General feedback so far

  1. Having the weapon special ability bound to… I think mouse 4? 5? One of the side buttons? It’s weird and unintuitive, I’ve literally never ran across a game that had a default keybind for anything beyond mouse 3. I ended up rebinding it to mouse 3 and binding tag to V.

  2. No sprint toggle option makes sliding really awkward on keyboard. I have to hold shift and hit control with the same button, a sprint toggle would fix it immediately.

  3. The Psyker’s head-popping ability is really, really slow to use, often times another player would kill the target I was aiming at before it was even halfway charged. Also, channeling away Perils takes way too long, especially with how it makes your screen all wibbly and how the daemons are chittering in your ears while you’re at high perils.

  4. Reloads start instantly when you fire your last shot, canceling the recoil animation. It looks really jarring, especially when it happens when you’re aiming.

  5. A flashlight wouldn’t hurt, guys. We went over this with Doom 3, I get that the game is supposed to be dark, but shooting at indistinct shadowy blobs is more annoying than not.

I’ll just drop my own general feedback after 5 hours on this thread too (as I’m not allowed to make new ones it seems).

Good stuff:
-Immersion is very nice, enemy hordes clipping into each others is a small complaint, but not that bad.
-Graphics are great. Surprisingly heavy though, and there seems to be something funny going on in inventory and lobby. (My HW isn’t terribly bad, i9-10900 32GB, NVMe, rtx3080 and game basically freezes sometimes, not during missions though, those run well enough on my 5760x1200 resolution.)
-Combat is lot of fun and challenging too.
-Stability for Beta. No issues running the game, some launches are much less stable.

Bad stuff:
-No idea about leveling after 5+ hours of playtime. Got some slightly better guns and beatsticks. Yay.
-For some reason some of the spirit from Vermitides is missing (and this comes form 40k fan). Really hard to point a finger there, but I guess going more generic and customizable took something out. Hard to say if I can pull hundreds of hours fun out from this. Certainly worth the $40 or so price tag though, will by day 1.
-Would like to test out different weapons faster.

Overall, I quite enjoy the game but it remains to be seen if it can out do Vermitide 1 & 2. Needs bit more spirit IMO.

Finally, Survey gaming experience examples. Those are terrible. I mainly play simulators, but your examples vere so much off the grid refused to click that option. DCS or MSFS is a simulator, I have no idea what those two examples were. Please, fix. There were other similar picks, with those options, I haven’t played a single game in last 6 months I guess.

I am enjoying the game for now. Everyone here has made fantastic points which I fully support. I would like to add my 2 cents. I’m very hard on you, Fatshark, but I want your game to be as great as it can be. I want to give you money but I’m a consumer who wants content, not cosmetics. Below are issues I have with the game which will determine if I play the game for weeks and never get a DLC or play it for years and get every DLC. Bottom line, you have a game sale with me but I do not see longevity for this title. 100% real with you.

  • There are two charge ults. Kinda lazy imo.
  • The psyker’s right-click ability could have been something else, also feels lazy.
  • The respawning feels wack, totally unearned just a sympathy quick return. I think this would be a great opportunity to add something exciting. I do like the quickness, however. No one likes to sit around dead. I would like a ‘prison guard’ enemy that can kinda bully people off the revives or something that feels earned.
  • The banner bearer is the one special I actually liked in VT2 and he’s not there. I would love to have a Demagogue which buffs minion enemies (not specials and elites). Could easily attach marks to them which apply to those minions. Nothing that needs new animations, just stuff like percentage damage as corruption, damage reduction, illusionary enemies.
  • I would like more use of the background environment. I would have liked to have something like data terminals over scriptures, like a little side quest similar to Deep Rock. I saw some Chaos Totems which could have been a great opportunity to add a chaos artifact task, something like destroying the artifact/totem to clear a bar of corruption or deliver an artifact to a totem to gain something. I like getting occasional drops from enemies, that’d be a neat one.
  • The maps are a bit boring. There’s a lot of spawner doors in the level that in the future (this would obviously take time to implement) could led to alternate paths. Even something like a “red room” (literally an area filled with red lights) or some Chaos path could liven things up.
  • The occasional spice of managing potions and grenades that were peppered through the level gave spurts of excitement to VT and this game desperately needs some more excitement because its pace is far more subdued than VT. Which I do like, but there needs a few spikes, it’s already a little monotonous and I’ve only played a few hours.

I think the spirit you mean is three things, at least to me.

  1. The jolly banter is all but gone, the price of character customization. I’m surprised there’s as many voice options as there are, they did a great job. I’m just more of a fan of the Uber5.
  2. The map layout is very straight forward, no real divergent paths like the better maps of Vermintide 2.
  3. The color palate makes everything feel dull. There needs some vibrancy somewhere. I know it’s grimdark so it has to be gritty but it doesn’t need to be drab.

