Carrying fatigue - (player skill all time low)

WDYM, can’t you just build-scrap those weapons to max level if you have the resources?

Edit: I thought arby’s got their class specific weapon at level 1 but maybe I’m not remembering that right lol.

Was editing my post to clarify, but you are correct: you can jump through hoops and waste an ungodly amounts of resources to jump straight to 500.

Brought it on yourself, man. Why only try to reply with Sam about my proposal?

Agreed, 500s across the board means more time engaging with the system.

Do you have a reasonable, nearly existing solution that could? That’s what most of us here are searching for.

I think it sounds like a pretty good solution. Kind of the whole idea of gear score. I had my cop weapons mastered by the time I could get into Auric. Veterans could use the resource skip, as part of my veteran bypass to the new system. And why is having someone have “mastery” over their weapon a bad thing for such a light “skill check?”

And at least it’s a “reasonable” in-game idea, not just “don’t do SBMM” (nobody was suggesting it), “always have premades” or “you can’t stop bad players regardless.” That’s usually what these discussions are for, until all inevitable derailments of all flavors.

thats the thing.

in order to be “overpowered” one must first have power.

say the upper 30% of the playerbase get really elevated by using DS or plasma or arbites… you name it.
do i have an easier time using confident strike and providing free rides through auric maelstrom with my oggy, you bet :+1:

thing is, i´m doing this since beta, well not “carrying” but playing the class for 1500 hours now.

arbites? i could literally watch netflix if i hadn’t placed my gaming rig in a separate room and wouldn´t notice any difference, it´s that self sustainable.
(back in the day i used to watch mcguyver when playing unreal, but dont tell anyone  )

BUT this is after 1500 hours in the game.

when i see folks
(and recently my curiosity was struck by certain “performances”, earlier i didnt even bother checking for gear in the loading screen)
doing green/blue gear with t2 blessings, i start to understand “why” things look as they do in auric maelstrom.

havoc is a different beast, usually people are pretty picky.

anyways, say from the “average” middle onwards, 50% of the playerbase will have an easier time using it, netting less and less output the more inexperiences/unskilled they are.

i´ve seen arbites fail horribly and dudes doing no damage at all with either dueling sword or plasma gun, i´ve seen ogryn (got an upload in 2 days with 2 guys in ascension riser “playing” ogryn) drop where they could have easily just light spammed forward bully 3 and the other knife…

so is op stuff a problem?
sure is cause in the hands of a proficient dude, the rest is hard pressed to keep on and get any kills/hits in.
this can´t be fun.
then again, in order to be a literal hurricane one needs to know the mechanics and class specs to make it work.
like in real life, guns don´t kill people, people kill people.

see example above, the bully 3 isnt guaranteed to keep its wielder highly placed on the scoreboard or even alive.
the weapon alone isn´t anything special, with the right talents and someone quick on his feet and good reflexes, it makes bosses trivial and bleeds everything to death :man_shrugging:

on the other hand this means one thing:

even if things get nerfed, nobody loses his “comfort zone”, well almost nobody but thats nitpicking.
players with high enough skill don´t need op stuff to get through havoc 40 and those struggling to keep up getting carried, well… they don´t contribue much, if anything, with either weapon.

it´s even questionable they´ll notice much at all given their disinterest in even upgrading their gear proper.

a dueling sword with t2 blessings and a messy talent tree is hardly something remarkable.

Because communicating with you is unpleasant?

Again, I don’t think this is a big problem. I think if you play with randoms you get randoms. And I think that random who isn’t cheesing the weapon system (some people do enjoy unlocking things by playing) and has a 400 weapon but is more than capable in Auric would suffer from this gear score system.

But I’ve already discussed a couple of things I think could help people self-select (in-game) if they think gear or gear score or build or play time actuallymatters (I don’t, I see plenty of TL1k+ players play like crap). Like being able to easily see other people’s equipment. Or maybe having even somewhat stricter level-based gating.

I just think it is functionally meaningless when it takes less time to gear up than to unlock Auric in the new system.

We’ve had a reasonable discussion before. But you passed on the opportunity to last time and decided to be unpleasant yourself. What goes around comes around, I believe I was told.

Not that this disqualifies anyone from having a voice, but, then why are you here? What are you here to advocate for other than using resources external to the game to fix the problem those of us do have? I generally don’t jump into discussion topics I don’t have a vested interests in. Certainly not to offer advice to not do something nobody was asking for and pretending that’s helpful.

