The stronger stamina break hits going straight to damage kills the notion of blocking moves. You should stack these on slab shield and deflector force swords also running kinetic deflection. There is no use case for blocking more than a swipe from trash/ragers or other extremely low cost moves to block.
In VT2 you could survive a CW overhead with dual axes and stamina in tact, it was god tier for actually affecting moves.
Block effeciency is underrated. As well as extra stamina. Let me list you examples from more… overall useful… to more specific cases:
When you revive teammates - you enter a block. Which means with block effeciency you can save your teammate under attack of multiple melee enemies. That’s a clutch and a difference between lost and won game. People dont understand, that you MUST immediately get your fallen teammate up.
Instead they spend time killing enemies around and only reviving after. But by that time - new enemies come. I had so many instances where i died to 5-6 melee horde enemies and can be easily saved even under their hits. But my teammate kills those horde first, then comes to save me, get’s trapped/grabbed/pounced/grenaded/flamed and either not revives me, or dies himself.
With block effeciency i saved so many teammates from such dire situations, just because i could take those extra hits.
When you want to reset dodge count. Darktide has limited amount of effective dodges. After which you need to chill for a couple of seconds before you can dodge effectively again. Holding block for that purpose is the best way to reset dodge count. As if you will try to sprint away or slide away - you will be hit in 70% of cases.
You are blocking. Sometimes you get surrounded by enemies and cannot dodge. You need to block and push to get out of there. Sometimes you have a blocking weapon (shield or force swords blessings) to survive under ranged attacks. Sometimes you use weapon that has block/block+push in it’s attacks combo (like Eviscerator) and block effeciency helps to not get hit while performing such combos.
You are using Catachan sword. Holy Emperor that thing is great. Get +3 stamina, get block effeciency. And you can parry for days. You can solo Melee Twin Boss. You can solo Chaos Spawn. You can fight berserkers in melee without fearing for your hp. Just spam parry and see eveything die in front of you.
last and least. You are a professional meta-gamer, that blocks few enemies in front of you, so enemies in the back will come closer and you have nice and tight pack of enemies to start slicing and dicing, without being worried about incoming hit from somewhere in the backline of horde. Most of the times used by ogryns with shields. As they can cleave entire pack of mobs with brutal momentum blessing in one heavy.
Literally just did an Auric Maelstrom mission where between all 4 of us we blocked a total of 10 times (4, 3, 1, 2)
The person who blocked the most was me on my ranged build, and the person who blocked the least was our knife zealot who was constantly in the thick of things as knife zealots do.
BCR is way too situational as people keep mentioning in this thread.
Our revives/ went through with grenades, and space making ults which are far more reliable, and safe.
Block Efficiency + Loyal Protector w/ extra Radius Modifier + Orox Mk II Battle Maul & Mk III Slab Shield = The PERFECT way to get all the enemies into one choke point, so that your team can ANNIHILATE them.
You’ll make it out completely unscathed if you hide in the corner to do it, too
Your parry cost stamina and if you run out you stagger and not swing back so you can end up blocking one attack just to stagger and get killed instead of instantly chopping a rager in half.
Block cost reduction while not used by me would be nice to have when fighting elite waves with dclaw.
oh and you know why they got nerfed? to cope with the brutal momentum blessing changes so that it woul keep kinda working the same most of the times since you need headshot kill to proc the extra cleave
was speaking from a game developing prospective of course, every time i see good ideas being botched in later balance patches i feel like the product i’ve invested my time becoming cheaper
but thats on me, play stupid games win stupid prices i suppose
yes it is, i don’t regret spending my time on it, i just don’t want them to make me regret, thats all
There are a lot of things in this game that need improvements, but it’s still got potential to be one of the best 40K video games of all time. It’s already (arguably) the best 40K FPS, but that’s specifically my opinion.
