Shooting barrels and launching teammates into instant death pits needs to result in an instant ban.
Doing it on purpose? Permaban obviously.
Doing on accident? 24 hour ban while you reflect on your lack of awareness.
200% mad.

I’ve always hated barrels, but people seem to love them.
I miss the barrels from VT2 where they felt a lot more impactful, and you could move them to chokepoints or throw them onto patrols. The ones in Darktide barely kill pox walkers.
Not saying they don’t have uses, but usually they just get accidentally cleaved in melee.
Yeah, barrels can suck. You never know if somebody is shooting a barrel strategically, by accident or they’re just being a dk-head. Nonetheless, I don’t think it’s possible to even know if one does this on purpose, so it’s null & void, right (unless they keep doing it in rapid succession, I suppose). Plus, it’s a part of the game, you’ll have to deal with it. If you use mods, there are ones in which it does warn you when they’re going off. But yeah, it’s nonsensical to ban people for that, lol. It makes literally no sense. You can always block them too if you’re feeling adventurous.
tbh i like shooting barrels to get them out of the way before a fight, and also rock some enemies with them, because this has been a tactic in fps since classic doom, for over 30 years now. so it’s weird to me when many players act as if they have never heard of it. they also rarely notice when a barrel is on fire and about to explode, not even when their character warns about it. so yes, it’s recommended to take a look at what your teammates are doing before storming forward.
I do that too. If we’re near an area where we’re fighting for a bit or going passed… I like shooting them in advance, so it doesn’t screw anybody over. Especially, near ledges for sure. Like, when Mortis Trials first came out for example, there’s a sht load of barrels on each map & I would always shoot all of them before the round starts (yellow barrel-wise that is).
Its a good idea, but half the time I or someone else does it another member of the team is sprinting forward into it. So good intentions turn into hitting allies with the barrel. Heck, I often shoot them in hordes only for a melee guy to push forward and get hit by it.
exactly this. do that on the staircase in gloriana and someone will run into it that very moment, every single time. i used the respite before dropping down to message them about the barrels, but by now i should know that most people ignore that.
It would certainly be a shame, if a barrel exploded your last 2 hp away…. ![]()
Would be a huge shame & I would cry to myself in private about it.
Small story… A few years back, I actually played with a duo called BarrelGuy1 & BarrelGuy2. True story. Anyhow, you’re probably wondering why I would even cue up with them after reading those names. It just made me laugh a lot, so I did join them to see what’s going on. Their reputation didn’t disappoint either… They actually did shoot every single barrel on the map to make the team angry. They didn’t get me because I pretty much know where the barrels are for the most part. But yeah, interesting experience, nonetheless. Never ran into them again after that match, but it was pretty entertaining. This post totally reminded me of that strange memory.
lol. at least they were honest about it.
“Watch out the barrel is going to explode”
And you start panicking because you don’t know which one of those 4 barrels you saw around is it.
Just to realize it was the 5th one you didn’t see because its the long bottle one hidden behind the crates where you just hid in your animalistic urge to seek shelter in face of unknown but clearly impending threat ![]()
And as you fly away you look at your team looking for someone to internally blame even thou there’s a realistic possibility it was you who did it. You choose the Scum!
not just barrels, but flamer backpacks and bursters too
Not barrels, ogryn was just farting
Barrels and enemy attacks which can knock players off the map area (not even ledge them) are examples of some the most passive aggressive design / dev decisions I have seen in computer games.
Whoever has made the decision to add and leave in the game is a master rage “craftsman”.
Gloriana with all barrels active and the event with extra throw distance, is one of the best thing ever in this game.
If someone gets mad about barrels blowing up, they have a very simple solution - blow them up before running past. (I tend to do this or I make sure to stay away from the barrels)
Anyone seeing blowing up barrels as a “bannable” offence should just blow them up and stop whining.
I am not sure about that. Tbh, I use them quite often myself to blow enemies up. And I love to do that. Of course I make sure that no team mate is nearby. But… yeah… very often they themselve run straight into a barrel that is already lit up and thus blow themselve into oblivion…
I haven’t had the case that someone is sending team mates flying on purpose. Maybe I am lucky or I didn’t realise someone was doing that on purpose and not by accident.
What frustrates me much more is that, even in auric missions, I get blew up because some karkin dckhead is shooting at a poxburster straight in front of me that I was just about to push back… THAT happens to me way too often! Getting blown up by barrels? Nah, not an issue in my case.
Don’t post angry
I was going to point out that barrels are a source of sorely needed slapstick. But, you’re correct, there are often also elements of character-based humor.
It’s no more funny if you do it on purpose, though, than it is if you cut off someone’s finger.
