A thread for fantasizing about game features

I’m bored of “update when??” posts. It’s time to engage in wild fantasies about how the game could be made cooler and more enjoyable while we all learn to accept that Fatshark is probably just gonna do whatever they already had planned.

Trying to avoid the obvious ones:

-AdMech class with deployable servo skull that can be outfitted for different roles (gun, healing, auto tag specials, team buffs, etc)

-Arbites class. Game has no actual tank class atm aside from maybe shield Ogryn. Could also come with a horde stumble shout ult like merc Kruber or witch hunter Saltz, also funny banter as they are stuck working with convicts

-Background choices in character creation effect character voice lines, provide minor passive buffs, serve any purpose besides being immediately forgettable fluff

-Weapon mods. At the very least let me pick between a flashlight and a bayonet on lasguns and autoguns, come on FS

-Flare pickups in lights out missions

-Lights out missions aren’t dark the whole way through, instead there are random power outages and dark sections of the map

-Nurgling swarms

-Randomized debris and cover placement to create variety in maps

-Abandon the plot point that all PCs are conscripted prisoners after a while to make adding a wider variety of classes that might need some shoehorning to fit with the framing device easier (see admech and arbites classes)

-Personal quarters on the Mourningstar (alternative for players who don’t like the shopping mall, or just a place to display collectibles and have some visual progression like the keep in VT2)

Smelter worked this way, where two sections were fully lit by the burning slag, but I don’t know if it was a bug or not. I hope we see more maps that are partially lit like that though, it adds better atmosphere than just dark or not dark the whole way through.

As a VT2 vet, this picture pleases me to no end in both agreement and pain

Actual map selection.

A chaos wastes variant, I thought CW was them just experimenting for Darktide. Actual modifiers and scrap the whole stupid global event garbage.

More map randomization in general, I thought they were going to go with tilesets for maps which would have made a lot more sense than this simple rehashing of levels. (BUT IN REVERSE! :open_mouth: ) Obviously have general templates but having a ‘smelter’ area template, an ‘outdoor’ template, etc, with some shared between them.

P2P as an option.

Favor balanced classes during matchmaking. (AKA try to balance having 1 of each class if possible)

Wait for full team during matchmaking. (Or at the least wait for one other human player)

Probably other things I’m forgetting.

Thought I was the only person who got this impression from early word on this game.

It would make a lot of sense too, hives are giant patchwork amalgamations of different construction templates. They could have designed a system to make each level a series of randomly connected rooms and hallways working within a set theme, call it “Hab Block [random numbers and letters] and boom, your team is getting sent “somewhere in Tertium”, synergy of systems and narrative complete.

Instead we just run through the same levels with some variation in destination and direction. Huge missed opportunity.

What I would love to see is for missions to have more diverse objectives and to actually feel like a legitimate task, instead of just repeating the same linear formula and combination of hacks, or container hauling, or pustoule busting.

Deep Rock Galactic has great examples: escorting a mining rig, finding and repairing broken cargo haulers (mollys), building a pipeline network, etc.

Payday 2 would be another good example - not the stealth missions, but just in terms of having the mission be a sequence of unique and interesting tasks to do, breaking into a vault, hacking a network to get past a certain security thing, collecting and transporting loot, etc. Something you engage you in a bit of a puzzle while simultaneously fighting you way through.

I’d really like to see some proper end game content. Penances that award cosmetic for doing each level at difficulty 4 and 5 a certain number of times to get actually cool cosmetics.

Special awards/tokens that scale based how well you did and taking on additional challenges.

I’d love to see something similar to Chaos Waste in terms of more randomized subtle effects or mutators happening in missions, paired with some interesting power ups that you could acquire during the mission. Something to make more variety in the missions.

More classes. I don’t even or want more sub-classes below these archetypes. Just go wild. Servitors, death cult assassin, skitteri, arbiters, etc.

Something to make your characters background choices actually matter and tie into the narrative.

I hope they add a kind of cross over between Deep Dives from Deep Rock Galactic and Chaos Wastes from Vermintide 2. Unlike Chaos Waste you would use your already collected gear and not have to start over every run. The mission could be an assault on another hive city totally lost to Chaos.

It frustrates me how lazy fatshark is with darktides level design and level events. They’ve shown they can make dynamic, interesting levels, river reik in VT1 was fantastic, as was the courier.

I’d absolutely love some more dynamic or interactive level elements. We’re meant to be in the middle of a corrupted hive city battleground, occasional distant gunfire or ships flying overhead, chaos in distant parts of the level we can’t access instead of them being barren backdrops. Have an ending sequence where we’re getting horribly overrun but an inquisition ship comes in and stomps everything before extraction like the Athel Yenlui ending. Just a couple of things off of the top of my head, anything to make it feel more like an active battleground that’s just been flooded by chaos, not an empty city that blobs of soldiers just appear into.

Enforcer class with a cyber mastiff. Doing contracts for the ordo xenos to kill genestealer cultists and missions for local governors and the enforcers to kick around underhive gangers would be cool. I can’t think of the name of them, but there are these giant insects(a bit bigger than ogryns) that naturally burrow which had been used in the deep hives to dig tunnels that still roam there, from what i understand, and might make cool monster encounters. I also require meltas.

