Do you guys think we'll ever get a new staff?

I don’t feel like there is a lore gap. We may be ex-prisoners condemned to expiation via service, but we’re doing it by service to the Inquisition, the institution that is (in their own eyes) second only to the Emperor. An institution that can requisition, intercept or ‘borrow’ anything (including bodies) under its remit of protecting the Imperium. Giving advanced weapons to a near-suicide squad and throwing them into high-risk, (allegedly) high-reward operations isn’t too out there. Yes, you’re sent out there to die, but they want you to do as much damage as possible.

There have also been examples of non-Inquisitorial penal kill-teams that were all issued with stormtrooper-grade or better equipment (carapace, hotshot volleyguns, meltabombs, etc.) on their suicide mission too, such as Caiaphas Cain’s first action with the Valhallan 597th and Schafer’s Last Chancers.

We’re not part of a penal legion, we’re spare and expendable bodies for Inquisitorial Kill Teams, and as you said, the advanced stuff only start being available at higher ‘trust’ levels, however erratically they portray that narratively.

I feel like at the end of the base story our character have proven themselves properly to be capable to take care of the tasks they throw at us, so it might be suicide mission for your average soldier, but it feels like we are very much expected to carry out the missions. Yeah death is always a possibility, but I don’t feel like we are just fuel for the meatgrinder anymore.

More advanced weapon unlock also follow this pattern when at a certain level we are granted access to higher tier gear, since it’s they are expecting us to actually bring it back.

I have been asking for a long time for a ‘chain lightning staff’ that is damage oriented, NOT a stun staff.

And it should have THICK bolts, not the current massive group of thin ones.
ChainThick2

With an optional “WITNESS YOUR DOOM!” shout.

This is what something called Smite should look and feel like, not the Electric Tickler 3000 we currently have.

PRetty much. IT actually kind of IS what brain burst looks like, but BB is usually hard to see and very slow. Psyker lightning is a big attraction to the class, but I want something that blows holes in people, not something sold at marital aids shops.

I think those simply didn’t happen (yet) cause 1) they need to be able to drop weapons in the future; 2) they might be harder to balance and make unique (Gr.Launcher: Ammo replenishment and various ranged buff the Vet can have; H.Stubber how to make it work without making it too close to the Braced Autogun)

As for the rest, the others have explained it.

whatever you have fun with

Before they add any new staves, Fatshark should take back to the drawing board all existing options. They all need unique light attacks. The special attacks should serve a purpose. On the top of that balance. Virtually all current options are just overtuned to hell. I just stopped playing with staves past Patch 13.

Fantastic posts from a lot of people here! Just wanted to add that barring new staves entirely, one thing I’d like to see addressed is the staff special. It just feels like such a huge missed opportunity.

Just to throw some ideas of what it could do:

  • Since most of the staves are plenty powerful on their own, a simple attack like FSwords wouldn’t do. So what if the special just made like a massive, powerful warp blast closer to the Thunder Hammer but at an extremely high peril cost? Something to really just remove some problem out of your face in particular as you’re blasting away?
  • Or it could be more about utility, like a kinetic blast wave with high stagger and a small AoE?
  • Or maybe like Power Swords it would instead power up the staff so your next secondary would instantly reach full charge?
  • Or what if each staff had a special of a similar nature as the staff itself? Trauma would release a large damaging blastwave with high stagger, Void would do a powerful beam-like attack piercing a few meters into the enemy lines, Surge would instantly shock and stun the enemy with extremely high crit bonus dmg (perhaps once held would keep it stunned like smite, but with very high DPS and on 1 target only), Purge would stagger and add say 6 Soulblaze at once by setting the enemy ablaze. Could be anything really.
  • Or instead of melee, it could be a third ranged attack for some extra options or utility for staff gameplay in general. This could go a long way for buying more time for our first new staff too.
