they shouldn’t, it adds good pacing and positioning
Like i said only while sprinting, stamina already is a combat resource you have to manage, stagger while sprinting is just pace breaking and this also won’t break the requirement for positioning. So i don’t see the point you’re making.
Exactly. Dodge blocking stamina regen + sprint already costing stamina but being staggered while sprinting by range attacks is breaking the flow and smoothness of movement. The movement is the staple of Tide games. Those two things are currently the reason for me why the combat system is still not good enough, fun but is sometimes frustrating as hell. Two little changes would make MASSIVE positive difference in how the game is being play and how movement would feel.
It wouldn’t make game easier, just more fun, more smooth, more responsive, less sluggish and clunky and less frustrating.
Me thinks we all need some more time getting used to the mechanics before we all think we know better.
You think I will think about them differently after another 150h?
When I was young, I had no idea how to solve a rubiks cube.
I knew how to use it and even get a side or 2 correct.
But no matter how many hours I fiddled with it, I wasn’t able to figure it out on my own.
Me thinks the combat is bad compared to VT2 and needs changes : )
Yeaaaaa… well, I don’t know about my cube skills but I have been gaming since 1990 and put thousands of hours in Vermintide games and already 150h in Darktide so I will stay with my assumption that I won’t change opinion about stuff I am critising here. There are things that obviously were put in game for “balance” but it was done in lazy way without thinking how it will affect “feeling” of the game.
When you balance video game there “hard way” (long, small steps, testing, reworking whole mechanics/animations from scratch) and “lazy way” (dodge blocks stamina, range weapons doing stunlock, cancelling sprint etc.). Fatshark chose lazy way.
There is also this big disconnection between Fatshark and playerbase since 1st Vermintide. They always have that “this is how we wanted our players to play our game” vs community saying “hey, it’s super fun to play your game THAT way” (which is different than what Fatshark imagined). For a long time in every Tide game there is this period when Fatshark tried to force certain way of playing their game onto players with forcing a really bad gameplay changes that feel sluggish, clunky, sloppy, like trying screw that is too big for the screw head (“JUST DO AS I WANT!” approach) or bending a part that was not supposed to fit there.
After few months/year they back down on that because players opinion doesn’t change and they actually make game better. But I feel there is always that hurt pride there that in their heads game was supposed to feel different. That was always my feeling after years of being with them in Tide games. I might be wrong, I am cool with that. But Fatshark was always unbelievable stubborn developer when it comes to backing down on changes they thought are cool and then getting hit by reality wall that nobody wanted it. Dejavu, is what I have again.
Yeah. This sucks. I was surpised to find out this is how gear progression works in this game
Incentivizing players to wait an hour for gear that MAYBE is good and MAYBE is the type you want is bad
Even Vermintie 2’s gear system worked better
Each chest awarded 3 RNG items dependent on the difficulty of the mission played
THEN you can scrap and craft gear
If solving a Rubiks cube was in any way comparable to Darktide you may have just said something profound
I’m really getting fed up with the store.
I only want to buy a new [redacted] slab shield. Why do I have to wait another 40 minutes just to see if there’s even one available?
I just spent the better part of 15 hours leveling my ogryn to 30 so I could actually start caring about the traits and blessings on the gear I use, and the game’s like “Nah. How about a green shovel instead”.
And when the refresh DOES happen the game might STILL just go “Lol, get [redacted]. If you’re lucky, I’ll let you make progress in an hour. Later chump.”.
Getting WELL over it at this point.
Edit: And like clockwork, the refresh didn’t give me any blue melee weapons. At all.
The rating system is a bit misleading, since it breaks down into three components:
The base rating of the weapon determines it’s percentages on the bar stats, which are currently capped at 80%. The cap for base rating seems to be 380, and that’s the de facto most powerful weapon you can currently have once the crafting goes live.
Then there are the perks, which usually come in 4 quality levels, that have their own point contribution to the weapon’s rating, up to 50 points on a weapon with two level 4 perks.
And lastly there are the blessings, which just like perks come in different grades. Currently it’s nearly impossible to get a weapon with two level 4 blessings, but once crafting goes live that will be another 110 power contribution on a weapon with two level 4 blessings.
So, if you see a white weapon with a 380 power rating that can actually be a much more powerful weapon than a yellow weapon with a 430+ rating. You just need to upgrade it.
Once the crafting goes in a lot of that will make more sense. You’re right that the RNG is excessive though. The crafting might not actually fix that since you can’t modify or upgrade bar stats in any way.
I’m also worried that rerolling perks will be awful because with the perks having power ratings there are like 80 possible bonuses you can roll on them, so randomly rerolling them at an exponential cost basically just carries a not insubstantial chance that you will have to sink a hundred times more resources in than someone who rolls lucky.
It’s going to be awful to try to push you to check that store for multiple good copies of weapons. They want you back at that store, checking it every hour or so along with everyone else on the Mourningstar, because that way you’re seeing everyone else standing around that store in their cosmetics and the cash shop is right there.
yep lot of good stuff in this post, FS needs to look at this real hard.
The gear store is some gacha game BS
Long time tide player here.
You Devs need to really listen to this guy and implement everything he mentioned here…implement it yesterday. Not only that, but pay him for his salient advice. I am actually angry about the state of this game.
I don’t know if this is possible, but whoever allowed these changes to happen should be demoted at least, and fed to a demon host on average–after being fired.