I believe your stance is they could make friends and use external resources to bypass such a scenario. Is that not a good enough solution?

I wasn’t trying to be helpful. Just had a thought on what was being discussed in real time and added it because it pleased me to think through it and about it. Welcome to the internet. It doesn’t always have to go from non-sequitur (in your opinion) to this:

That’s one mitigation, open to all. But gear score locking players trying new weapons out of difficulties they enjoy (and are capable at) is not currently the norm, and I think it would be a downgrade…even to just have to pay the “tax” to boost to max gear score just to play on Auric would be a downgrade.

Fair enough

Hey, here’s another “non-destructive” or “non-blocking” idea (i.e. something that doesn’t prevent people from playing what they want to play, like they can now) to enable people to exercise more control over who they play with…

Oh but real quick PSA PSA PSA: this isn’t meant to be helpful, as we’re all just cool gamers here and we’re not even in the Gameplay Feedback section, I just like thinking about designing systems.

…let us name our PF lobbies. This would go great with the ability to view full player details. You could name your lobby “500GS REQUIRED, 1k+ TL PREFERRED, MUST HAVE VOICE” or “GOING FOR GRIMS, CORRUPTION RESIST REQUIRED,” and then weed out anyone who doesn’t tickle your fancy.

TBF, he’s has clarified the helpful bit.

I mean, i didn’t consider it a burn. You said the words. I just thought it was the reasonable conclusion to our discussion.

Yea, dude, and you’re definitely trying to be “helpful” all up in this thread.

A logical conclusion to our discussion would be you actually engaging in the stuff I’m bringing up instead of talking about me and you. Or just, y’know, not trying to score some snarky points and just ignoring me.

I’m not sure what you’re on about now or why you’re acting like anyone that can read this can’t see my suggestions annd reasoning and that I’ve not proclaimed myself “not trying to be helpful.” Did you not mean to say that? If you’re not trying to be helpful, what do we have to discuss? Where have I ignored you (even though I definitely should have by now).

If it isn’t clear, I’m really not interested in continuing to talk about me and you. Last message was really another nod to the fact that I’ve been “moving the ball” on this discussion in addition to responding to your snark and rudeness.

I’ve brought up a couple of points now (capable players trying new weapons getting stymied by a gear progression system and the (old, but good) idea of lobby naming) that you’ve ignored while continuing to talk about you and me. And I’m not going to belabor that because I don’t think it makes you “disingenuous” or whatever. If you don’t want to talk about those things, that’s fine.

But nobody in this thread is helping anyone. We’re all just spitballing ideas that FS isn’t even seeing because this is in the wrong forum section. If you’re into talking about ideas, I’ve brought up a couple. If you just want to keep talking about me or you, I’m not interested.

Then why did you?

My apologies, I did not intend snark by saying “fair enough.” I was just acknowledging your statement of not trying to help as your answer to my previous question and responding curtly that I accept that and saw it as the end to our convo.

These points came after I assumed our convo was over, so my apologies. I simply disagree with the problem you have with the gear score idea. That’s it, we just disagree on how that’s a problem and how to handle it.

I very much like the idea of PF customization in general and I haven’t seen it floated enough, so thank you for putting that on my radar.

loud-noises-gif

Seems to be the main thrust of this thread.

I do kind of agree that it seems there are a lot of players who aren’t great team mates. I usually try to stay with my team, go at their pace, but more and more I find that some lag way behind while others zoom ahead or I am getting left behind if I don’t play the most meta builds that can steamroll everything, and they will never come back even if you end up with a boss, horde, and lots of specials lol. Sometimes they just run past med stations even when they really need to heal!

I suspect it’s just new players who came in or came back to play Arbites. Hopefully they’ll shape up (especially when Arbites is brought back into line power-wise).

I hate your HUD + transparency, and I’m miffed that you don’t use my tiny little mod(s) for it which I wrote with you in mind (and me). I’d wish you ill…but JFC, get better soon!

thx mate

just came home from a “small surgery”
second time now my left thumb gets a puss filled infection.
first time i “did it” myself, cut away all dead tissue, took 2 months to heal.

now after 4 days of seeing it again swell i went to the professionals

doc was pretty surprised i wanted to “watch and learn” but at least i now know the scope of it.

but hey, that means another " bonus difficulty " with my zealot yesterday cause every time that thumb hit the space bar to dodge it was very uncomfortable to say the least

once my thumb is unwrapped i’ll give it a look :+1:
i’m glad i usually preload a weeks worth of videos cause right now i’m “on the bench”
