lmao no, it’s just a basic balance issue. You wouldn’t see everyone using the meta weapon if it wasn’t very obviously (all caps) meta. Also reread my post, added some edits.
It boggles me a bit, in fairness, that you don’t understand the value of mobility as someone that’s claimed to clear aurics with every weapon known to zealot.
Look all I’m saying is that you can just not use the dueling sword. Its not that big of a deal, you can play with people who also don’t use the dueling sword if you really want. It ultimately doesn’t matter or effect your gameplay if other people use a good weapon.
I personally wouldn’t complain about a OP weapon and ultimately don’t really like how much attention is being brought to it. There will always be something that is the best in the game, the real problem is when most weapons just aren’t fun to use. If more weapons were fun to use then people would use the dueling sword less.
People advocating to nerf the best things, just end up slowly making games bad. This is more of a issue in PvP games but it also makes me worried in PvE games. I mean look at rainbow 6, something is OP, people complain that its OP, its nerfed, another thing turns out to be OP, and repeat. Continue this cycle for 10 years and you end up in the current state of every weapon in the game feeling awful to use. We already have a pretty big graveyard of over nerfed weapons in dark tide, why are we trying to pile more onto it?
Cool. See the first two posts in the thread, because hundreds of people feel otherwise. They’re not MY words.
This is a very naive take /shrug.
VT2 had several big balance patches to get to its current state (which is excellent) and a bunch of outliers needed toning down. Just shocks me the same studio is taking so long on this one.
People shouldn’t be forced to play private games to escape someone could trivialize games cause devs don’t want to work on the balance.
Just as you can’t balance difficulty relying on the idea that everyone should play premade, for the same reason you can’t leave broken things and say “just play premade”.
Sure. But gap is what matters and balanance in a neverending process, there never will be a moment of “game is perfectly balanced” in any game. Devs must just work on it.
There were gazzilions of great ideas about almost anything. If FS just implemented them fast enough game would be 10 times better. Like i personaly mentioned ogryn need this Bardin Slayer talent form V2 in every ogryn rework thread.
It was obvious to have this for that slab of meat from the start. How much time it took for them to add it?
The mere existence of a weapon that outclasses every other weapon shouldn’t exist. It’s like you play rocket league and every car you drive has the same baseline but then ONE of the cars has extra boost and higher top end speed. What do you think the overall best choice is? Obviously the car with the extra boost and higher top end speed AKA DUELING SWORD.
Of course you could “just not use it” but then you’ll be presented with the conundrum of being forced to watch at least 50% of the people you play with use dueling swords and THINK they’re actually good for using an extremely overtuned weapon. Solution? Give it back to Psykers and let’s not talk about this again. Simple.
To even say this displays an extreme lack of understanding of the basics of not just game development:
Balance is a fundamental aspect of all games, which is why even single player games get nerfs and buffs while supported. Coop / PvP / videogame / cards / boardgames none of that even has anything to do with it.
All changes cost time & money, each one risking more bugs & other issues
If the game has 1000 variables and 2 are overperforming, here are your choices:
Nerf the 2 → Costs 2 changes total
Buff the other 998 → Costs 500x more time & money than #1, risking 500x more problems (and I’ll let you imagine how happy the community is waiting for 1-2 years with no content when the full dev team is busy endlessly buffing, all just to wind up in the same place those 2 nerfs would’ve done)
Do nothing → Costs nothing, but then as time goes on the meta will stagnate, the community will grow bored & leave, the game dies
It’s literally this simple. So adjusting the outliers (nerf what’s OP, buff the stuff that sucks) is simply the most basic of business decisions.
I dont even use the dueling sword, I use relic blade and force sword because I find them more fun. I just want more weapons to actually be fun.
Honestly dueling sword isn’t even the best weapon for psyker, obscurus force sword kills crushers about as fast and has better crowd control. And relic blade also works pretty good with the right combos though is probably worse then dueling sword. Dueling sword only is completely stand out on veteran and that’s really just because the power sword still sucks.
I mean really I have never seen anyone complain about this. Idk I guess people only find easy things OP.
Your opinion on the balance of the two weapons seems to have drifted a bit over the course of the thread.
The reason DS is >>>> relic blade is its mobility (only weapon to share ‘ninja’ profile with the combat knife with a much higher top-end move speed vs. other weapons and slightly better acceleration, having 5 dodges, and having high dodge distance), the fact that it works superbly well against literally every target, and the simplicity of use of its attack chains and special.
The mobility alone makes it a massive outlier in a game where mobility = survivability, but then you pile on one or two-shotting and interrupting everything up to crushers with absolute ease and you have a monster. No, the force sword doesn’t compete with that on Psyker. The force sword is good, and fun, but it doesn’t compete with that whole package - the dueling sword remains alone in its own category atop every tier list.
I happen to think the Relic Blade is a great, well designed weapon. It is much slower, both marks have complicated attack chains, managing power-up and heat adds challenge, but it trucks things and has outstanding reach. You just need to be much, much more careful with your footwork as you can’t just outrun things to reposition like the dueling sword.
Right now I’d argue most weapons you think are ‘unfun’ are actually fun and enjoyable to many (I’m sure you think the chain weapons aren’t fun; I think they’re a joy to play). The weapon balance across 'tide games tends to be quite good over time, with the occasional outlier getting brought back inline - been through several BBB’s or equivalents. It’s about time the dueling sword got brought back to earth - it is a ridiculous outlier in current state.
I never notice the relic blade having worse mobility. The dodge is a bit worse but if you just play with that in mind its not that big of a deal, and the sprint speed is entirely offset by just taking a bolt pistol.
The chain weapons are okay, but the heavy eviscerator is just a downgrade to the relic blade and the assault just feels limp. The chain axes are somehow just worse, Im not sure why you would ever take a chain axe over a rashad.
You can use them but they just don’t meet that fantasy that you would expect, especially the heavy eviscerator. The heavy eviscerator should be one of the highest damage weapons in the game, tabletop wise they consistently chop through space marines like butter, and here they feel like a pool noodle in comparison. They only deal damage to armor when you use the powered up attack and that is practically suicide 99% of the time.
None of the chain weapons are top tier, but the Q was ‘are they fun’. They happen to have a niche Havoc benefit tearing through yellow shields and boss health bars significantly faster than most weapons, in addition to being fun. Not everything is good at everything, y’know.
Sure, I wouldn’t mind if they got buffs, but they’re fun, effective, and require skill to use.
Relic blade has worse mobility than literally all of the chain weapons.
… and back on topic, Dueling Sword has outstandingly better mobility than all of the above.
Can I recommend you watch the first video in this thread? It’s by a guy who is using game files and standardized tests to evaluate weapons, not feelings and opinions. It’s short. You don’t need to work hard to confirm it - inspecting a weapon’s mobility stat will give you the key ranges governing sprinting and dodges. The sprint speed on dueling sword and combat knife is massively higher than other weapons, and that’s before we talk dodge profile.
