Feedback after 362 hours

I still like the game a lot. It is the most fun combat in any coop game. However, some problems become more and more glaring, the longer you play. The main problem this game has, is that it cascades small annoyances, which by itself aren’t too bad, but which all add up. They pretty much amplify each other, as each of them could be easily ignored, if everything else was fine and streamlined. I will go over the worst ones.

First of all, it starts with the loading times and the amount of times you are forced to go through loading times. It is horrible. This becomes super annoying, especially when you are being forced back onto the Mourning Star for absolutely no valid reason. I got the game on an m2 SSD and running on a 13600k and loading times are still way too high.

The next thing, which did not bother me too much in the beginning, is the way you handly cosmetics. I do spend cash on cosmetics and I also did in Darktide. In League of Legends for example, I spent a lot more than 100€. However, in Darktide you do everything related to cosmetics pretty much wrong. First of all, the balance between bought cosmetics and cosmetics gained ingame, is still absolutely horrible. The question that comes to my mind is “are you out of your mind”? You mostly offer rags ingame and most cool outfits have to be bought with cash. This feels super wrong. Cool cosmetics is what keeps people come back and play, if they can farm them. So obviously, most of the cool cosmetics needs to be farmable and only a fraction should be for real cash.

Seriously, whoever is doing your shop, either has no idea (about gameplay and psychology), or is actively and purposely sabotaging your game. It is completely idiotic, to a point that is hard to comprehend.

Also the prices are totally off. Yes, i did pay more than 20€ for some LoL skins, but that is a PvP game where you constantly see your skin and where your opponent sees it, when you slap him around. I would never ever spend this much for a skin in a coop game. It just doesn’t make sense.

Also your attempts to force us to see the cosmetics, appear super pathetic. Honestly, i’m sorry to say this, but I would fire the person responsible. This is pure sabotage and it is so obvious, that i wonder if the person in charge wants to ruin your steam rating on purpose.

On top, you force people into the Mourning Star and through the loading screen, just to show off the skins. You pause the game after the match, so we stare at the skins while waiting for the scores. Even the loading screen before a match, has the sole purpose of showing the skins. I honestly can’t even describe how pathetic this appears, after 360 hours and it gets worse and worse. This is not professional, it is super primitive and dragging the game down, and it becomes worse, the longer you play.

So unless you can magically remove all loading times, we need to be able to start matches without entering the mourning star, right from character select. We need to have shops in the Psykarium (can be via menu, or remove the loading screen and add the Psykarium to the Mourning Star) and we need to be able to start matches from the Psykarium and we need to get into the Psykarium, without going to the Mourning Star first (unless you merge them).

When we are in a high level lobby with obvious newb players, we need to be able to start matchmaking again, without being forced into the Mourning Star loading screen again, unless of course, you prefer that we stop queuing, if we don’t want to play high difficulties with new low level players. And after a match, we need a button that allows us to start matchmaking without going back to the Mourning Star, too.

It would be super nice, to be able to switch character without loading screen, or at least allow us to select another character in the matchmaking lobby. I also want to see the team’s loadout in the lobby, obviously.

One more thing that could realy need some improvement is the character frames. Overall it isn’t bad, but you could get much more out of it, if you improve on each line of frames in a more consistent manner. For example a frame for killing X enemies of a certain type, could get one more skull per 1million skills and a sort of mark for every 100k kills. Kind of bragging rights, which are easy to understand and which are an incentive to keep the grind up.

As i mentioned, there desperately need to be more outfits that can be obtained by playing and i do not mean rags (which is kind of embarassing imho). If you lower the prices, I would also buy more cosmetics. However not at those utterly pointless prices.

I realy hope you improve on those points. I’m fine with the crafting system and pretty much everything, but those annoyances realy drag the game down. Plus they add up and cause you to be much more picky. I wouldn’t be surprised, if a lot less people would complain about the crafting system and weapon RNG, if you would have had those points correct, right from the beginning.

One last thing i would like to mention is, that at first i thought, skipping the score board is a good thing, as it improves team work. However, I think i was wrong. I still try to get as many kills as possible. Even my girlfriend, who rarely has top scores, said she would like to see her performance, to see how she did and if she improves. I think the Vermintide scoreboard was pretty good. I would think about adding it back and maybe improving on it a bit, by adding some extre team based stats.

Yeah… no.
People complain about the crafting system because it is bad.

I am pretty sure that shorter loading times and more free skins would not really change anything about the abysmal chances of you being able to actually play with the items you would like to use.

@sunToxx

Alot of the loading delays can be resolved with mods. But I don’t want to use mods and worry about them causing instability or not work with every game update.

