It’s like a psyker without shields and warp shenanigans. It’s not weak, it just has to play to it’s strengths: be agile and take little damage. The tox grenade melts everything, it’s rivaled only by the shock mine. And btw, I’m tired of seeing people that kite enemies away from the tox pools instead of fighting in them.
I’d rather get rid of gold toughness entirely, so no class has this advantage over the others.
It’s ok to turn the difficulty down while learning. Much easier to learn dodging, blocking, pushing, weapon combos that way.
Kinda pleasantly surprised they released a DLC career that wasn’t blatantly OP. Shocking actually, considering Fatshark’s history of releasing DLC careers that are crazy OP in VT2.
this precisely… i mean if we all know and can agree psycher FEELS over-tuned… then shouldnt Hive Scum BE that power level? it’d still die alot as it already does but it would atleast have reward to playing it
my sincerest thanks ![]()
so far the treatment, albeit pretty rough, is working.
sadly it’s a 2-timer that can only be repeated once, of emprah’s willing, some good 10 years in the future, after that they need “alternatives”
hah, funny you mention it since your sense of taste is totally off with all them meds, so there’s few “rashuns” that go down well without leading to ![]()
but as you say, since february I take it like a stubborn ogryn
and am on the final stretch ![]()
game’s helping me a good stretch to keep a sense of “normality”

Points I can agree however:
- a class should not come with one third of talents affected by various bugs
- there may be talents that could benefit from a buff (grenade launcher is an example)
- there will be talents that will be seen as absolutely too strong.
BUT… about bugs, we all know this is the new industry standards + THIS IS NOT EASY to find all bugs.
Something you will find in 5 seconds, at random, could remain invisible during 4 months of tests. Just because they were testing other parts of what they were coding.
I can be wrong, and I would accept that the events prove me wrong, but I really think that this class will be a pure DPS dealer and that we will see insane things done with it.
IF the class remains the glass canon we have here, and if it is something that requires lot of skills AND lot of concentration (so not the DS way to play the game), then here I would like that the class remains like that.
I just hope they won’t do the same they do on psykers. Psykers were, at beginning, the same spirit. Damage dealer, glass canon. However now, with all toughness regen nodes too good and accessible on top, the psyker get lot of toughness regen. And with the talents, he deals massive DPS… killing mass enemies, recovering mass toughness. I may be wrong about psyker, but this is what I feel… something is wrong with the class when you see insane damages but that players took no real risks.
I don’t think gold toughness is a bad concept
However it’s a horrible idea to allow it to tank overheads, bursters, snipers and even map barrels for free
Just make gold toughness not allow you to bypass these and it should be alright
That’s the issue with it. It allows people to get away with bad play.
Just make shout or relic refill normal toughness to 100% .
gold toughness as a hard counter to certain “difficult” scenarios IS a bad concept as people overly rely upon the “easy” solution instead of approaching the encounter differently from the start.
if I’m dressed like the two dudes in full body armor that had a shootout in L.A in the 90s while the cops where bouncing off with their 9mm “softair” guns and had to call for national guard arsenal for bigger caliber, I can pretty much facetank stuff that’d get other people oneshot ![]()
same with bubble the way it’s in the game right now, feels like that child’s play where the floor’s lava and you jump from safe spot to safe spot.
yellow toughness in advance is the “leroy” mode on a button and an out of jail free card when
hits the fan.
both times the same approach should have ended in a wipe then and there, punishing such cheap attempts, if I had a say in game design.
luckily for everyone, I dont ![]()
I do feel book would be absolutely useless without it increasing your max toughness tho
It stuns enemies and can even throw bosses off ledges. That’s hardly useless.
Ledging is extremely situational
When using it you essentially give away all your buffs (crit chance, damage stacks, all of it except martyr), move at a snails pace forcing you to dosgeslide of you want any speed at all, and stops your damage output overall
Just nerf gold toughness for it but allow it going over 100% toughness
Vet shout on the other hand yeah that one could lose Gold Toughness and instead give other stuff like TDR, Crit Chance, normal Toughness and it’d be fine
Oh god, there are already youtubers pushing the narrative to give Scum an ability to blow up a pack of crushers.
Don’t you guys want to have 50 crushers spawns next havoc season?
ffs.
If by “be careful with balance” you mean to buff it to all hell then yes
The argument that there is “a sentiment that Hive Scum is weak” is a strawman fallacy. I for one don’t think the ganger is weak at all, it’s at least as tanky as dogless arbi and but its damage is, in reality, quite mid; somewhere between zealot and arbi. Additionally, the ganger’s gameplay is incredibly flat and unidimensional because they ensured that the only substantive source of dynamism the class could have had, through the interactions between the class stim, the right keystone, and Rampage were so egregiously underpowered through inflated unnecessary cooldowns and anemic offensive stat density that its completely not worth running. Those unnecessary cooldowns and anemic offensive stats of course being the incorrect solution to ameliorate other issues with the skill tree which ultimately could have been resolved through adding a few sentences to some of the tooltips or adding an additional variable to the overkill node for example.
But that’s not to ignore the fact that there is some small subset of players that are disappointed in the ganger class because it’s not as free to win on as arbi was at release. However, the vast majority of players that are disappointed in the new class are disappointed for a myriad of reasons, which yes at the very, very bottom end do start at auric and havoc casuals complaining that ganger doesn’t have enough survivability through infinite damage immunity and infinite melee immunity via desperado and the left key stone, while they complain that the ganger literally needs weapons that have the have the same damage profiles as the dueling sword, and yes those players are simply completely wrong. But their existence doesn’t discount in any capacity the completely legitimate, and quite spanning complaints with the new class that several groups of players have articulated about it.
Voice of Tertium only seems to activate for gun kills at 12.5 meters or less which is not mentioned in the talent description. From users on the Darktide Discord server who used the Meatgrinder mode with a mod to have enemies attack their characters.
Been leveling shivs with autopistols and they seem to do nothing other than annoy the Crusher.
Yeah a quick test with the Meat Grinder at Difficulty 3 its taking about 17 heavy hits to the head to drop a Crusher, so yeah they are not an answer.
They are:
- if you use stimms
- if you use rampage
- if you use them with the heavy hit (the one that has only one heavy hit)
Really, with this class, crushers are not a problem. The problem is to not get hit, because then you are badly hurt.
If you go ranged, you should not melee, even when hordes come. You can continue to saturate the space with bullets. Your goal, stay away and give a bullets rain.
But in melee, if you want to up your dps, you have to switch your curios to stamina. Then here, any hit is a problem. Of course you should get the talent that permits to recover 50% toughness when it is broken, but even with this one, it hurts.
Actually I see players that look at the weapons lile if they would use them without any talent picked.
The Scum talent tree has PLENTY of tools to manage any situation. Let s quote one that will get a nerf, for sure, toxin grenades.
If you ask me, this class is really welcome. Because it has not all safe tools than the others have (holy revenant, gold toughness etc). It forces you to improve your skills. And the potential is enormous. However, as a glass canon, or you get the best from it, or you get just a disappointment. To get the full benefit of the class, you need to put yourself in the danger zone.