A stepback in a lot of ways compared to Vermintide 2

environment is samey and has very little variation, enemies often blend in with environment, ranged enemies can hide in opposite side of the map and hit you with precision. Maps are also quite dark hampering player’s vision further

melee combat the selling point of Vermintide 2 suffered here as well, none of it feels satisfying.

enemy design is also rather difficult to tell apart from distance, an example compare Vermintide 2 warpfire thrower with it’s massive backpack and green glowy bits compared to something like Darktide’s grenadier (same silhoutte as soldier, very tiny orange grenade bandolier)

ranged weapon focus also hampered the potential of bringing back the game from point of defeat, in Vermintide 2 a skilled player can dodge and cleave enemies while quickly switching to ranged weapon and killing any special spawn with a gun
in Darktide it is rather impossible, the moment you leave cover ranged enemies from far end of the map will deplete your shield quickly and your health bar.

custom character design sadly killed the chemistry between characters, it’s all just strangers wandering around occasionally commenting on ammobox or misplaced shot

BETA gripes: very little weapon variety
crashes delete your settings (and boy does it crash and disconnect)

*need more clear info on graphics settings and information. im getting an error on my resolution line in the INGAME settings (the launcher still says 1360x768, 720p) and doesn’t say what resolution i am in in the ingame settings, i put in another post. says some coding phrase or whatever… *

what directX version are we running? because if this game supports 11 and 12, running in 11 and not knowing would make a big difference in fps from 12. should be in our settings.

being able to chose our anti aliasing level without it being tied to the AMD FSR setting would be nice. Not sure exactly what AMD FSR entails, but being able to chose you antialiasing level seems important…

anistropic filtering levels are running at 16x always??? or???

triple buffering?? not sure if that’s still standard but usually it is a choice and a great combo for boosting fps with vertical sync in games struggling to get frames… which this one seems to be. This game does not feel smooth like vermintide 2, it seems like it was built using a different engine, one similar to fallout 76. which is nice, but the experience suffers a lot without optimized settings for 60+ fps at all times.

keybinds resetting is potentially some type of error with not writing to the profile settings file that needs to be fixed, i am not attempting to mess with settings and command prompt after searching for wherever the file is for saving my settings/keybinds.

Could we have short descriptions for the effects of the options in settings as well?? pop up tooltip or something?? and how much it will impact fps??

We need the ability to show a cursor so we can mouse over our own buffs and see a tooltip. Not sure when it became standard to show buff icons with absolutely no idea or info or way to get info on what they are doing exactly… need to know what each buff is doing.

The graphics and smoothness of this game need a lot of improvement right now, and hopefully its just a issue of optimizing which will be understood from this beta test. The graphics in the previews of this game look amazing, but in-game does not look quite the same(and suffers from low fps), but of course, could be a large issue with simply settings not working properly right now.

I agree with the mind blast taking a bit too long to cast. battle is too hectic to use it practically ever, and you have no defensive move to give you a chance to use it otherwise if you are in “mind blast only mode” should probably not just be like 3rd weapon/fighting mode that has one single not so great move… could really use a push like the force sword.

i’d like to see the force block ability block regular bullets. maybe not lazers, but bullets would make sense. maybe you can get a skill somehow that lets you block shots and send them back, or just deflect/reflect the shots with block up. maybe make it a gear buff or something that gives different types of buffs/selections to your block or certain attacks.

recommended level for missions would be nice as well.

ogryns grenade is very niche and does not do much, and it doesn’t really make sense, he just throws a metal box at the enemy, would like to see a different choice option maybe

Ogryn’s “grenade” is honestly perfectly in-character. The metal box is a box of grenades; the ogryn, being stupid, doesn’t understand that he’s supposed to take one grenade out, pull the pin, and throw it. He just chucks the whole box because he thinks “grenades are here, throw them for boom.” Functionally, they act as an emergency single target ranged attack; they absolutely have a niche there.

does it do good dmg?
havent played him yet
maybe have enmies jump/run away from it
as from their point of view it might be a live genade, it would only add to joke

It saved me from more than a few snipers during the beta, so it’s certainly strong enough to be useful.

Don’t know if it was a bug or not but one time I was doing a malice difficulty mission and everything was super dark. Basically like if the power grind of the complex was out and the only light was our flash light the green google light from enemy and fire. If it was a bug, you should make it something real because it was hell of fun and hard.
I liked how instead of pushing more enemies or stronger or harder to kill, the difficulty got increase in a new game mechanic. You should try to put more of these special feature, if there arent already some.

I’ll drop my feedback in here, rather then make another thread

Clocked up 9 hours over the weekend.
Only really played Ogryn, which I got up to level 10.

Overall my impressions were positive, this is a worth successor to the Vermintide series.
Melee feels meaty and the shootings pretty good to. The Ogryn ripper gun, on full auto against hordes, just made me feel so powerful. But it was also satisfying to headshot distant targets with the lasgun.
Game looks amazing. I love me a bit of 40k, so to be in the bowels of a hive city was great.
The music was a big suprise for me. In games, I’m generally a bit deaf when it comes to music, I’m too focused on everything else. But this game did make me notice it a few times. On the kill mission, when the boss jumps into the arena and the music kicks in, it was a real “holy ****” moment that got the blood pumping.

