A 40k lore and l33tpcgamer nerd's actually impressed beta opinions

First FatShark game (fantasy is garbage, so I haven’t played vermintide).

I see plenty of people complaining about this and that, “ohh tencent, game is sht” “ohh this is boring there’s nothing to do, i’m done” etc. It’s like people nowadays are learned to the ‘new’ beta type “betas” that are actually just paid for pre-release sessions…this is a real beta in my opinion. It’s a small slice of the game to a larger portion than normal. It’s not a pre-sale carry over your playtime scheme. This is a test on a larger scale than they normally have…and it went better than many AAA games normal launches have done in the past ~4 years.

and Tencent doesn’t immediately mean garbage, they’re a corporation yes, it’s china, yes, but they want to make money…they want the stuff they purchase to keep thriving. Look at PoE as an example.

TLDR; Good jarb FatShark.

Opinions below (i’ve already posted bugs and stuff elsewhere):

Overall, great beta experience.

Connection

  • Had very few ‘in-mission’ disconnects. Most disconnects from server were either after a mission finished or while in the common area.
  • Getting back into your party was EASY after a disconnect.
  • I experienced ZERO latency issues…I’m curious if this a shared thought.
  • Zero latency…it’s great. It means no rubber banding, no sketchy falls or getting stuck on random areas for no reason, no wonky random hitbox issues, no ammo/reloading/firing/swinging overlap, nothing latency wise.
  • To be clear, latency is different from connection…I had no lag, but disconnects were consistantly abundant.

Aesthetic

  • Incredibly 40k. Awful cathedral factories that generations of families get consumed inside of. Perfect.
  • A bit too dark everywhere, it’s too difficult to SEE the work you guys have put into this game.
  • The music is PERFECT.
  • I can’t think of any bad sound effects either…the German accented character is kinda rough, but that’s about it.

Favorite part?

  • The banter. The banter and ‘lore’ side of what’s in this game is so spot on. There’s a few inconsistancies, eg: ogrins are a little too smart, psychers are a little too sane, and some of the stuff said to our superiors is immediate termination worthy…but this is so far below the immersion boundary that it’s overlookable.
