Expeditions lack purpose

Beside some mid cosmetics unlocks, the game mode offers very little.

Fatshark missed the opportunity to:

1.let players find actual weapons they could use on the field(but somehow you could exchange scraps for new throwables, but not something like a gun you could keep using…)

2.let players get some new currency to finally get the full 100% stat

3. let players get something similar to VT2’s twitch mode(but put that on a random channel that nobody watches so the game just randomly picks an option)

4.actually have a chaoswastes-like mode(for example, having to actually fight their way deeper into the hive city, through multiple different randomized biomes)

5. combine 3. and 4.

There are sooooooooooooooo many things fatshark could have done that was already done in VT2 that could make Expeditions actually fun, for example randomized boons(think of it as topside wastelander boosters that gets cleared out of your system alongside rads and rad stimms when you’re done), weapon swaps(or even let players carry an additional weapon) with randomized blessings(or even normally impossible blessings that would have been OP in the normal modes) that naturally would also be confiscated after extraction + starting players out with grey gear because they had to be smuggled out of the hive city into the area(too much flak/warp shenanigans even for Masouzi)…etc.

As it is right now, Expeditions is getting stale already after tossing around some of the new toys.

You are right about how it could be improved, I suggested adding some of the more interesting perks from Mortis Trials as something you can pick up.

But even without this stuff, having played some more, expeditions is genuinely fun asf. Most people playing this game long term are doing it for Darktides gameplay, not unlocks, and this mode adds a new dimension to that with the open map and chaotic nature and another aspect to team play.

The final mission of expeditions has 5 parts to it instead of the usual 3 giving a 35 minute timer total showing they can make the missions longer, so it wouldnt be hard for them to make expeditions more like chaos wastes, just toss in some mortis trials perks and weapon pickups and extend the number of sections to 5-7

If they were to add unlocks the thing I would like to see most is a new resource you can get from this mode that lets you customise your weapon, in particular the scopes on your weapons. It just seems like a natural thing to do for this mode since long range shooting actually matters here unlike the other modes, being able to change your scope matters 10x more than the other modes here.

by that do you mean people running off doing their own thing(which is not always bad but it is bad in pubs more often than not) or getting lost on the map engaging patrols instead of doing POIs?

they certainly added those things from helldivers 2 but I don’t think that’s good for gameplay

Is that really any different from the usual game mode…? I can’t say I have noticed much difference in the number of headless chickens and knife zealots getting themselves killed, most of the games I have been in people actually use the navigation tools and follow whoever picks the next POI to go to, and thats now when the game mode is brand new, after a few weeks people will have gotten a lot better

well typically maps are linear so they can’t go too far off to the side.

they can get lost further to the side in the new mode, it’s a new dimension of retardation

do people even know they can pull up the auspex? (also there’s the bug that make it disappear)

lack of proper tutorial also didn’t help

Yes, absolutely. The vanilla maps are of tunnel type, it’s not obvious at first, but it is in fact, much less opportunities for you to go completely different direction and get lost there. In this mode people constantly get lost, or left behind, unless somebody takes role of a leader and literally constantly spams location tags. And if you got on a team where nobody really knows what to do (I’m among those btw, guilty) - you are doomed.
