The assassin talent does not work with ranged Crits.
16.1k damage with Assassin ranged Crit on Longbow, 17.3k on 7% talent. Just tested it for you.

That’s what I hate about the whole system, unless the weapons with bad CC have been buffed sufficiently you’re still just gimping yourself taking Smiter when you could take a high CC weapon with a large added bonus on top to its damage on all cleaved/CCed targets.
For anyone that uses ranged they’re pushed to either take 7% power for breakpoints OR getting the most out of their melee weapon. Meanwhile against enemies that are already in OHK territory CCing them for added damage is redundant as they’re already dead, buuut enemies that are outside of that range are generally much more CC resistant, so again a weapon without CC isn’t going to benefit there (they can take Smiter at least) but a weapon with great CC (and cleave) is likely going to outdamage them anyway. It makes everything so confusing…
It’s way more complicated than what we had before, it’s not a little bonus, you now have to take into account all the CC breakpoints, whether or not your weapon is going to CC them on the first hit (or you have to enter combat with pushes to get the highest damage out of it).
Sure, most people’ll ignore it at first and won’t look too deep, but I don’t have high hopes for whatever the new meta (both in weapons and combat initiation) is going to be, I imagine it’ll be even more inflexible than before.
It’s almost like Fatshark doesn’t have people who know how to solve balancing issues, or doesn’t have leadership that allows for good changes to occur. There was SO much feedback from the Beta tests about balancing, and all of it was ignored.
Fatshark has, without a doubt, some of the dumbest game designers, or decision makers in the business. I’m very happy to see the community backlash. Maybe they’ll finally start to give a damn just a little.
reverting all game play changes would instantly improve the game
