The fact that we’re getting double barrel shotguns, a weapon practically nonexistent in 40k imagery and lore (along with some other things like the revolvers) before we get new staves for the Psyker really feels like whoever is in charge of managing new gear these days is more invested in meme-weapons from other games than in fleshing out appropriate class equipment.
It would also explain why Melk constantly offers my psyker choice selections of firearms while never showing my Vet the good stuff.
Nah its another hive ganger style gun, though some lore mentions drop troopers using double barrel shotguns for their compact frame. A cut down concealable weapon for devastating damage to unarmored, hard to miss. Aka it is a good weapon for crime in a hive city.
However one of the skins for it has a pretty long barrel, which proceeds to fly in the face of the lore justification behind using one of these instead of one of the many beautiful combat shotguns.
Main weapons, tho actually yeah you’re right, the game probably refers to melee as “main”.
But I meant staves / ranged.
Illisi and Deimos are both much appreciated tho, fantastic swords each! But they kinda emphasize my issue. They’re both Force Swords with all the perks that brings, and while Illisi is fantastic for cleaving AoE’s and Deimos is incredible for single targets thus complementing any build between the two of them… aside from Surge we only have AoE staves. And Surge isn’t a boss killer either. ![]()
A bolt staff would give psykers something they literally don’t have: A ranged, extremely high precision dmg single target staff.
I don’t play it much in Verm (I’m a kruber/bardin guy) but I like it
would defo rock it on psyker if it existed

I had to actually go to GW’s site and look at the bit on the sprue to see if it was actually a shotgun or just like a large handcannon or something. I think that’s the only example in the entire model range, rules-wise it appears to actually be a pistol.
I kinda wish we could get a magnetic staff so you could absorb bullets from enemies and repell them back at them. They could also allow us to perhaps tear stuff off the walls or floor to throw at mobs too. I know that grav weapons do exist in the imperium just not sure if there is a staff equivalent
honestly the psyker’s arsenal feels like a field of missed opportunities.
There’s a ton of things you can do with magic.
I loved the beam staff. The right click sniping exposion with the little zoom in and out made for great elite and special killing.
Funny how Sienna had a literall sniper riflen ow that I think about it.
Assail: The Psyker lifts a boulder or heavy object from the ground and hurls it towards his enemies.
Could be fun, but I don’t think they’ll have weapons change the appearance of the map itself, maybe having the projectile have a more natural/randomized appearance and appearing from behind. Could be fun if it work like an ammo system, had that idea for Sienna for a Sanguine Swords Staff.
Get 4/5 projectiles that don’t passively regenerate, action 1 throw a single projectile, while charging let you focus multiple projectiles and throw them all at once.
Special being the way the projectiles are recharged.
(Also give a side node to Ogryn’s rock to have a slight chance to have an enemy helmet instead of the rock)
What do you all think about Psyker getting the Deepwood Staff to fill that “Assail Staff” niche?
Yeah it sucks that Psyker doesn’t have a good single target staff, or a good sniper. Surge is single target, but it (imo) does no damage.
Void has the range, but the flight time and the long charge-up means it’s only a sniper on enemies that are either in idle animation, or hunkered down and not moving. Also suffers from the same uninspired primary attack.

Yeah Surge also has pitiful range. It’s a close-mid range weapon at best.
Void only becomes a sniper if you can do the quick mafs calculation of projectile velocity, enemy movement direction and distance in your head. You can get used to it, but god it is it annoying. Also don’t get me started on the copy paste primary attacks we have on staves. VT2 had so much veriety in that regard.
I just want a hitscan long range single target staff.
Like combining a lock on from brain burst and doing magic missile repeatedly.

I think the only reason we dont have a sniper staff is that BB and a charged Assail both sorta fill that role well
