Future classes should be like Psyker and Ogryn

I’ve been off an on with Darktide for a long while and recently started binging the newest content, lv30 all classes and I hover in the 20s in Havoc. This is my personal thoughts but I don’t think the classes present interesting new gameplay experiences, excluding Psyker and Ogryn, who are both in my opinion the gold standard in moment-to-moment gameplay variety.

I was reading through recent reviews that put into words my feelings, classes in Vermintide II felt unique, whereas in Darktide, excluding blitzes, some of the classes are too similar imo. Veteran Arbitrator and Hive-Scum are a key example in my experience, although Scum is more interesting due to the stimm and toxin mechanic.

Please consider making future classes more unique, gameplay and visually. I don’t know if you have a restriction on xenos classes or a mechanicus class but as a player, variety is something I want to see much more of. The fact that only a Psyker and Orgyn could believably use their class exclusive weapons could be a good baseline, no reason a Veteran couldn’t use dual handguns for example.

I don’t think the issue is so much that a Veteran couldn’t use dual handguns, it’s that the Veteran largely uses weapons that can be found in basic tabletop 40k Guard infantry squads, something they’d actually be familiar with from their training and battlefield experience.

This can include lasguns, autopistols, plasma weapons, bolters, and power swords, but akimbo pistols of any kind aren’t really something the Guard issues or trains on or has represented in tabletop rules/art/miniatures with the couple exceptions (a special HQ commander and elite stormtrooper Aquilons) wielding advanced Hot Shot/Archaeotech pistols that aren’t featured in Darktide.

Admech could be an example of that (in the sense of weapons that outright wouldn’t be accessible to other classes for lore reason)

As they could have it be use no-shared weapons (though that also meaning that like the Ogryn, it would be slower at getting weapons), Admech weapons being kept in the hands of trusted personnel only. Unless they plan on having some shared weapons (at a minimum, Power Swords, Plasma…)

Sister could see a similar thing with the Hallowed weapons, though lorewise they’re just specific types of Power weapons, but here maybe turning them into Pseudo-Force weapons which interact with a Faith system perhaps.