The mission end does add unnecessary delay to get back to base.

Running between armory, crafting, mission terminal etc. OK I get it adds to atmosphere you’re on a spaceship. But add a quick menu as only so many times running between things gets dry.

I agree should be able to see weapon loadouts of other team players so that you can switch to provide coverage of range and horde/single target damage mix. Not everyone will speak same language or respond in chat if asked.

It would make sense to be able to switch class within the mission lobby too for same reason as above. As match making does not force even mix of classes so end up being too one sided with same classes. To be able to balance a team.

But definitely the mission end delay is so annoying, some people even quit when everyone does down and lose dockets/materials on purpose just to skip this loading of showing dead players on ground, and static continue screen whilst you’re hammering spacebar to get past it.

Want to be quick in and out of missions, queue next one.

@Flawless not the entitled ones, for sure. But still many. I find the whining about the crafting system utterly pathetic. With a bit of patience and knowing what you do, you can get what you want and you can get something close to it rather easily. Which leaves an incentive to grind some more. The crafting system is fine as is and the mimimi about it is a joke that makes me doubt the mental health of people. Maybe some people should realize, that this is a game and not a substitute for a life. However, the feedback was to the developers anyway. But thanks for your opinion.

Hundreds of hours per class is probably more than „a bit of patience“ that is needed in order to get close to what you want.
And „knowing what you do“ is such a miniscule aspect of the itemization system with such a miniscule impact that it is effectively irrelevant.

Yes. All the people who quit the game over it are wrong.
Everyone who reasonably explains the many problems with the system, is wrong.

Dude…
Are you okay?
Just how delusional are you?

Issues with the crafting system have been by far the most talked about topic on this forum, pretty much since release.
The community almost unanimously agrees that there are a bunch of issues with it.
But i am sure you are right. They all have mental health issues. Your opinion is the only valid one and actually, everything is completely fine…

you can win the lottery if you just keep playing!

And no, you can’t just keep adding higher difficulty levels, because that spreads out the player base too much.

More like 100 to 200k.
Unless your standard is pretty low.

Who doesn’t want T4 blessings?
Good luck getting one of the two right perks and blessings in T4 on the same item.

Not sure what you mean by “mission tokens” but i assume you mean ordo dockets (the golden coins).
Rare (blue) weapons from the armory exchange almost always have t1 or t2 blessings.
Nobody on lvl 30 really uses any of those (except for t2 exclusives).

So instead, SOME people get the perfect weapon (through luck) while others do not.
Which means that SOME people will perform better than others, just because they got more lucky.

How about just making perfect weapons reasonably obtainable and balancing the top difficulties around that?

“this is not an mmo” means absolutely nothing and has nothing to do with how accessible gear should be.
Just like “this is a mobile game” does not mean that it MUST be pay to win, and contain every psychological trick in the book.

A lot of people quit the game because of how unlikely it is that they will ever get a top weapon. Some people just get a top weapon right away and then have nothing left to do in that regard.
The current crafting system does not bring any reasonable amount of player retention, but drives many away instead.

Nobody is asking to get maxed weapons thrown at them. This bs fallacy has been repeated too many times by the ignorant few who claim that the crafting system is fine.
People are asking for a way to actually work towards a perfect weapon, which is something that the game does not currently offer and which means that as soon as you have a reasonably good weapon, you have no incentive to interact with the crafting system at all because 99.9% of your ressource input will be wasted at that point.

Wrong.
In a system that is a bottomless pit of bad RNG, there is absolutely no incentive to keep playing for loot, once you have decent items.
Let’s watch a player’s desire to keep playing for a better weapon, after wasting the ressources of a month+ worth of farming, just to get a bunch of garbage weapons out of it.

Even on a weapon with a small blessing pool, getting one right perk and one right blessing (on any tier) is about a 1 in 25 chance at best.
If the blessing pool is larger, it is much worse.
If you want T4 only, MUCH worse than that.

I think it would be reasonable assume that the chance to randomly get a perk on a reroll, is the same as the chance to randomly get the perk from consecration.

Have you ever rerolled a perk on a weapon?
Hopefully you used the “reroll until rarity” mod, because manually clicking a button for an hour is too annoying for some people (conveniently, the mod also counts the number of rolls for you).
Even on high modifier items (370+) it usually takes hundreds of rolls until the desired T4 perk appears. Sometimes it reaches the 1000+ mark.
But this is completely fine, right?

Just get a few million dockets to buy a few thousand base items so that you get a few hundred with good base stats.
Then just go ahead and upgrade them all to purple, hoping that at least one of them gets the T4 perk you want.
And when that happens, you upgrade the weapon to orange and both blessings are trash.

