Update.
Played the new mission again on maelstrom with scab only, melee only, specialists, and monsters modifiers and it went just fine. So i guess the problem really is the ranged enemies and the near complete lack of cover.

Kinda funny seeing blind pubs yeeting themselves of the map by standing to close to ignited barrels

Most of the specials will come from behind, dropping from the medicae, just pick em off as they land and it becomes a lot easier.
