The update with the chest, and bomb boons really made the wastes boring to play.
Before if you ran a character you could almost be certain to get the fun build you were looking for 1 in every 3-4 games for me.
But now those builds are much rarer. Instead useless chest boons are like the barrel boons.
The more negative boons there are in game disproportionately effect how many builds are possible. Since there is only a limited amount of coins available the total amount of boons you can get are limited.
Also the grenade Regen ability boon is so busted that if I join a game with a bomb barden Id rather quit. The kerrilian spear spam was nothing compared to endless team ults or 50 morgrins bombs. The grenade potion needs to go as well, or at least not duplicate the potion being held.
Difficulty wise, without a bomb barden cataclysm is still doable without good boons and grey weapons, but it was the playstyles the boons enabled and randomized what made it fun. Right now it’s a little bit of a chore to play.
My suggestion is to take a look at all the boons and start chopping boons that are too similar or don’t affect character gameplay for mele or range combat. Or add in a way that the host can disable boons for custom matches. Sure some hosts might try to cheese with that, but right now there is already a lot of cheese going on with the bombs.
Yeah, it’s bomb boon meta now, I just avoid them when I can, or play Ranger Vet to cheese through annoying weekly events.
The chest boons you can get offered at shrines right before the final mission, thus wasting a slot at shrines.
Most of the time, saving coin means you’re just buying a miracle or nothing at all. Just grabbing random boons until your bomb potion obliterates everything or you get some good combo is now pretty meta.
The boon pool is like 30% bomb and chest boons, 60% “don’t care”, and 10% “wow that’s actually really good”. It’s feast or famine. You either get the 3 or 4 good boons you need to make it a cake walk synergize with the team, or you get utterly shafted. The good boons are extremely powerful, and the rest are mediocre crap. There’s only a couple of boons that are not OP, mediocre, or useless.
Would you rather pay 150 at every boon altar for an almost guaranteed bomb boon build mixed in with some useless boons, and some good ones or save 200 to 300 per boon at the shrine to be offered the same exact same trash?
I don’t mind that many of the better boons are below Veteran rarity, or that there are bomb and chest boons. However, the Veteran boon pool is so full of niche and mediocre stuff that many players avoid Belakor’s temple. Some coin and 2 boons is not typically worth missing an entire mission and opportunity for weapon upgrades and random boons. Also, seems like Khaine’s “kill yourself” boon is almost guaranteed for half the team everytime we do Belakor’s Temple for some reason.
The Chaos Wastes is still my favorite game mode, but to be honest, I don’t think anyone at Fatshark understands the game’s fundamentals. They’re taking shots in the dark based on some feedback and sometimes they get it right, but they also often miss the mark by a country mile.
Same, I love the wastes I wish the team takes another balancing pass.
I haven’t seen at max HP share your temp hp boon since they added more boons.
I used to be able to get that boon on sot maybe every other or every three runs and enjoyed playing with new players with it. Giving the whole team temp hp was a fun healers build that let a lot of players get further and have more practice that I miss.
