Issue Description (Required):
The game refuses to use more than 5.5gb vram. I have 8GB vram available, but game is stuck with only 5540mb or something around that value while in a match, forcing me to use Low texture details. Anything higher causes major stuttering.
Attempted Solutions (Optional):
Full reinstallation of operating system. I even changed motherboard and PSU yesterday so was hopeful maybe that could fix the issue but no help. No overclocking on any parts, bios is latest version as well as all drivers. No application running in the background other than Steam. All overlays are disabled, such as Steam overlay, GPU overlay etc. to ensure nothing is interfering. I had to have MSI Afterburner open to monitor vram usage but issue is the same even when MSI Afterburner is turned off.
Platform (Required):
PC - Steam
[PC] PC Specifications (Optional):
MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus Motherboard
AMD Ryzen 5600 CPU
XFX RX 7600 Quik 308 GPU
2x16gb 3200mhz CL16 Ram.
Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1tb nvme (only for games)
240gb SSD (for OS)
MSI MAG A850GL 850W PSU
Just played another round to take a screenshot and this time didn’t go above 5.3gb. Funny thing is ram also doesn’t exceed 16gb although I have 32gb of ram. I think the game doesn’t detect my system specs and limits itself wrong.
I don’t think the RAM usage is the problem here, I have the same card as you and it runs bad without any sort of tweaks, now it runs acceptable on mostly Medium settings with some tweaking.
Look around and find the AMD tweaks topic on this forum from Vizra, do those tweaks and make sure to install the latest Beta from AMD too, 25.6.2, as it seems to have helped. After that it should run quite well, just make sure you set certain settings to low or off, put your worker threads to 6 (to match physical core count).
Edit: I didn’t make a comparison yet so I don’t know if this is placebo, but played two games so far and the only stutter I had was when monstrosities spawned or clear scene transitions (elevators for example.) Other than that it was smooth sailing. FPS didn’t jump up or anything, but frame pacing is noticably better.
Edit2: I believe the difference is placebo. Reset all config files to original states and there is pretty much no difference. I still have my money on game not reserving all available vram and running out of vram as a result. I cannot believe the game uses pretty much the same amount whether low, medium or high texture detail is selected.
Right now all settings are on lowest and I do have the latest driver but that driver affects 9070 users. I will look into optimizations though. Right now trying Medium texture details (with everything else as low as possible) and Emperor help me the constant heavy stutters that are indication of vram bottleneck are horrible to deal with. I will check the optimizations and let you know how it goes.
Yes the cause is very hard to pinpoint, I can have full missions with plenty of spawns and things happening without many issues, but I can also get more relaxed missions that eventually start stuttering. This makes me think something is broken and it’s not just a hardware issue for us.
I can send you the links for all 3 discussions, I always did them all 3 and got decent results, playable, but not perfect, definitely better than running the game as it is. They’re all here on this side of the forum though. Good luck, and remember that any update even a hotfix might revert those changes, so if the game runs bad after em, make sure to double check they’re not reverted.
I really didn’t want to resurrect this topic, but recently switched to Linux (Bazzite) which fixed all stutter issues for me. Even the stutters you get when you enter cosmetics shop, or when you get an achievement with a cosmetic reward no longer happen. It is smooth sailing from start to finish.
It is probably because proton downloads pre-cached shaders along with the game or something like that. I can play the game at High texture details, lighting and global illumination now with zero stutters. I hope this helps someone at some point.
