Darktide Xbox Feedback (Performance and other issues)

This is general feedback specifically related to the Xbox Version (specifically Series X in Performance mode), not about obvious bugs like unlocalized string description text or talents not working 100% as described. It is based on my 10+ hour experience of Xbox Series X gameplay.

Performance:

  • In my opinion the most important issue and definitely needs some work. Framerate seems generally close to 60fps in performance mode, but frequent stutters are ruining the experience. Not sure if there is that one underlying main culprit causing the stutters, but they definitely get triggered by certain explosions like barrels or Ogryn “Bombs Away!” Blitz Box opening (Youtube Link), sometimes even by simply moving around on certain parts of maps (even when no combat is happening) or even the Mourningstar. It’s also a bit inconsistent, since I had stutters in the Prologue area on some characters which did occur on some but not all 4 of my Prologue runs. I don’t know if the stuttering issue gets worse when moving to higher difficulties like Damnation or Auric Level, but so far it doesn’t seem to have changed enough to notice when going from difficulty 1 to 3. The 30fps Quality mode also seems affected by the stutters, although they don’t seem as severe as in the Performance mode.

Graphics:

  • Seems mostly fine to me. Obiously coming from VT2 on Series X running at native 4k, the image quality/resolution in performance mode feels definitely a bit downgraded (softer image) and the anti aliasing is also not always as effective. It’s not bad by any means, but maybe something that can be tweaked a bit in the future, especially with image reconstruction/upscaling tech like AMD FSR constantly improving.

  • Also there are no graphics options other than performance/quality mode, a motion blur toggle and an FOV slider. Maybe add options to toggle stuff like Bloom, DoF, Lens Flares and Sharpening, since some people prefer to have these type of effects off.

Controls:

  • Look/sensitivity:
Not terrible, but definitely room for improvement. There is no vertical sensitivity option and the available sensitivity options affect both axis. Aim accellaration doesn’t seem to affect vertical movement which makes looking up and down (& diagonally) painfully slow.
Suggestion: add separate X and Y Axis sensitivity options and make aim acceleration affect vertical movement as well.

  • Aim assist:
Default “Full” setting feels bad to me, as it hinders my camara when doing quick turns. Turning the camera with multiple enemies around you feels stuttery because the camara slows down at every single enemy along the way. Personally I think changing the default to “off” would make for a much better starting experience.

  • Vibration:
After playing so much VT2 on controller, the lack of vibration on light attack melee hits feels very shallow. Ideally add it as an option with a dedicated intensity slider.

Devoted Rejects Cosmetic Pack:

  • After digging for some information about this, my conclusion is that it was never made available to PC Game Pass players and by extension Xbox players.
I have 1500 hours in VT2 on Xbox, I think I’ve earned that pack
So please add it, either free for everyone or by checking VT1&2 ownership on Xbox, but keep in mind that PC gamers using MS Store are technically not able to own and play VT1 or 2 on their Xbox Account without owning an Xbox and therefore have no way of unlocking it.

I invite everyone to comment on their personal experience with the things I mentioned above. I’m sure we all want the best heretic slaying experience we can get.

There’s an input register issue for the Veteran with grenades. You cannot just lob the grenade for the short fuse regardless of tapping the right trigger. The input is always received as the trigger being held. It makes starting the penance completion line for veteran a pain or in general in a large scuffle with monstrosities when you really wanna get that extra damage in only for it to go off AFTER your intended target has moved out of the range of its explosion.

Agree fully on the controller feedback.

A separate vertical and horizonal slider would go a long way to fixing the aiming issues, making acceleration work for all directions would be good as well.

Id also add it would be nice for the different controller input presets available on xbox to be available on pc as well.
been playing with the single default preset currently available and it leaves a lot to be desired.
