Connection lost to host

Playing the game with a friend is almost unplayable as we constantly have the “connection lost to host” error.
Some days it works, other days its 100% unplayable since there are disconnects every 5 minutes.

No problems for either of us when playing Quickplay. Also no problems when doing custom games with other people in it. Only unplayable when it’s just the 2 of us and Bots.

No mods.

UPnP in router activated, even completely disabled the Firewall and it’s still not working.

We both have very stable internet connections and have no connection problems in any other games.

When one of us disconnects, we still see every move the other player does (running around, chugging potions, hitting enemies etc.), but are unable to do anything for ~30 seconds or more. So obviously we didn’t actually lose connection, or we wouldn’t see everything the other player does.

console log from when it happened just now. Some mods enabled this time, but the same thing happens when all mods are disabled.

I notice the difference in the [Steam] line, which is not present in the log where he hosted and I was disconnecting. I don’t know what any of this means, but any fix would be appreciated.

Any Response from Community Support would also be appreciated!

Hi @Terrimore,

Sorry for the delayed reply. I queried this internally with the development team and was waiting on responses

Unfortunately, this is a rather strange occurrence! The error codes printed in the logs aren’t reflective of what’s happening and the game engine is outputting a generic error, or no error. This means that we aren’t able to determine the root of the problem.

It may be worth both you and your friend trying our general connectivity solutions, to see if there’s any improvement:

Also curious, are you able to rejoin the lobby again without issue after disconnecting?

Hello Lev,
We already tried most of the general solutions, except for verifying the integrity of game files, and DNS stuff. Will try that tonight and see if that fixes the issue.

After the disconnects we always can rejoin immediately. Might be also worth to note, sometimes we don’t completely disconnect and just have the “lost connection to host, trying to reconnect” message for 30 seconds without disconnecting from the lobby. Sometimes it’s the same, but with then getting kicked from the lobby.
During the “connection lost to host, trying to reconnect” message we can see everything the other player (host) does, and even move. However on the hosts screen we will just be running on the spot without actually moving.

Ah I see, keep me posted!

That’s good to know, thanks. I was checking as lobbies can sometimes become corrupted, which would prevent either of you from being able to join again - but this rules that theory out.

I also wondered about possible routing incompatibility between you and your friend, but usually this would prevent either of you from joining in the first place - so I think another theory potentially ruled out. Though, if no other solutions work, then I would still recommend reaching out to your ISP and explaining the situation to them, in case they are able to identify any issues.

Unfortunately the general connectivity solutions didn’t help either. Just went through the steps we didn’t try already and had the same disconnect happen after ~10 minutes.
My friends ping in game showed 70-80ms during the whole time, including the time where he was lagging around for 30 seconds as well.

I’m admittedly at a bit of a loss with this :frowning: it’s incredibly strange. I can only recommend contacting your ISP to see if they are able to dig deeper into the connection between you and your friend. Sorry that I’m unable to be of more help!
