Community Comm-Link 2nd March 2023

@FatsharkCatfish
And any update on the new coms link? Can we expect one this week or later?
(the one where you will tell us more about the end of march update)

Edit: that post seems very passive aggressive toned but it isnt

Two things happen which tend to throw more wrenches into the speedrun/collector tendencies: director spawns and constant mob trickle. They have it set up so the director spawns in specials to take care of people trying to push solo outside of the group, but it often targets people that are staying behind to look for pickups, causing them to further lag behind, when the spawns should instead be targeting the group further ahead to slow them down and allow stragglers to catch back up. That, and unlike vt2, there’s often some sort of constant mob trickle that interrupts you from being able to catch up to the group because they run faster than you can sprint, and you have to deal with them every few seconds. There really ought to be more periods of downtime like in vt2 if they want people to be able to look around the map and find collectibles.

Yes you’re right aout spawns but we really need solo private mod, most of time players don’t want to understand that you want to play “cool”.

Look at this thread : Radio silence on solo play/truly private lobbies :: Warhammer 40,000: Darktide The Mourningstar - General Discussions

Fast Shark member said “we are actively working on it. While it technically could work now, we are not happy with its state yet, and we want to ensure the solo experience lives up to expectations. Right now, it does not, and we would do the game a disservice by implementing it as it stands.”
So i don’t understand… Catfish you said “we don’t currently have any further news on Solo play right now” and someone is telling something else…
I’m waiting since the release for solo private mode… and no communication about that… i bought vermintide 1 and 2, now darktide but never again guys. I trust you when you said that you will implementing it but it’s seems to be a lie…
You don’t respect your players base, not cool !

it can be usefull to train yourself at surviving solo…

Hi there,
is it planned to get melk’ resources shared account wide ?

Nothing more frustrating than to not being able to buy the weapon we want just because you lack few bucks… we should be able to do weeklies on all our chars and spend all the money for only 1 of them if (for example) he has 2+ weapons we desperately need on his daily rotation.

Thank you

  1. Team composition - without friends and with no control over bots you can get only random composition. This problem hits the harder, the higher the difficulty.
  2. Game pace - without own team you need to adapt. In many cases there is a mismatch, for example: there is “explorer” in “speedsters” team. Or “speedster” in team of “explorers”.
  3. Penances - some of them need good team coordination or, at least, no disturbance from the team. Again - playing without friends hurts.
  4. Contracts - if we can “speed” contracts in team, why we can’t do this with bots?

As a bonus:
If my bots are based on characters I created, equiped, leveled up, there would be additional motivation to spend time on development of different characters. For me, at the time being, doing contracts and gathering items on each and every single character again and again feels waste of time. I understand that concept of “sharing weapons” between characters can be immersion breaking (but it does not break immersion when one reject exchanges premium cosmetics with another). But for people who don’t have much time gathering resources is problematic…

Then just allow single players to access private mode in the meantime.

I play games to relax and not be stressed out. Being able to hop into a game on my own without thinking, preplanning, or worrying about anything is the best way to do that.

PUG roulette is just a source of stress. It doesn’t add anything fun for me, in fact it makes the game less fun.

What I want from Darktide is to be able to hop on, play a couple of missions in private mode at my own pace, and maybe join a friend or 2 if they happen to be on.

I can’t do that with forced public matchmaking. Not only am I stressed by the PUG roulette, but once I’m in a mission friends can no longer join me due to filled slots.

The “2-player minimum” requirement for private mode doesn’t allow me to do that either. It forces me to look for a friend just to make the game enjoyable. Its a hoop I have to jump through just to play, and there are many many other games I can play that do not have that hoop, so I just play those other games instead.

I’ll 100% endorse this take. I’ve played over 1000 hours of Vermintide, maybe 400 or so of that was solo play with my bots. I very often do not feel like chancing getting random folk in my game, if I’m playing with my bots then the match is progressing at my pace instead of having to 100% of the time be worrying whether someone has wandered off or aggro’d extra crap and potentially got killed.

I’d like to also note a major complaint I still have with Darktide/VT2 while FSCatfish has seen this thread. The devs made two different games in the same genre and then swapped the bumper functions between the games with no option to change it. I don’t know who thought this was a good idea, but it ruins my time in both games as my brain is bum and the muscle memory jacks up and hits the wrong button frequently in the mix. I legitimately cannot comprehend why full rebinding on controllers isn’t industry standard yet, even just from an accessibility stance.

