CW remove bomb ability regen

Chaos waste is a little ruined for me, if I see a bardin player as the bomb spammer I just quit out.

There is no mele play or range play when the wastes are just bomb spams.

Remove the potion dupes the bomb you are holding and make Morgan’s bomb able to only use once per purchase, no duping with any ability.

This issue is way worse than any kerrilian player. I’m not one for nerfs but this is a super cheese mechanic that makes cata difficulty pointless and has no player skill ceiling.

While I do concur that CW can be trivialised heavily by some not-so-uncommon builds*, it’s a bit unrealistic to expect something so embedded in the mode for so long with no changes, to suddenly be “cut” out of it. Best we could get is a soft rework, and even that’s a bit of a stretch considering the focus for Vermintide hasn’t been on Chaos Wastes for the past… how many years? 3?

*Which is IMO any builds which: generate infinite resources (Ranger Vet; any class with the Red item generating boon); do not rely on boons per se but rather raw power (Battle Wizard); anything involving Myrmidia’s Wildfire boon; anything involving bomb boons or bomb effects.

The bomb boons are recent

Almost 4 years, in fact, since Be’lakor update for CW was in June 2022.

I don’t think half a lifecycle of the game so far is "recent "- the time to address that was 4 years ago.

I made a chaos wastes tweaker mod (WIP, still adding/fixing new things occasionally), allows you to pick any boon to ban. It’s still a WIP, but you can go nuts and make 3 chests of trials on every mission and pair it with the Spawn Tweaks mod to make waves of gun rats or whatnot.

I do wish custom lobbies were a bit more customizable - like the idea you’re exploring with “banning” specific boon - but I suppose it was never the design intention to take away from players the options to have fun in the mode.

It’s just a shame that certain options are so broken that there’s no way to realistically balance them without reining them in substantially.

Well, if you have any ideas about how to balance boons, let me know, and I can make it an optional toggle. When you play modded with friends, then as the host I can make your balance idea a toggle option that you can turn on. I have one so far that reduces the damage to self and lowers the health threshold for Khaine’s ‘do damage to yourself for 25% more power’ boon.

I disagree with this point, vermintide 2 still has a team that releases content. If this was the current opinion than the spear nerf, grail knight CD increase wouldn’t have happened.

All the devs have to do is jump in some games or look at the statistics if they have it and see the current games are being trivialized by bombs, not range weapons or mele system, but a no brain no fun endless bomb cheese

I am wrong alas - I was remembering that bomb boons were incepted a longer time ago than I thought. Lol. Apologies. It’s insane how time flies.

That’s not to say I disagree - I think bomb boons should be nerfed a notch, or Ranger Veteran strategy for homing in on bomb synergies. It’s just one of the problems - I wish the devs did more frequent changes to the game.

I think without going into excessive changes, things that could work would be:

  • Make bomb boons have a cooldown (~60s?), so that Ranger or Engineer, or potion of Endless bombs cannot exploit them excessively,
  • Make all bomb boons exclusive to one another, so getting multiple in a run isn’t possible,
  • Make the potion of Endless bombs “consume” Morgrim’s bomb on expiration of the effect,
  • Make Morgrim’s bomb not saveable with Ranger Veteran’s Lv30 talent.

And then there’s another can of worms that’s other “problematic” boons, but I suppose it would be appropriate to make another thread about those.

Haven’t had time to test, but there are 4 new options for each of those bullet points. May I add I think the 2nd one is overkill if the other 3 are in effect. Making bomb boons exclusive and having a 60s cooldown might be a little cruel for synergy. I agree 100% with all other options. Still, I leave it up to you, added it as a toggle. Have fun!

I probably should have specified that I’d meant that they should be reviewed individually and/or in certain combinations - all 4 at once would definitely be excessive.

Still, I’m glad to hear you got something working with these descriptions alone. I do not currently have folks interested in the game to really help with testing those, but I appreciate your effort and dedication!

Of course, and thanks for the idea, I think I’ll try using a few of these toggles myself instead of just disabling bomb boons.

Practically nothing about V2 is “recent” when they practically abandoned the game
