**Any news on promised solo mod? Anything at all.**

nah, those words are exclusive to big Cancellations, like an whole expansion getting canned or the new and shina character that has been teased doesnt make it etc.

a rather minor feature that barely was mentioned wouldnt get a big anouncement like that ever.

what? i don’t follow that implication at all, it assumes that nothing new would be added to the list of priorities, or at least that new things get added at the bottom.
but they may or may not add new priorities on top of the list, and bottom feeders may never get realized.

didnt someone find that its literally one line of code stopping you from starting a game in private mode alone?

How hard it is to implement isn’t the only consideration.

Literally, one number. This is a 2 that you need to change to one.

But… they obviously wanted to create a solo mod that would work locally on your computer.
Changing that number would just permit us to play online. This would not permit us to use bots, and this means also that you can loose easily a game (a disconnection, crash or any problem and you cannot get back in your mission).

I’ll be super honest, I have no idea why people want a solo version of a game designed to be played with other players, but live service for non-MMO/MUD has always been a scam (TBH most “blank-as-a-service” models are as well). Every feature of this game would have been improved for the end-user experience if they stopped trying to cram that scam (have I said scam enough times yet?) model into obvious offline games.

Add in mixed marketing that has given, “influencers/cantant creators”, a sense of inordinate pull when it comes to addressing gameplay has really solidified this as possibly the worst timeline for Tide-games. IDK if they (Fatshark) in actuality do or not but Havoc has really put a lens to that dichotomy lately in discourse.

Only way I have to make noise is to come here and tell them each time I wanted to buy something from their unethical FOMO shop to support the potential of new maps and weapons to tell them that I’m not buying it lol. /rant

Why do we want it? Two answers:

  1. it was something they explicitly said would be in the game just before launch.

  2. Nearly every other game in the same genre, that being “4-player mission-based co-op shooters.” has solo play. Left 4 Dead 1&2, Payday 1&2, Deep Rock Galactic, Vermintide 1&2, and those are just the ones off the top of my head I’ve personally played. Two of those were even made BY FATSHARK!

“Its a co-op game!” is a horrible excuse when your direct competitors, and even games you have previously made, have the feature you’re now trying to justify not including.

I give you my reasons

  • I bought it after reading there would be a solo game mode. And I wanted this solo game mode.
  • Fatshark ruined game balance. I don’t want to discuss it, for me the balance is ruined. If I can play solo with my characters as bots, I have not to pay attention to balance

I will give you the point here.
I think that’s what Tencent wanted… a sort of PC game with fomo store to generate income like in a mobile game.
48 € to get the 4 cosmetics packs released every 3 weeks…

I suck at words, I agree with ya’ll 100% on the principle. It is silly to be promised as a “feature” when it should have just been a basic part of the game from the start. I don’t quite get why people play solo in L4D2 and Tides but to me it’s not even something that should be considered a feature and just a fundamental part of games like these

Here’s our brand new car, but you have to be always online for it to work. If you lose connection the engine stops. Also you can only buy aftermarket parts from our shop for 4x markup. Also we might break something with the steering and acceleration and ruin your previously happy experience because a tiny group of F1 racers likes it better that way.

You joke but they do that. In new BMW cars for example you need to pay extra and have an online subscription for your parking assistant, a fully offline program, to work. They even tried it with heated seats, 20 bucks monthly so you can use the heating that is installed in your car.

very much this. i enjoy playing with other people (except with the modifier of teammates as difficulty :winking_face_with_tongue: ) but single player is a given in any other game, a staple of gaming. it would give one the ability to explore the game at will, and allow players to come up with amazing speedruns, that’s something that gave classics like the doom and quake games their longevity, with improvements 30 years later.

edit: and btw, sure it needs some additional work, but it’s not like creating a new game from scratch. the maps, the gameplay are already there. they need only to be adapted to single player, and we had good suggestions hwo to handle coop-specific tasks like corruptor, batteries etc.

which is a GREAT way to kill a company tbh

whether or not people USE it matters little. its a BASELINE function.

without it they selling an unfinished game and charging you full price for it.

do you buy cars without a spare tire or a tank of fuel?

Exactly, the only argument is “it’s a co-op game first and foremost” and that falls flat when you look at every single other “co-op game first and foremost” and without fail they offer a way for their players to play the game without other players. Hell, League of Legends, Smite, and Pokemon Unite all allow players to play solo with bots, against bots if they want. Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield games all have campaign modes for PvE content that can be done solo or co-op despite being mainly focused on the PvP content (Halo being the exception as it’s a PvE campaign game that offers PvP matchmaking instead of a PvP Matchmaking game that offers a PvE campaign).

Darktide is the sole exception in a vast world of online multiplayer games that blatantly tells it’s players “sucks to suck. Play online with others or play something else, we don’t want your money.” and if that’s not the message they’re trying to send, they’re doing a pretty poor job of sending any other message.

Edit: Thankfully, Vermintide 2 exists and I’ve been playing that on my Steam Deck, solo with bots, and despite needing to adjust to controller gameplay, I’m having way more fun losing Legend Runs (because I’m bad with controller and a horde keeps spawning every time I accidentally aggro a Chaos Patrol) than I did playing Quick Play with randoms in Darktide.

Hmm. Bungie is clearly making a huge mistake here as well…

If such an iconic “Live Service” game is about to collapse under that horse crap concept, that gives me some positive vibes for the rest of them in the future.

Of course be careful what you wish for, some “Live Service” games might just poof instead of taking the one-time hit to convert it to offline mode or at least adding a single player option.
