Amd GPU crashes in loading/ending screens

Also, this is advice I’ve received from an AMD representative previously:

Might be that Windows “updates” (replaces) the AMD driver with one from the Windows update after the crash. To disable that behavior follow these steps:

Control Panel → System → Advanced System Settings → Hardware tab → Device Installation Settings → Select “No” → Save Change

Changing this setting didn’t work for the AMD 24.10.1 driver; the game still crashes. I’ll switch back to 23.11.1 and continue testing.

For anyone else that had trouble finding this on windows 11 you can find it by searching for “view advanced system settings” in the start menu. Not sure if it’s different on 10. Clicking on system in control panel opened the system → about page in the modern settings menu which has advanced system settings in the related links section under device specifications.

EDIT: See my comment further down for a better guide

I should maybe write out everything I did better, sorry.

The chipset update I did previous to all this but I should mention one weird thing. I found my chipset drivers through AMDs driver search page but one of the drivers it wanted to install was an earlier version. By default every driver to install was selected and when I moused over one of them it had a popup saying that it’s already on a newer version and to leave it selected if I wanted to downgrade. I deselected it. Unfortunately I don’t recall which one.

Now to start, I turned Darktide’s steam cloud off, disconnected my internet, and then deleted the local steam cloud files for the game by going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\account#\1361210 and deleting everything inside (1361210 is Darktide’s steam app ID, you can check this by going to the store page and looking at the URL). I leave this off now to guarantee a blank slate but it does mean some settings like hotkeys aren’t saved between reinstalls. All character/progression data is stored on Fatshark’s servers anyway. I then deleted the games Appdata folder, you probably know where this is now.

I also cleared Windows DirectX cache through the storage settings by going to settings → system → storage → cleanup recommendations → see advanced options. I cleared all of the options already toggled but you probably only need the DirectX one. Do not click the Downloads option in this because it clears your personal download folder.

I used the most recent version of DDU (in safe mode of course, and not the one with networking) and in the DDU options I made sure the option to prevent driver downloads from windows updates was turned on (In the advanced options section at the bottom). You’ll also need the full driver download from AMD instead of the autodetect utility which needs internet.

When finished with DDU and back in normal windows (still disconnected from the internet) I installed my drivers. One more restart and then I turned my internet on and validated the games files to restore the appdata folder.

I’m still getting this issue.

I just tried a full reinstall of the AMD drivers using the cleanup utility linked above and selected “No” in Device Installation Settings as AMD suggested, so I’m hoping that will help.

Oops, forgot to respond to this thread. I actually made a more in depth guide in the performance feedback section of the forum, including some windows settings I recommend changing beforehand that may get in the way of it being fixed properly.

After updating to AMD’s latest stable driver version 25.3.1, the game still crashes during the settlement phase of every third match. I have reported a considerable number of MEMORY.DMP crash dump files to AMD, but the issue remains unresolved. To enjoy playing Darktide, I still need to use the older driver (23.11.1).
