Another roll-call to nerf Vet and Psyker? (Mr E edition)

Issue with that is that even in games intentionally based around that system people still base your “value” to the group around your position on a dps-meter/ scoreboard/ kill chart. Doesn’t matter if it was your characters crowd control that repeatedly prevented a wipe - if you aren’t “on top” you’re viewed as dead weight. Its the curse of those classes that fall outside the “holy trinity”.

Humans are plain fraking stupid. Unfortunately so are Darktide’s developers since they had all the information to see this mess coming and still pushed for it. What you’re seeing now is the consequences of when the voices that say “This is stupid” are dismissed as “negative Nancys” and bad ideas get pushed through.

Not really, at least I haven’t seen anyone blaming Ogryn for tanking and not killing as quickly as Psyker (for example). When people start calling “dead weights” – it’s when someone performs very poorly due to either lack of skill to play on higher difficulty or troll builds (sometimes both), which was, again in my experience, almost always justified. I’ve described this earlier.

It’s just the non-ending loop of creating terrible aritificial difficulty gearcheck game mode, then people get fed up with meta and get hate for bringing “bad” gear. Don’t think anything could be done than either leaving Havoc to rot, because FS aren’t competent enough and don’t have the resources to make it feel like some actual effort was put into it.

I’ve had plenty of people value my Arbitrator for the frontline stagger it brings. And honestly every role; tank, support, etc. is capable of dealing good damage. Being a shield with an emphasis on staggering and controlling enemies with my special doesn’t stop me from stacking CDR and spamming Break the Line and topping damage.

What? I have not encountered that on US servers. People appreciate yellow toughness, stagger, and generally not dying as much or more than a bunch of damage.

Emperor Fading Light ammo scarcity applied to Staves through Peril modifiers?

How about Peril turns into “Warp Power”, starts at 100% and depletes on staff use, killing enemies in melee harvests their essence and replenishes Warp Power. Killing tougher enemies in melee replenishes more essence. Change the system completely. Melee Psyker outside of Havoc is fun.

Bonys:

Warp Unbound: All Warp Power costs of staff use are reduced by 50% for 10s.

Ironically, many players in forum say smite and VOC are overpowering, but it couldn’t provide enough damage output. Can you tell me who is right? You or those guys?

Me obviously.

You answered your own question. People complaining about those two but also complaining that neither does damage so they “gimp” the group. Pure support/ utility abilities, so effective as to be consider overpowering, being critised for not doing more damage. Right there is a strong indication that players literally only see straight damage as truly useful. Even when the ability makes seriously massive damage numbers possible for multiple mobs - ex Smite + backstab builds - they still complain about its not doing enough damage.

Frankly its not uncommon either. At some point nearly every PvE game built around a “party” system reverts into a “more dps or GTHO” mentality as power creep takes hold. Early on people value crowd control and utility because their characters are either more fragile or do less damage and thus much more likely to die if things go wrong. As time goes on and the “buff don’t nerf” cries overwhelm balance, eventually even the squishest glass cannon can tank long enough to just burn down yard trash with only bosses requiring any sort of real plan.

Simply put Darktide has rapidly reached the point where if a support ability isn’t made overpowered no one would take it because the player can just kill the threat faster.

if in the same time the player “could” take the pawn off the chess board instead of simply holding him in place, he’s doing something wrong and is a liability rather than an asset.

no one needs 12 ragers having a stroke simultaneously when the alternative kills em in the same time.

them not “hitting anyone” isn’t a benefit when they start moving as the stun ends and THEN dish out the damage they wouldn’t be able to if they lay flat on the floor :man_shrugging:

A properly built smyker will have no issue pumping out dmg, is not the reason why it’s frowned upon.

Even the most diehard crutch users will get bored of hitting mannequins eventually, as it completely strips any semblance of their power fantasy.

is the rarity of such

when playing with randoms only.

and if a pattern becomes a statistic such stereotypes your “default” perception of the bunch.

having a smyker in the game is like stepping on a brake, every time.