I played on medium settings with my Radeon Vega 64 card, definite eye candy, but not the smoothest ride. I know a lot of people were complaining about performance, but I can’t see that being fixed anytime soon, especially for launch. I wouldn’t say the Vermintide games were very well optimised.
Who ever decided not to give the beta mouse options, needs a stern talking to. I’m not sure how many people played the beta with controllers on PC, but I’d put good money on them being in the minority!
Also, where the hell are the scoreboards? Battlefield 2042 did this and it was NOT popular. Worse case scenario, just let me see how many ranged/melee kills I got.

One major concern for me, which I’m sure won’t bother anyone new to the series, is the choice of classes over characters. The characters in Vermintide had so much personality, their banter never got old.
Yes, the classes in Darktide talk to each other, but it doesn’t feel as special. We’ll never hear any more stories about cousin Okri.

I’m pretty sure this game will be a buy for me, I’ve been a big fan of the Vermintide series. But, I will be waiting on reviews to see what the launch state is like.
Also very curious about what the end game will be like with class and weapon varieties.

Hi  adding my own feedback here as well.

  • Overall the game was an absolute BLAST and I already preordered the imperial edition. Will be sinking 100s of hours into the game. Really wanted to get the chainsword but the weeklies reset before I could finish them and accrue the currency yesterday :frowning: will have to do it in 1.0.
  • PLEASE ADD MOUSE SENSITIVITY SETTINGS!!
  • Please allow to toggle ADS as well as crouch and sprint.
  • Enemy AI is a little cracked sometimes in terms of shooting through stairs or grates that nobody can reasonably see through (to the point where it’s 1-way - we can’t really shoot back at them). So maybe code stairs and grates as opaque as far as the AI is concerned. Some really frustrating deaths from this.
  • Had some issues getting “caught” on ladders during intense moments with no room for error, again resulting in some frustrating deaths.
  • Had one instance of a rescue respawn that was just way too far - on 3-star difficulty. Had to fight through for like 20 minutes to even get close to the rescue, and then the AI director threw a legit health bar boss at us, which felt really unfair. We never stood a chance.
  • Was playing as sharpshooter and the weapon switching felt really sluggish sometimes - like I was stuck in an animation for shooting or reloading. I’d be trying to switch to my sword because ghouls are getting in my face and instead my guy would just be fiddling with his gun in really frustrating ways. In a few cases it felt like the button press to switch weapons didn’t even register. Again - some super frustrating deaths.

That wasnt a bug but a difficulty modifier. There will be a couple of them.

doesn’t mean its not garbage

Loving the game, there are bugs but its a beta! Quick response time with the very few issues ive had and its been fun already.

It was quite useful during the closed beta. If you’re talking about it now in the prerelease, then I don’t know what to tell you; I haven’t used it myself.

My thoughts on Darktide so far:

  • Shooting enemies’ aim is way too good: even under supression they keep hitting you with almost
every shot (at least 8 out of 10)
  • Snipers shoot too fast for their power and aim, also they can shoot if any part of them is visible (our team got viped because 1 sniper shot us from the top of his head)
  • Trappers are OP: absolutely unseeable from behind a horde they just grab you and team can do almost nothing to save you until they clear most of enemies (unless Ogryn), comparing to them hounds and mutants at least not leave you incapacitated if team do anything to them
  • In ~80% runs on 3 dificulty I met 0 random bosses and there are some runs where there were 2 random bosses, it is at least strange, especially when some bosses are much stronger then others (Beast of Nurgle can kill half of the team while Plague Ogryn in the same run is just a big punch bag for us) and recieving nothing in reward after killing a boss feels bad (in Vermintide 2 we at least get loot dice)
  • Receiving loot after a mission is too rare occasion, and every time I got something it was white melee weapon that is much worse than my current weapon. Upd.: got green knife after mission, but still worse then my knife
  • Comparing to Vermintide 2, melee weapons feel much less effective: cutting through 1-3 plagued hobos while playing Ogryn feels way too bad (used different weapons, got almost same result)
  • Mutant-special is recovering too fast: throwing away teammate and charging again in just a moment
  • It is really good that armoured enemies have armour on different places, unlike it was in Vermintide (armoured everything except head)
  • Backstories in character creation are… strange in some variants, hope they will be adapted and also will have any impact at dialogues or something
  • I hope we will be able to change character’s appearance after creation
  • Also hope that each class will have different careers available, like in Vermintide 2 or something like that
  • Missions with reduced visibility should have less shooting enemies and more armoured melee enemies
  • It is impossible to understand which barrel will just explode and which will set everything aflame
    Update:
  • OK, using Ogryn’s shield+mace made most of my bad thoughts on enemies less… impactful, I guess. Anyway, with it game is much easier
  • Staggering a bomber that is about to throw a grenade is really fun, because he drops it near him

I have an important feedback which is neither gameplay nor tech related, simply UX !

Add options and quit game to the login menu (the one with the big artwork that connects you when you press space, before character selection).

We currently have to alt+f4 if we can’t connect and we can’t adjust at least sound/graphics from this screen which might end up problematic (let’s say you stream, launch the game and sound is awfully loud for a reason… or any other case).
