We can split hairs on verbiage back and forth for a couple of hours if you like.
But if you can see the inner workings of Fatshark to explain how it all threads together in a GaaS fashion, please enlighten the rest of us as to how the Locks are an essential part of the game, just as an example of your insight?
Because I look at it and all I see is a bland, frustrating, and artificial way of extending the games playtime that doesn’t have any meaningful connection to the rest of the games systems.
Basically, they said they would do something, but then they didn’t do it.
The actual solution: actually doing it.
Their “solution”: still not doing it, but also not saying that they will do anything.
and i was pointing out that they did it to themself. its not like they tried to roast a marshmallow on a fire and it engulfed their hand, they hauled a truck of gasoline into the firepit, and then got confused why the heat turned up…
FS: hey look weapon atachments and a more deterministic crafting system wow!

f̶a̶n̶s angry mob:
pretending its logcial to distance themself because THEY f’ed up is ridiculous, it never works for any studio, its always better to admit your wrong.
I want to highlight that idea that Fatshark don’t have any plans for the systems or mechanics in their game and are just misleading and stringing along the remaining userbase into thinking they have a plan so they can retain some sort of relevance in a market that’s quickly leaving them behind.
You start to look like someone that loose its control. You start to harangue others and even calling them with rude expressions…
Maybe a break with the forum can be a good thing to do?
You know, I am not the enemy here. My reasoning is this one.
you asked for locks removal for 7 months without any success
there are a player base that vanished and also a mass of players that ask for locks removal
as the locks will remain, maybe it could be wise to look at the issues that can be corrected in the current system
From the discussions, I have identified only 3 problems:
there’s a part of players that think crafting takes too much time regarding the resources collect, the time to find a good base weapon and crafting something good. I am in this category.
there are people that want a way to get end game weapons now. I believe they will get something that is already planned. But, sure, due to this community, they cannot announce it.
there are people that think that the system is not rewarding the time you spend in the game. I would say that the RNG system is not made for that. It is more a “wow I did not expect to get this”. However, RNG can be mitigated.
As I said, this need to define the terms used. You said me that what I consider a good weapon is not a good weapon. However, this is just a matter of feelings. I defined what I consider a good, excellent and a perfect weapon.
Tbh, good weapons (in my definition) will be easy to find. Excellent just need you time (found a 379 shotgun yesterday… consecrated to orange and got no respite T4. that twas the second try of this serie). Perfect weapons are rare.
As end game weapons are not mandatory, and that you can get excellent weapons that have only a small difference, I am not sure (my opinion) that the fact you cannot find a perfect weapon is a game breaker.
However, believe me when I say that I really would like that a solution comes from FS. I am tired to see pointless discussions week after week about the locks.
Locks will remain… yes that’s bad, their system is bad, unfriendly etc. But this is just a system around the core game, the missions.
Literally, I would say that if you can’t live without these locks, then you should maybe play something else until something similar of the red weapons come.
But, if it is about chances to get something valuable or that the system have really too low odds for one or several part of this gigantic RNG fest, these points can be mitigated or even corrected.
Fact is, complains go against the locks without defining the problem they would want to see solved. A confusion is made between the problem, and a possible solution. And as they won’t remove the locks, the problems need to be identified.
As I said, the system permits to get excellent weapons without big work (with the exception of force swords that have too much blessings). The update will bring the possibility to get a good weapon without any work. Perfect is not something you should aim for in this system.
Now, maybe it would permit to progress to talk about other parts of the crafting system that could solve the problem encountered by players, as they won’t remove the locks.
And this is not the perpetual complains that will push them for a system like the red weapons. If it was in VT2, it will surely be introduced in DT in the future.
Or, you can continue to loose your time at begging for something that won’t happen as:
or it would make pointless everything outside the missions (resources, shops, Morningstar etc.)
or it would need a full rewrite of everything that is not the core game… and I can understand why they don’t want to spend all their time at rewriting a game system, especially cause they cannot know if the community will be happy… they could spend 1 year at rewriting everything for maybe seeing new complains. And also, 1 less year with new content etc. means also the game would be outdated by the time the new system would be ready
yes… and I also described one other one without any RNG and that would also balance lot of things…
However, it means too much rework of the entire game. And, again, it seems they won’t do it.
Tbh, I have never seen a game changing its entire system after it was released. But, I have seen lot of games introducing features that can fix the most annoying features of their game.
Problem is that they don’t want to work on a entire new game system… and I can understand that.
Final word:
I will repeat it… nothing would please more than that the community would be happy with the game.
Especially cause we could also talk about the annoying parts of the game that the “players”, that spend a little time on this game, can’t see. I hate the contract system… for me, this is the most annoying part of Darktide.
It needs me to play too much time the same character to achieve all of them and get the bonus. This ruins my experience, especially cause Merk is one of my sources to get good weapons.
But, instead of improving the game in the right direction, we are stuck on the “remove locks” discussions.
Let’s finish by saying that FS is not against introducing players ideas. I quoted Rashad, PC T3 or even the shared blessings knowledge. They have even listened to the demands to nerf flamer.
So, if they don’t implement something, this is surely cause they estimate it will hurt more than it will help the game.
Maybe if alternative solutions would be proposed, they could pick suggestions and implement them…
Yeah… no.
