Announcing Nightmares & Visions - Releasing March 25, 2025

I’ll take fresh new gameplay content as a good reason

I’m 50/50 myself. If the lore bits are short, sweet and written more like the flavor text on gear then I’m all for it. If the lore bits are pallets of bricks that read like the Diary entries I might just pass.

Also, they’re not all terribly written. I like Morrow and Masozi and I desperately want to learn more about Brunt. Also a few of the Guards lingering around the ship sometimes say things that make me want to learn more about them.

I’m willing to withhold judgement till I see the final product. Conceptually, I’d rather get lore than more useless materials.

Don’t quite get it—they released Havoc, and now they’re putting out another activity?

Doesn’t sound as appealing as Havoc. Personally, I’d be happier if they focused on balance patches for underused or underperforming weapons—would make the arsenal more viable for Havoc instead of just adding side content to split the player-base of an already dwinling game.

The new activity is feeling a lot more ‘roguelike’ to me, given

Thus I feel this is intended for ‘all players’, verses havoc being a mode pretty much strictly for those in the highest of high tier. A new player uses it as a way to learn things at a more even pace/have things handed to them one at a time so they can try it out, where as the vet players can remind themselves what being a true tiny feels like and actually having a ‘progression’ loop again, even if it just gets reset each time.

Could be reading into it wrong, will have to see with the up coming dev blogs, but that’s the feeling I get from it and think it will be interesting. I like my build crafting though so not sure it will be anything more than a passing thing for me, but at least it does seem like it’s intended for the entire playerbase!

Ogryn update has me intrigued though, I very much am interested to see if feedback has been received, or in what ways it’s been implemented. I hope for the best for the big man!

(Havoc updates are Havoc updates, unless the systems around it are being touched, I sadly can’t really be to excited about new modifiers or anything. People are still not gonna be playing it, but I’m desperately hoping ‘we reassessed the ranking system’ means ‘we removed the anti fun deranking process/made it so it only deranks you if you don’t clear your rank by the end of the week’, I’d very much like to host games without being punished for it before I care about the mode in general. So will ‘hope’ there too!).

It doesn’t help that they seem to have forgotten all about Special Assignments. It seemed like that was the way they intended to “advance the story” in the sort of real-time fashion they talked about at launch.

But it seems like they might well have dropped that idea entirely for whatever reason. It’s been well over a year since it came out and you’d expect somewhere around 3 or so each year to keep it fresh, keep people interested, and keep the narrative rolling. In addition, ever since Clandestium Gloriana at least, the missions have been taking on more of a specific story tone rather than the generic setting that the main missions were supposed to be. They might well be moving at least some of the stuff intended for Assignments just into the ordinary missions.

It’s a little weird that their vision for the game keeps shifting so wildly.

Not to mention having Rolling Steel be an “Operation” instead of a “Special Assignment”.

Ermergerd!

Sounds like my psycher endless arena mode (or very similar) is coming true!! And Oggy rework?! Ermergerd!

I haven’t seen that turn of phrase in so long I thought you were shouting “Emerged!” like you just tunneled out of the ground.

Crap, yeah. And they talked about adding Operations as the fast-paced, shorter and more jam-packed with action versions of regular missions.

But now we still have only one and they’ve already moved on and added two more game modes now. I suppose they can update all 3 in parallel, but it kind of feels like a clutter of half-finished systems, doesn’t it?

(I remember thinking that Dukane would be the Operations manager when they added her under-construction area to the Star. Never thought she’d be a whole 'nother mode entirely. And now we’ve moved on and forgotten Operations.)

Ah, well. I don’t mean to come off so negative. Here’s hoping this new mode is fun whatever it turns out to be.

It’s my very excited noise lol

Seems like an interesting gamemode. Curious to see how Slabs will be fixed and varied.

Best way I’ve seen this kind of thing implemented was in Bastion’s Who Knows Where trials - you get the loot as you progress through the stages, and every wave you clear you get a bit of story about the character the dream is themed around.

The problem isn’t necessarily that the Mourningstar’s crew is terribly written, I certainly think they have room to be interesting, the problem is that we don’t have any personal interest in them. With Bastion’s dreams and Vermintide’s Lohner Journals, the characters we play as know each other and the supporting characters personally, and so we have more reason to care about them.

When you’re just a cog in the machine to a disinterested management, you don’t care about the management, because they don’t care about you. That’s the experience we get in Darktide.

More wasted dev time

I really… really don’t want to play Rolling Steel 30 more times to get the “Complete 50 Operation Missions” penance.

I admire the novelty they’re trying to bring here, but it feels like we’re lacking the brass-tacks content that’s suppose to leverage these new systems.

I mean, when they said “We’re doing modular level design, so we can make more levels” I expected more levels. When they said “We’re redecorating old levels to make more levels” I expected more levels. When they said “We’re creating a map type specifically for shorter, more cinematic levels” I expected more levels.

Where are the levels, fatshark? They don’t all have to be one-upping jaw-droppers, give us more Ascension Risers and Excise Vaults to fill the gap between Clandestine Glorianas and Dark Communions. Hell, add a modifier that mirrors maps and I’d be happy.

I can only hope this new mode is where all the levels went.

I’m a little disappointed that didn’t pan out as planned either.

One of the reasons I speculate they moved away from “overlapping maps to make level creation easier” plan was all the negative feedback they got about it on these forums. I didn’t mind it if it meant more maps and faster, but there were a lot of complaints on these forums about that.

EDIT:

Heck yeah. Call it Tzeentchian Mirror and I’d play it. Sounds neat and like it’d be a bit uncanny.

“A few” balancing changes isn’t enough, havoc will never be fun unless the balance of the game is completely overhauled. You can’t make an extra super duper hard mode in a game where half the abilities do nothing and half turn the game off, and where you have weapons that can screen wipe/1 shot every enemy along with weapons that are basically unusable

That could actually be pretty fun.

I mean, they did do this for the last map, so they’ve not completely moved away. I just can’t help but wonder if they don’t have enough level designers. The work they make is great, but the output feels sooo slow. Probably my Gamer Entitlement acting up. I mean, I’ve built levels myself so I know it takes a long time, so perhaps I’m being unreasonable.

Hopefully trials is actually fun cuz havoc aint it and hi shock missions are boring with a competent team. I dont have any reason whatsoever to spend 50 minutes in a havoc 40 missions I just have no desire to put myself through that. Also I pray we get more weapons in general and especially for ogryn. I desperately want a new psyker staff. For the love of god No more gun psyker weapons. Please give staff psykers something new to play with its been more than two years with the same 4 staffs.

Yeah, Havoc needs some fundamental changes. But I don’t mind them addressing the more pressing pain points (The leveling/deleveling system, party finder) and hopefully taking a stab or two at rebalancing the overtuned weapons/abilities as a stopgap.

Plus, new modifiers might be a step closer to their promise of requiring different builds/teams to beat different levels. But I worry these new mods will be closer to the existing mods instead of real game changers. Hopefully we get “Scab Melee Only” at least. Guess time will tell.