Woopie. So much fun.
I bet most people can not wait to throw mats worth months of farming at this bottomless pit that is basically guaranteed to crap in your face.
So much player retention…

But sure, everyone except you (and about 10 other people) is certainly wrong about this.
lol

(consider that even the stance
“i dislike the locks and would like the ability to upgrade modifiers as well as the option to unlock specific blessings of choice without RNG, but i am fine with everything else”
could be counted as “i dislike certain parts but i like it overall”
So the reality is probably pretty close to 90% of the voters wanting substantial changes like the three i just mentioned.)

Since there are some exceptions (namely the blessings that only exist at T4)… in general, is the experience significantly diminished by T3 perks/blessings (or T2, for some blessings)?

If you’re seeking a perfect weapon, the current system cannot deliver in a meaningful way, no doubt about it, and I realise that some of the player base does seek a perfect weapon. I haven’t read through all of this thread, but I’m curious to know where “good enough to satisfy my requirements” lies for players. Granted, if your requirement is Blazing Spirit, you’re out of luck

When you talk about balancing around the perfect weapon, are you thinking along the lines of a perfect weapon (550 rating) being expected to play the highest difficulty, or being recommended for a more comfortable experience with something approaching perfect (for arguments sake, let’s just say 500, the specific number isn’t really important) being the expected minimum

Well, as it appears, almost the entire playerbase is made up of those “entitled kiddies without a life”.
And those “kiddies” seem to come in all kinds of adult ages.

I mean…
You said this (before later deleting it):

You said “rare weapons”, which sounds like you are talking about a single type of quality. Aside from that, “rare” quality is blue in basically all the games.
The armoury only sells blue/rare weapons with blessings.
Melk sells purple and orange weapons with blessings.

You also said “mission tokens”, not “contract/weekly tokens”.
There is only one type of tokens that you get from missions and that can be used to buy weapons, which is ordo dockets (which you spend at the armoury).

So it was really not obvious at all, that you actually meant “purple and orange” instead of “rare”, and that you meant “contract/weekly tokens” instead of “mission tokens”

So if you mean that people can easily just buy blessings from melk…
It is again purely rng and if you want a specific blessing, you can expect to be checking the store for months and months.
There are plenty of people who have been waiting for months, to see their first T4 power cycler blessing show up (or are still waiting).

Wow. Such a good argument.
You really invalidated my points there.

Should i go out of my way and tab out of the page as soon as i stop reading, so that people like you can not make fun of me on the internet for how much time i apparently spend on the forum?
Maybe i should also close my game every time i take a break or stop playing, so that some random person on the internet who tries to make an argument based on my “time played” can get a more accurate reading as well.

So when you voice your criticism, it is reasonable.
When i (or the 95% of the remaining playerbase with the same criticism do it), it is harrassment.
Got it.

I am glad that you can enjoy this fantastic game that only lost 95% of its playerbase within the first month after release.

They would be probably around 80% score with this crafting system (which would make you 20% of the playerbase), if they did the rest right. Discussion ends here. Dont waste your time typing, setting ignore now.

Oh sure.
Almost everyone who dislikes the crafting system only does so, because loading times are too long and because you do not like the penances.

I will just believe your completely made up statistic that is based on absolutely nothing.
Fixing these things will certainly remove all issues that exist with the crafting system.
Got it.

Yes you can.

Payday 2 added 2 difficulties as far as I know, didn’t suffer at all.

Vermintide 2 added Cataclysm difficulty in its 3rd expansion.

So most likely they will add 6th difficulty in Darktide as well.

i would love game to be fixed so that netcode is not playing against you and overal ux to be polished:

  • bartering a weapon would not rewind list to the top
  • or inability to remember sorting choices
  • or inability to have favorite weapons and actual trash stash
  • why i cannot barter weapon from hadron screen?
  • being able to display more items from inventory
  • why that guy stands on corner and i always bump i to him?

all stupid little things can be fixed with mods, but if mod authors can fix ux, why fs cannot?

this game is giving ux of 1000 cuts, still gameplay is solid but small things just are annoyances

I think it would make aense to just cut the firtst difficulty grom the game and tune up Damnation.

I feel like the major jumps in difficulty was 2 → 3 and 3 → 4.

Personally I don’t mind Sedition and Uprising, however, I would say reduce them to 1 map per difficulty per hour, so people can still use them to farm “complete x missions”.

Payday 2 has 6 difficulties as well, however, you can choose what to play. Personally I think, they have to rework the mission board first if they would add 6th difficulty.
