Can you parry overhead chops?

Couldn’t find this anywhere with some lazy googling. Overhead chops from the likes of maulers and crushers are unblockable, but are they also unparryable with the dragon claw sword? I’m pretty much all dragon claw all the time these days but I’m too nervous to find out the hard way.

You definitely can, the timing is tight though and it’s pretty risky.

Yes, even if you mess up the timing you’ll just get hit stunned and completely stamina depleted instead of hit and smushed. This is unique to the catachan parry. If you execute it within the parry window you block 100% of the attack’s block damage and do the special counterattack. Parry is a 0.3s window iirc

ive been using loads since patch 13 on many classes, yes it can parry crushers and the window feels a lot longer than 0.3 to me. havent timed it but i would of thought closer to a whole second. im pretty bad at reading the attacks and im not struggling to parry.

it also does huge damage can be aimed at weakspots and crit. i would say its best use is actually ragers

the one big thing to rememebr when using is that the reposte after parry will disable block so you need to time a dodge (in my experience harder than it seem and maintain the parry)
or be very mindful to not use it if an attack is still coming in from outside the frontal cone (it does cleave and stagger)

I think 0.3s is the perfect parry window, which reduces the stamina cost significantly. I’m not sure what the normal parry window is though

EDIT

  • Massively increased damage and finesse multiplier from Parry special attack, focus on headshotting. Changed so perfectly parrying(blocking within < 0.3s) has massive block cost reduction.

It’s tough to tell in the heat of battle but 0.3 seems a little short to me. I think you’ll party for as long as the parry animation is active correct? I wasn’t aware of a sweet spot.

Anyway thanks for the clarification on the overhead chops, the catachan sword is truly magical :sparkles:

yeah the whole animation triggers a parry its real easy to hit that, apparently theres a perfect parry with big reduce the stamina cost , cant say i noticed that  but when i got a rager or crusher all up in my personal sspace to be honest im not looking at the stamina bar

Yea same, I think I’ll try recording a session next time and review to see the stamina impacts of parry.

Because of the block damage on overheads you can only parry it with the perfect window. Like I said if you are outside that window you’ll just get guard-broke instead. Which is more helpful than dying, but in the thick of it will probably make you die anyway. Very high risk high reward.

In the current build of the game so far you can parry everything

It’s pretty easy to Fire up the Creature Spawner mod and spawn one of the 2 *_Executor mobs and test stuff like this for yourself.

Turn off the regular mobs, invis and invuln, and set some keybinds to make cycling easier.

Yea that just occurred to me. I haven’t messed with mods since I came back to the game, I guess it’s time.
