[Build] Mez's Auric Psyker #4 Traum-o-Matic Blazer

There aren’t enough build discussions on the forums. Let’s change that. One build, one thread. Use the [Build] tag in the thread title. Link to Games Lantern if able.

Alright here’s another one:

Looking for more feedback and discussion.

Illis with Shred and Slaughterer seems standard? Maybe a different melee pairing would be better?

The fun part is damaging and staggering blocks of crushers and elites while setting everything around them on blaze. Huge cooldown reductions lets you hit venting shriek over and over.

Brain burst is just utility for killing slippery specialists.

Discuss!

Edit - anyone have any insight on Obscurus Force Sword these days? I haven’t used it since it was buffed ahead ago. D

ah gee good luck winning any games which such a weak underpowered staff.

fatshark pls buff trauma.

Obscurus is still the worst psyker exclusive melee. Mk5 duelling at least has the game’s sleeziest dodge to its favor. This is just worse Deimos still, with dodge almost as bad as Illisi and worse control on crowds. I was really hoping they’d blend the swords and let you do both kinds of empowered attacks with this. Something to pay its awful opportunity cost in between 2 proper weapons.

Anyway soul blaze trauma is definitely an interesting loadout and kind of fun. The area it will burn stuff is lot wider than the ring the trauma staff will inflict decent damage with. When the item overhaul update happens this blessing should have a T4 version for another 2-3 max stacks when delivered from the staff. Should be fun.

The problem specifically with psyker is that there aren’t really lots of builds you can make with it. Their tree is so small you can practically get everything you want always. It’s part of the reason Psyker tree needs a redeisgn, or at the very least 10-15 more talents.

I much prefer Illissi with Slaughterer and whatever blessing gives power on repeated headshot. Will absolutely mulch through chaff.

I prefer rending shockwave over soulblaze on Trauma, since combustion usually gives me enough soul blaze, but it can be strong.

(Still no reason to take it over the other 2)

Drop battle meditation or warp battery for Kinetic Deflection.

If you’re wanting a meme build that just does lots of soul blaze this is overall fine enough. However trauma staff really doesn’t pair well with crit builds because the charge attack doesn’t do bonus damage on crits. Surge staff or void strike do better with crits, the venting shriek and perilous combustion ignite more than enough things.

This. Can’t really get excited by all of these different builds when the only major decisions come down to basically blitz and keystone. You also 99% of the time take warp rider because who does not want free damage.

I personally run the setup with deimos. Easy control with trauma while deimos makes short work of anything the trauma won’t 1-2 tap.

The point of crits on trauma staff is to apply soulblaze, and the soulblaze range is quite a bit bigger than the damage center of trauma. Hitting a pack of elites with 2-3 trauma blasts, getting to max peril and then venting applies a huge number of soulblaze stacks. Stuff just melts rather fantastically.

Yes and no. I like the Psyker a lot specifically because you can basically pick any combination of blitz, ult, and keystone moving across the tree as needed, and still have enough points to pick up key other talents to round out the build. I think more trees should be like this (vet is the worst, and has way too many talents).

Adding more nodes would dilute the big picture choices and potentially weaken Psyker, requiring buffing other nodes to get it back to where it is now.

Linking a video below on Soulblaze stacking and caps.

More weird mechanics that aren’t really explained in game. Quick summary from the video:

Effects that apply Soulblaze have an internal “cap” and will only apply their stacks if the number of stacks on the target are currently below the specific effect’s cap. Some caps include:

  • Purgatus cap: 16

  • Venting Shriek cap: 31

  • Wildfire cap: 4

  • Perilous Combustion cap: 31

  • Trauma/Voidstrike Blazing Spirit cap: 31 (?? unsure)

  • Force Sword Blazing Spirit cap: 3-12 (?)

So for example, if a group of enemies all have 5+ stacks of Soulblaze and start dying, wildfire won’t spread to any of them. Essentially, Wildfire only helps when other enemies not already blazing enter the vicinity (removed it from the build linked in OP).

So… when you use Trauma staff you’ll add 4 stacks per crit in a radius, can kill elites for more attacks, and then each time you vent you’re adding +6 stacks. So you can quickly get up around 20 stacks on things - which can be a lot of damage to large packs of elites.

Also…

Question: Does anyone know if Force Sword Blessings like Precognition or Riposte that triggers on a dodge will work in conjunction with talents like Empathic Evasion (count as dodging ranged attacks for 1 second after a crit)??

I understand the point, but my point is other builds are better overall and still offer a lot of soul blaze. If you’re going for a meme of all blaze all the time then sure, run this build.

The other Soulblaze heavy build is probably with a Purgatus staff? Yes, it can be deadly but it also has a pretty different play style compared to trauma.