For Lights Out missions, enemies having flashlights or flaming torches.

Character swap without reload in Mourningstar (And you stay in the same spot) and the ready up screen.

The mission where you’re securing the shipping station would be ideal for this. Imagine if the onslaught just got heavier and heavier as the timer ticked down, and right at the end, when it looked like all was lost, support gunships show up and just shred everything.

It’d be awesome.

Wouldnt have to be biblical undertakings to add something nice.

Add autoblock on chat we have in VT2.
Share loot/item progression between characters.
Give us a way to pick missions.
(Dont us the “lore” crap to excuse horrible design choices. You found a way to make Kruber a GrailKnight and got the okay from GW for that move. Having actual mission selection is childsplay compared to that level of rules lawyering.)

  • make the energy cells throw work like the barrels from Vtide and not the frustrating weird way it jump then stop and fall nearly right back.

  • Have bot getting stuff based on the difficulty level (I guet they can’t equiped them based on the host other caracters as you wouldn’t have an host) or the medium level of the others players. And an actual way to interact with bot so they can grab book and consomable.

Chaos wastes type expeditions from vermintide 2.
The chaos wastes was the only thing keeping V alive for me. Got like 100 hours on it while only like 20-ish in the “main” game.

I want WoM style challenge runs with leaderboards. Just… with less abrupt difficulty spikes…

Well, before they start to think about additions, I just want them to finish “whatever they already had planned” cause actually we are waiting that.

After that, I would have loved:

  • weapon mods as you said
  • armors parts that change your appearance with the possibility to put a specific cosmetic instead of the general appearance of your armor. Armors would have effect on your protection (for appearance a similar system of the lasts assassin’s creed)
  • new maps / new missions
  • for future DLCs, new environnements with new enemies (Ork by example or tyranids).
  • I would have prefered a system of “main weapon” / “sidearm”. This would allow to get a big weapon (heavy sword, rifle etc.) and a small weapon (dagger, revolver etc.)
  • About classes, I only see grey knights as a potential new class… a class between the psyker and zealot. Not sure what arbites could bring to the game
  • more conditions for missions, I like the idea of dark places on a map. It already actualy exists in several missions. But it would be great to see sections of a map without any light. As conditons I would see something like
    • no elite but hordes that keep coming
    • “only scab”
    • “only dregs”
    • no ammo (every player starts with an ammo crate and several can be looted on the map)
    • giants: enemies have a large part of bulwarks, crushers, reapers and pest ogryn
    • corruption: more you stay on the map, more the corruption is hitting you. mean you have a to go fast
    • from behind: low intensity in front of you… but 5 minutes after the mission starts, a massive horde come from behind you… horde is stopped when you reach the place where you have to hack something
    • only elites: name says it all

There is some that I’m very much against:

Should be taken by a future Zealot Class, with Crusader, but giving a Zealot Cosmetic being an Arbites later on

All cosmetic choices should be cosmetic and nothing else, other wise we’re going to have Cadian player in even greater proportions

The Admech one can still be done with the current ones, just have the Archetype be a Tech Adept/Menial, and keep in mind that the Class is what you become while joining the Warband

So you’d have a Tech Adept who would become a Pseudo Skitarius, a Reclaimator…

As personally:

Close time (3-6 month):

  • Some of the leaked Weapon: Longlas, 2h Force Sword, 2h Power Sword, 2h Chain Axe, Shock Maul, Melta
  • Chaos Spawn Monster
  • Plaguebearer Elite (Vox)
  • 1st Class (Vet or Ogryn)
  • Psyker Rework
  • Crafting
  • Secondary mission rework¹ and Melk’s mission²
  • Maps

Long Time (6+ month)

  • More classes
  • More Maps
  • More weapons
  • More Modes¹¹
  • More enemy factions³

1 Secondary Mission rework:

  • Grim: Give it an auditive clue, which is much more noticeable than the Tome one (Louder than the wisper, maybe some type of Nurgling chanting and stuff
  • Tome: Give it an auditive clue that is different from the whispers, maybe a static beep, or let us use Auspex to find them
  • New: Totem: Maps has X totems that are guarded by the Dreg and the Scabs, just have to destroy them, auditive clue
  • New: Ritual: Certain area have glowing circles, those can be banished by standing in it, optional

2 Melk rework:

  • Common currency (All of them) and missions (But more sets of missions so you still get bonuses for accomplishing sets)
  • Taking out task that are tied to secondary mission on specific maps
  • Secondary Missions task change into 2 set:
  • Research: Combine Tomes and Grims, with individual Grims counting as 2 Tomes
  • Deamon Bane: Destroy Totems and Rituals, Rituals count for X Totems

11 More modes, like in VT2:

  • Chaos Waste like
  • Horde like (Trial of Foolhardy and Trial of War), but improved to have buildable stuff and Chaos Waste upgrades, even a classement/season system

3 More enemy factions:

  • Slaaneshi Cult: Daemonettes, Fiends, Sonic cultist
  • Khornate Cult: Bloodletters, Hounds of Khorne ?, Corpse Grinder Cult/Enforcer
  • Tzeentchian Cult: Horrors, Flamer of Tzeentch (Monster), Psyker Coven
