A Special Psyker Build

I decided that I’m just not great at the “standard” psyker builds, so I decided to make something closer to my own style…

So far, it works fine in Tier 4, but is best suited for Tier 3  Let me know what you think

I think if you’re using a gun, you wanna do Scrier’s Gaze. Ideally, you’ll want to be putting out a lot of damage with your gun, and save Smite for situations where you’re cornered and there’s no other way to create space. With the build you have set up here, it seems like the intent is to just constantly use Smite with Venting Shriek, and I think that’s going to build a bad habit that you should nip in the bud.

Some of the perks you’ve selected also don’t really make sense to me - there are better options available. Chainswords already have a lot of stamina to work with, and the IAG reloads fast enough on its own that extra reload speed won’t matter too much.

I’ve made an edited version of this build for you to check out. I wanted to try keeping the same idea while making it more powerful and viable for higher difficulties. The major changes include:

  • Using Scrier’s Gaze to juice your gun even more
  • Curio perk shuffling (stamina is more useful than you think!)
  • Swapping around less powerful talents for more powerful ones

Try it out and see how it feels compared to your current build!

Why Precognition? That will force me more over to the melee side of things, and psykers are not that tough to begin with

Precognition is simply BiS for when you have to use your melee, assuming you can hit the head reliably. You won’t have to very often, but it’s useful for Mutants and the occasional Crusher that corners you.

Oh, my apologies. I thought you were referring to the blessing, but I forgot that it’s a talent on the tree as well.

Note that it doesn’t specify melee - it mentions weakspot kills, plain and simple. This means you can gain stacks with a gun. However, considering Scrier’s Gaze is being used here, you will be melee-ing a lot more to save ammo on trash mobs, which is part of why I put Savage Sweep on the chainsword - it instantly lets you max out your crowd control, and should allow you to stay in Gaze for enough time to max it out, while tearing things up.

Psyker’s innate fragility is being mitigated by the fact that we take four +15 Toughness nodes on the tree, on top of having curios to bolster it. Additionally, as you get more skilled in melee combat, you’ll get hit a lot less often - sometimes you can stand in front of an entire horde chopping them up without even getting hit once!

I have no intention of being locked in melee, or going toe to toe with heavy hitters, so I’ll swap Precognition for Reality Anchor, giving me a bit more time to run the effect… Purloin Providence is nice, but getting stacks is super easy already, so it gets swapped for Endurance… Then I get 20% toughness damage reduction for as long as Scrier’s Gaze is running

You cannot avoid melee, you will have to do it. Staying away from the heavy hitters is a good idea in melee anyways unless you’re a Zealot or Ogryn, but if you’re running a gun you will need to use your melee weapon to help clear hordes in order to have some ammo efficiency.

Dropping Cruel Fortune for TDR in Gaze is fine.

The gun clears the hordes faster than the chainsword hehe

And then you run out of ammo and wonder why you died to a couple of crushers or that plague ogryn.