I am just getting annoyed by multiple people adapting a similar way of misrepresenting people’s statements in a specific way that was previously limited to 1 or 2 people.
This behavior is pointless and just inhibits proper discussion of the topic, so me being annoyed by it, is completely reasonable.
They promised one thing, then delivered the opposite.
And now you think they want to actually deliver what they promised, but can not say so, because the community has been waiting for just that, since release?
Ok.
You are doing it again.
Misrepresentation in (almost) every single one of your posts.
Yes… imagine if anyone had proposed alternative solutions…
In this thread alone, you have claimed multiple times that no alternative solutions have been proposed.
And multiple times, someone has corrected your lies.
Yet you keep going…
You just can not stop misrepresenting and lying.
No I don’t. You just focus on one thing… and don’t want to see the others.
Locks are part of a system, the core of its system. Removing them make the system pointless.
And that’s also what they seem to think:
I have understood you just want locks removed and you think that it will solve your problems. However, they think that it will impact badly the items acqusition.
You want to ignore this… your choice…
However, don’t expect them to go for this if they think it will impact badly the game.
That’s what I try to explain to you…
Again… I said it numerous times… This system is bad. In my opinion it is a bad system cause we can, potentially, get a perfect weapon. It makes things just boring. We all chase same blessings, at one or two exceptions. I prefer balanced system, and the one I described without any RNG is a balanced one that can bring lot of different experiences, as you would have to choose weakness and strenght of a weapon… As I said, I don’t expect them to implement that or even think to it…
The system is the exact contrary of what they want for the game.
Maybe you could take into consideration the fact that they don’t want to remove the locks?
This means, as I said, or you stop the game until a similar feature of red weapons come, or you can suggest things to correct annoying parts of the system, other than the only thing they don’t want to consider.
As others have pointed out, you simply ignore everything that people say past “remove locks”, so that you can repeat the same thing over and over again.
There’s nothing of any significance in what Catfish has stated there and until they share their design ideas and intent in any detail, those words will continue to lack substance.
They’re just doing what they’ve been doing for the last nine months. Stringing everyone along with empty hope.
Lol, remember the rejects unite update where they sent out a press release stating there was crossplay, only for the update not to have crossplay and then remaining dead silent about it?
Not totally wrong as FS does not communicate anymore since they saw how the community reacted.
I would say that I would love to see a roadmap for the game… and even without any date.
First part of the sentence the point the “remove the locks” demand.
Second part of the sentence they explain why they won’t go for this.
Final part, they say that they could eventually think to other corrections of the system (other than the remove the locks solution)
That’s how I interpret this…
Let’s summarize what I said:
you want that they remove locks to get perfect weapons (at least it is what I think after reading your posts as a good weapon is for you what I call a perfect one)
they answered they won’t cause it would impact too badly the system
I say maybe it is time to think to other changes to the system to address players problems
Sorry, I can’t see where I am misrepresenting. I just emit an opinion.
Few here are able to summarize their real problem with the system. When you talk about the odds to get something valuable, you don’t even describe it.
As I said, an excellent weapon is one with 2 T4 blessings (or the blessing you want) and a T4 perk. Fact is that you can find such weapon… you just need time.
My complain is that we need 3 missions to just craft one weapon, that we need several tries to get something you want to use, so a lot of missions to complete and that we need plenty of missions to get a decent base weapon if we try to use Brunt’s Armoury. All of this, point to the time needed to get something I want. With 30 minutes for one damnation mission… it is really a lot of time you need to invest.
From the answers I have seen, you have not the same expectations as me and it seems that what I call an excellent weapon is not sufficient for you. So you aim at what I call a perfect weapon.
There are propositions. I never said that there is no other solutions proposed. You are totally misrepresenting what I have said.
I like the one about the weapon reset btw… but I fear that they won’t add it cause it would impact the weapon acquisition.
I just said that asking for locks removal/soft locks is not something that will happen now. I guess that a soft lock will come in future… but actually, they don’t want to go for giving such mechanic.
So better to discuss what we can change in their system to mitigate the frustration.
Nah. This isn’t even a reflection on the community. Or at least it didn’t start this way. This silent treatment is just what they do. Happened at the VT2 release, and it’s happening again now.
There is no need to have even soft lock system in such game like DT, itemization is simplistic, it’s not an arpg/mmorpg where you have 5 affixes slots+legendary effect+3 gem sockets on weapons, armor parts, and jewelry. Gear progression in tide games is there just to add some color to the game, even perk pool consists of 50% crap affixes, there is no point in forcing people to grind to get rid of +1 stamina on weapon. Locks can work only as a part of deep and good itemization system with different activities and loops aswell as loot pinata moment or grinding 1 boss for 100 hours cause there is a certainty for specific item drop.
I for one don’t trust a word Fatshark utters at this point. What actually does or or doesn’t make it into the game is all that really matters.
Fatshark has been stringing us along since before the beta in one way or another. They have no plan that can be shared, no design intent that can be discussed, nothing. It’s all misdirection and obfuscation from them. Quoting Catfish is a pointless direction of discussion IMHO.
The only plan they have is probably “figure out how to squeeze the most money out of what’s left of this games Community and release on Xbox.” I don’t know why people are defending Fatshark behavior and their design decisions. They’ve given zero reasons to trust them or their motivations.