Why did you Guys “fix” the Workaround that allowed us to play solo with Bots? The Game gotten kinda stale for me after 500+ Hours, but Solo Play made it kinda fun and challenging again. It also was kinda nice, playing at my own pace, without having to worry about inconveniencing anyone.
Looking at that ‘Private Match’ Option in the Mission Select Screen hits different now, feels like Fatshark Devs taunting me… aaaw, you thought you can play alone, in a Private Lobby?? Haha, you need to be in a Strike Team, Idiot!!

because it costs them money. It takes up server resources to run a game instance, and if they have a bunch of solo players taking up server resources it’ll cost them multitudes more money, so it’s not something they’re going to want to invest in if it doesn’t give them a strong return on their investment. Hunt Showdown reduced their game time max by 25% and adjusted how people get loaded into matches for this same reason. If enough people ask for it, maybe they’ll do it, but that’s most likely the reason why they haven’t done it.

Well, this solo player has decided to not only not play the game, but also unrecommend the game to everyone I know.

My friends all no longer play the game. Out of multiple social circles I’m in who did play the game, only 1 still does and its very rarely.

If anyone around me expresses interest in buying it, I warn them against it because of all of its missing features. Lack of private mode for solo players being my single biggest gripe.

This will continue until the devs decide to give solo players the missing feature we were promised, either as the advertised local host or allowing solos to access private mode.

Understandable, but honestly this is why I never even wanted dedicated servers. Should have just stuck with P2P.

l4d has a mix of dedicated and p2p capability. I don’t see why this game can’t do the same thing.

Fortunately for me i’ve had my refund today from steam. I really wanted to play this game, but until they do something (like just tet us creation a private session… not really complicated to do that…) i’m not going to buy it again.
Fast Shark need to really hear this.

Definitely the pace thingy. In public games people tend to try to complete the missions as fast as possible - I personally prefer a much slower more methodical approach.

A slower approach allows to enjoy the atmosphere and details more intensely.

But being able to goof around without ruining anyone’s else fun sounds great as well.

I fully understand your priorities, but please when you create solo mode - improve the bots. Let them pick up items the player calls out, let them drop ammo/medpack when the player calls for ammo/healing and add Ogryns and psykers.

In the best case the player could insert their spare characters as bots

When is the Solo Mode happening?

I would NOT have bought this game except that you promised there was going to be a solo mode either “at launch or shortly after in December.”

I don’t want to have to depend on other players who play in different styles, or with no regard to teamwork. They rush ahead. They trigger enemies. They do their own things. I hate people. Why is it so unimportant to the developers? Got no problem adding cosmetics every patch, but no solo mode. Supposedly “ready for December 22”

For me I love to experiment on my own with builds, weapons and practice things. When thrown in with randoms I ALWAYS have at least one Rambo Superman who zooms ahead, has all the fun and then gets impatient with people not wanting to or unable to do that. Now the game which inherently is so much fun is no longer enjoyable.

On the flipside of that, if I’m playing something that is fast paced and newer players get thrown in with me, I have two choices. 1) Slow down and not really play my character, or 2) Go at my pace and have their fun undermined. Personally I always try to slow down to be a team player, but it’s counter intuitive at its core. If you are able to go fast and rip through the content, I do understand that you want to do that, but in a random lobby with 3 other people it is not up to what one person wants or can do, that’s the crux of the issue.

Stress in the game is fine when its the content providing it, but to me there’s nothing more infuriating than a zoomer running ahead of the entire team, and then spamming the ‘go here’ marker in the elevator while you’re looting, fighting and making your way there any way. That type of stress is driving me away from the game.

For instance I only have a couple of people I can play the game with in a private lobby, and life doesn’t allow that very often…so with the time that I have on my own, I have no way to improve at the game, enjoy it fully or even farm for crafting purposes.

I understand that there are other issues that you prioritise at the moment, but seriously, the lack of solo is actively driving players away. And from what I’m seeing in the game, the attitude of a lot of players is that of a solo player any way. No sharing resources, running ahead and killing anything interesting on their own and most importantly; rushing everyone else. That itself just screams “Go at MY pace” which is entitled and not being a team player.

So in conclusion. I think this is actually a very important addition to the game that would keep players playing, do penances, push higher difficulty content and up their own gameplay levels on their own terms.
