind boggling that this sequence, and considering two people at the job not being an overall complex one, is a make or break for a run.

the “real” fun is having a daemonhost at the round vertical section after the train sprinkled in with another boss yeeting people around.

that i could consider as “unavoidable” dumb stuff going to happen.

what i had one or two times were voice lines saying you’re to late try again, when the input was deemed valid still and we could proceed.

such delays in information i can see as getting people out of rhythm.

wether thats an issue on my client part alone of course i cant say for sure.

other than that, simple repositioning/regrouping, not committing to useless shoot outs, using the half circle hallway in the back as 2 entry chokepoint etc. all stuff that seems to let peoples brains explode the moment they hop onto auric maelstrom :man_shrugging:

Deffo had one or two runs end here because we didnt know what was going on :joy:

They might not actually know what to do? Makes me wonder how many people are just gonna smash their face in to the new train level on Aurics without actually checking the net or trying on a lower difficulty first.

Pride before a fall.

I’d not personally consider it an outside area but hard to tell on this map. It’s the big open area where you have to hit the leaver then run to the broken rod and pull the lever there then do it over again at least 2-3 times.

Constantly dying here because my teamates have lost the ability to brain is truly making me avoid this map which is annoying as the rest of it is fun (and I want to tick off the penance!).

I think, no I know, that there are players out there who will refuse to be the person to complete a puzzle objective. I actually suspect they are quite common.

Maybe there should be more maps where you don’t have to solve trivial puzzles, but instead all stand by a lever and pull it in a short space of time. Big green light can go off above your head or something to show you’ve done it. That should be right at the start of the mission before any enemies appear, just to get some practice in! Would need some BOT upgrades ofc.

The best way to solve this would be to turn the lever “pull” action to a simple button “press” so you could sprint and punch the button and leg it. Having to stand still and pull a level whilst your headless-chicken teamates are off on their holibobs is what’s making it impossible.

It’s literally impossible to stand still in this section as there are never less than 2000000 enemies at any one point, no matter how many you kill. And many of these are the new gunners who might as well be snipers and can shoot through literally anything from any distance and zero cover.

U mean this bit?

Yep that bit.

You dont have to reset the fuse every time if your quick enough, just in case u didnt know

But even then, with a bad team that doesnt help and hordes around I assume its annoying (sometimes impossible) to do it yourself on Aurics without having to reset the fuse multiple times, especially on hi-intensity :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Aye, pulling the lever is punishment for not resetting the rods in time.

It’s a bit easier once you learn that each row is only going to have one failure (3 rows, 3 failures in total) and the enemy density is heavily weighted on the left side (At least initially, the 3 doors on the left will spawn a ton of trash/gunners, plus the hallway you just came from).

So as an Auric QP Andy myself, who had to do this nonsense 50 times for the penance, here’s my tactic.

1.) Reach this area first, clear out any loose enemies before someone starts the event.

2.) Position yourself at the farthest, leftmost syncronizer. Wait for a teammate to start the event.

3.) Fight from left to right (Slowly walking backwards, facing the enemy spawns), saving any Combat Abilities/Blitz/Crowd Clear for when the first syncronizer goes off (If you get lucky, it won’t be the first 3, which will no doubt be swarmed.) Use barrels if you got them.

4.) When the syncronizer goes off, try and complete it ASAP, using Blitz/CA’s/whatever resources you got (Invisibility is best here, but anything to buy you time to reset the rod). If there’s too much heat, accept the time loss and retreat to better ground until the area around the rod is clear.

5.) After resetting, there will be no more failures on this row, so go up a row and head back to the leftmost side of the arena and wait for it to cycle back around. Use this time to clear trash and high priority targets around the leftside of the arena.

6.) Repeat steps 3-5 2 more times.

Gunners and snipers are going to be high priority threats, followed by bombers and flamers of course. If one of the latter targets you, move away from the syncronizers so as to not make repairing them impossible. Be mindful about being separated from the team, as 9/10 times they’ll be camped out on or around the highground but if you can, kindly ask they fight in the rows instead, there’s more cover there than it looks (Unless you’re an ogryn).

Every match is a bit different, so this tactic won’t always work as well everytime. But hopefully, some of this advice proves helpful!

Thats cool, I didnt know that.
But, does it mean that each row can potentially only have 1 failure max?
As Iv had times where a row hasnt failed at all.

As far as I know, it’s one failure per row, no more and no less. But I’ll be keeping an eye on it in case I’m wrong.

Maybe its different on Malice but Iv had rows with no failures for sure and I cant recall ever having more than one.

It would be good to know that a failure in a row means no more failures in that row can happen and I can run back to the next row ready to catch that rows potential failure… if that makes sense?

Aye, it really takes a lot of pressure off not having to wait for a row to finish.

So you’re saying that not everyone has learned the brand new map yet? Shocking.

Brand new?

And anyone who hasn’t played a map should honestly not be jumping straight into auric damnation on it.
