A way to make Plasma Gunners more visible

I did a thing. It’s just a quick 3D model with emission in a generic background.

But look, put a big, glowing Chaos sigil on their back. The asset is lying around as a decoration in most levels, this will instantly be unique and make their presence clear, it’s loreful. Seems like an easy option to me.

And while we’re on the topic; what if they randomly blew up? Like they have a, I dunno, 5% chance to explode every time they fire. They could play the same animation that the player does when they overload their Plasma Gun. And then they explode, perhaps even knocking back or killing other enemies near them. It’d, again, be loreful, and help with managing them, since if you can kite them long enough eventually they’ll destroy themselves. It will help to balance their sheer level of power. Again, existing assets could be re-purposed.

Maybe “steam” could vent from their plasma gun?

Its tough because the faction is Nurgle, so everything is a bountiful shade of green. Mobien 6th are considered chaos cultists so perhaps chaos symbols could work. A banner of some sorts above them, shogun style with a cult symbol. Darktide does have multiple symbols sprawed out around atoma to choose from.

Even the darktide boardgame has cultist with banners for backpacks. So I do think when a squad of these plasma wielding maniacs spawn, one of them with a banner could indicate they are here.

AS far as ingame visuals.. Vets do have an ability to highlight(not that you see it more than twice out of every 100 games), as well as everyone with ping. Adding more visual “noise” in a game with bodyparts flying around could have the opposite effect.

The guns are considered hazardous but the option to fire a hazard shot is still the users decision, much like the guard with a Plasma gun, in Darktide terms you’d have to get to 100% before that is available and leaving an enemy with a PG for that long is a bigger problem. I don’t think its necessary.

A failed hazard check would be hilarious if it had its own amination to watch.

It already does, if I’m not mistaken, and the shot leaves a huge vapor trial.

Their plasma gun should overheat, forcing them to vent. Shooting their gun while doing so should produce an explosion like it does for Scab/Tox Flamers.
As for it’s attacks, it should have a slightly longer wind up time and gunner dmg resistance should be applicable.
