Oh yeah, I just love being limited to using a single weapon. A weapon that, aside from being able to block shots, has very little use, forces you to rely on your teammates to actually kill something in melee and that still won’t protect you from getting hit from behind.
As for Ripper, I won’t argue much. I don’t like it but maybe it’s just not my kind of gun. If you make it work then cool.
With the right blessings and feats the shield can do respectable damage but it will be lower than pretty much any other weapon. That’s the point though is that its defensive, if it did as much damage as the power maul for example there would be no reason to use the power maul. The shield honestly should be a default weapon for the ogryn. You should be able to use a shield with all the melee weapons. They all are one handed.
That being said, there are other options but I consider the only other option to be the rumbler. Knocking everyone down from range is just as effective. I would never take the rumbler and the shield together as there is no point of the shield if u have the rumbler.
My pet peeve with the bayonet attack is that its the only single target melee he throws with 2 hands and its pathetic. Kinda rolls into the rest of his unimpactful design, though a hound eating a Kickback round straight to the mouth is up there too. Let me kill things.
He could use come tuning for sure but it easily clears heresy as all other classes really.
Sometimes you do get stuck in overwhelming fire but your team should help with that.
Only thing is one of the two blessing giving back toughness on your weapon is almost mandatory.
Mango, have you had much luck with ranged toughness blessings? Like the constant fire one, or the born in blood on a ripper? Seemed like the constant fire one didn’t work, and born in blood was so low as to be 2% on kill, only up close, and would at best get toughness regen started.
Not on the ranged weapons no I have not.
I tend to use the rumbler in heresy. It brings just so much utility and as has been mentionned can be used while only exposing yourelf out of cover quickly if need be.
I like the MKII too but stubber is just so good. Just got a nice 379 dual machine gun I began playing with on Malice on scripture runs … but it’s still green so no blessings.
I have seen on the grenade launcher the +6-10% toughness on elite kill but that does not seem very useful really when your toughness tends to evaporate in a second when exposed to fire and not willing to close the gap to get the toughness regen going with your melee weapon.
I think Ogryn and Psyker are the two classes in urgent need of polish and love but we’ll see what they do when they catch up with the bits and pieces of their release on fire. Wait and see !
Well here we are again.
It’s always such a pleasure.
Remember when I tried to help you twice?
Oh how you fought and fought.
Except I wasn’t fighting.
Under the circumstances I’ve been shockingly nice.
You want your nerfs? Take them.
That’s not what I want.
I used to try to help but now I only want these threads gone.
The blessings on rumbler are pretty crappy and irrelevant (oddly Adhesive is handy), but you just made the case against the Stubber (and Ripper) :exposure . I don’t see any utility other than maybe picking off what’s left behind from a good veteran with a lasgun (or autogun zealot in a pinch). If you don’t have a good vet it falls further behind the utility a Rumber or even GGauntlet can bring.
Furthermore I’m seeing a lot more runs without a vet. Flamer zealots (they do seem to love it oh so much) and psykers, leaving no viable long range option. The Rumber and GG will fill this gap in a pinch, the Stubber and Ripper will struggle to do so. It’s the another reason I prefer the braced autogun on zealot unless in a premade.
A couple of anecdotes (take them as such, heresy):
In one match yesterday, a stubber ogryn seemed to love it to the point of not even pulling out his melee to help clear and stagger stuff. I could tell he wasn’t hitting anything at range either and when I asked him to help in melee “chill dude, it’s a pug”; I could tell we were not going to do well. 5 mins later: cascade failure, predictable wipe.
In a match earlier today, another ogryn similar story but did melee when close. Every time he pulled out Stubber though, took a beating and had to retreat. Nice guy and a team player so I suggested he try the Rumbler or GGauntlet.
Bumped into him 2 rounds later and he was using the gauntlet paired w shield and was doing a lot better and enjoying himself more, shoot’n’scoot vs stuff shootign at him and special explody punches for crushers and bulwarks.
If you enjoy unfair struggle then that’s fine, but you don’t need to sound like an arrogant t*at to people who don’t. You gave me some good advice on playing ogryn and it helped, but enemy shooters are OP, period, and you’re just trying to flaunt your skill - or just lying, at this point I wouldn’t be surprise if you’re just pretending for the sake of looking good. This is the last time I’m dignifying you with a response, go and stew in your arrogant sauce.
This is now the fourth or fifth topic he’s made about riflemen, specifically complaining about playing ogryn. At a certain point it starts getting a little silly. Even beyond that, my post was a joke because my very first thought when I saw the topic was “Well here we are again.” hence being stupid and doing the lyrics.
Zero reason for him to get that hostile about it. Like I said elsewhere, I’ve been trying to help him but he gets extremely hostile to any perceived slight.
Even tried commenting on it being nice when he was taking advice the short time he wasn’t being hostile but got zero response. This is the very next interaction I’ve had with him. Disagreeing on the degrees of buffs/nerfs doesn’t equate to needing to be a hostile jerk to somebody who repeatedly attempted to give advice. (Which he even just said helped, so it’s not like it was some useless advice)
The shield negates shooters, but is slow to advance and stamina can drain quickly, too slow and too quick; you really should be able to charge while blocking or something.
You must be extremely lucky with your team composition because Ripper (and Stubber) is noticeably behind Rumbler and GGaunlet on Heresy, and much more so on Damnation. The GGauntlet also pairs a lot better with shield. Ripper is in a similar place as the Stubber, too much recoil, too long to brace, bit too long to reload and it has the additional downside of being low ammo and even wider spread and recoil.
It looks better on paper than it actually is. Maybe the mythical gun-lugger will make it usable?
Is it fun? Sure. But when crap really hits the fan you won’t be able to save yourself or help your team much. It should have gotten a buff already, even a modest recoil reduction , tighter spread and double ammo capacity would have helped.
P.S. Unless you have the MK2 with bugged 8% T3 Fire Frenzy blessing which gives 80% boost?
One thing to remember is that you only need 1 point of toughness to not receive any damage from ranged attacks. Taking lynchpin will start returning toughness extremely quick. Dodge side to side to avoid fire and start the regen. Stay with teammates andbuse cover if needed. The ripper mk 2 is extremely effective in clearing shooters even on damnation.
One thing that could help Ogryns out is that there is massively reduced stagger whenever your toughness breaks.
At least then you could power through towards those pesky shots and bonk those runts on the head.
Should also apply to melee hits, honestly. Ogryns strong. Make 'em feel strong. They keep swinging until they die. Stagger mechanics for them feel out of place and awful, especially given how big they are and how often they will be hit even when trying to get behind cover.
