which is basically why I said come back to it in a few years when the game exists as a released title instead of this aborted early access title and we can talk about enhancing the social systems if its even relevant at that point. I mostly find parties to play with within the match I just played, or rather I would have if the game still had functional social systems for joining squads like it did in Beta. If I like them I will play with them again, if I don’t I will never speak of it to anyone except maybe to laugh at how poorly they preformed.
Firing the lead game designer and hiring one that actually enjoy the game he’s playing would be a good start for an overhaul.
I just wish for the company to go under and someone else to claim their niche. Anyone is fine honestly.
the fact OP said “new biome” instead of new area alone tells me they’re looking at things like they’d work the same as DRG who has an entirely incompatible design philosophy to fatshark’s game engine. you’re likely not going to get much of anything out of xbox crossplay aside from backend error problems getting a lot worse.
…What?
Biome in terms of DT is like the difference between the sewers themed and the sandy themed maps. A new biome in Darktide might be something like a noble’s vast greenhouse which contains gardens and a forest. That is a biome idea that has been suggested many times since launch.
I’d like to see something that is like some of the early exterior concept art atop the hive’s towers and gantries, could get some insane views
Having little minigames in the hub is fun and adds some life to the space, but it’s something that doesn’t need to be a priority feature until the rest of the game is in good shape. It’s like barrel basketball or the jukebox in Deep Rock Galactic, I don’t use them often but sometimes it’s nice to just chill and listen to some music or shoot some hoops for a short distraction in between runs. It’s not much, but it adds a little flavor to an already good experience.
Again though, Darktide has about 1000 things that should be added or fixed before this kind of stuff is even considered as a desirable or meaningful change.
We essentially have 3-4 maps (with different variant end events)
We only have 4 classes that do not have real talent diversity ( down from 15 classes and 90 talents on VT2 launch)
Gear is also kind of a bummer. You can only play so many shades of Axe before you get tired of it.
Doesn’t matter if it’s light heavy medium. It’s an axe.
New faction would defo help: it doesn’t matter if what you hit is yellow or grey, they act exactly the same and pose the same challenges.
Gambling will be the greatest repellent.
God, if only they let us pick map and modifiers, my mates and I would be playing a hell of a lot more instead of “wasting our time” on a regular T5 waiting for a more spicy one to spawn (or not)
Not talking about gear for risk of rage.
Hub is a massive failure.
Where the VT hubs were a great place to exchange, admire drip, and bond with people, in my hundreds of hours in DT, I have NEVER interacted with anyone in the hub.
Anything you do.
Does.
Not.
Matter.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the first 5 maps released were all distinctive in look, so you could actually tell what mission you were in. Next 2 maps, same reused graphical assets again, so looks samey.
VT2 - Yes it had 2 years to get to good state. Each mission has distinct look of environment, little mechanics of switches, escort, throw barrels into pit, that visual wow factor going through skittergate blow up in your face, climbing up vertically around a massive tree, more fun boss battles, the escapes at the end, had so many little mini games in missions to progress. VT2 is a visual feast beyond Darktide’s dark brown stains. VT2 maps are a thing of imaginations.
Yes it took 2 years to get there, doesn’t mean the next game should also take 2 years. 7-8 months in and still the same. Imagine after 1 year. Just too slow in progress.
RPS said it best when they said that Darktide’s entire progression and itemization system needs a full rework, that it should get scrapped and replaced with something else entirely.
VT2 runs on our computers, it doesn’t cost money to maintain. Fatshark needs to pay for continued server costs for Darktide AND for investors AND for development. It would be in their interest to rework the basic functionality of their core progression systems in order to earn back players who will buy things.
I think what would be needed is
- An additional Repair and Investigation map
- A use for Dalamantine
- A 5th Role
- One Sub-job for each role
- A way to reduce RNG in gear creation (Look at #2)
- Rework Blessings so all are more equally important
- Rework Feats to be more balanced (Too many, “only one choice” situations)
- MAKE ICONIC WH40K WEAPONS TOP TIER WEAPONS; like the chain weapons. I want the game play to look like a 40k game while playing.
This is the thing that’s driving me up the wall. Fatshark decided they were going to make a GaaS while…not doing any of the things that make those profitable. Currently, their only revenue stream from this game is cosmetics, which are very overpriced for what they offer and hidden behind a very annoying mobile-game-esque obfuscation.
To answer OP’s question, soft relaunch would hopefully contain the following:
- Map selection
- Nuking the current crafting system from orbit and going back to the originally discussed attachment system, folding weapon ‘variants’ back into that as well
- Turning the monetization in a more positive and player friendly direction, perhaps by making premium cosmetics or Aquilas earnable
- Introducing more game modes, maybe gate some behind monetization if the revenue stream needs augmentation
- An actual story worthy of Dan Abnett being billed as the writer
- New classes
Honestly, Darktide would probably be better off to just let limp along for another year or two and then instead of a relaunch just make Darktide 2. The gap between VT 1 and VT2 was about 2.5-years. And VT2 has now been going 5.5 years. I can’t see DT1 getting the reworks it needs within 2-3 years or ever.
I say this because quite honestly, the stuff that needs to be changed the most (like throwing out crafting and starting over with a better system) is going to be nearly impossible to implement without nuking everyone’s inventory and existing progression. The amount of blowback from that, even if its to get someplace better in the end, would be insane. Fatshark’s nerfs a blessing a people loose their minds, imagine if their inventories they’ve grinded for 100s or 1000s of hours got hammered in some way?
Other things like a total rework of the hub and how players interact in it isn’t likely to change outside of a totally new game launch. Just doesn’t seem like it would be worth the effort with all the other fires raging.
It seems like they tried to make a system for modular and procedural map building, but that didn’t pan out either. Seems like they would need a totally new game to incorporate a procedural element into the map design. Which is crazy, because even VT2 had original game maps where the layouts would vary from run to run. DT didn’t even manage that. My dream would be for a mission to have a 2-3 fixed unique areas for events, and then 2-3 interconnecting areas all procedurally generated from a kit of parts.
Yeah, I’ll pass on this one. I’m not buying another full-priced ‘completed’ FS game, nor participating in their bait & switch cash-grabbing schemes.
I might just join you in that line of thinking as well!
Ultimately, I don’t think Fatshark will re-launch Darktide. And I do genuinely worry about their commitment to improving the game once the console release happens.
I don’t think they’ll ever manage to provide a “live service” for Darktide akin to Deep Rock Galactic or other similar title. Fatshark just isn’t fast and nimble enough to deliver on that. But without a live service to drive player engagement and a provide revenue stream, how long are they going to keep the servers going after the console release?
Vermintide 2 has more potential yet to be realized than DT at the moment. And the player counts would seem to concur.
The game screams: A clueless high-level executive who doesn’t care about gaming at all, salivating at the thought of all the money games like Destiny make, and saying, “let’s do that!” Then haphazardly throwing in every mobile gotcha mechanic Tencent suggested.
My bet is that if they aren’t committed to fixing the game and working with the community now, I highly doubt the Xbox release will change much. They’ll get another boost in sales, and then it’ll be business as usual; minimal effort while milking the whales with overpriced and broken cosmetics. It’s a tale as old as time…
There won’t be any meaningful changes. This game will limp till something like Darktide 2 will be released. Too many decisions are just bad. Or at least, badly implemented. Self made problems are the best problems.
Literally no-one will buy Darktide 2 after this mess, it had 3 interest groups that were anxiously waiting for this game. Tide enjoyers, Warhammer 40k fans and people who like games like L4D. They all got this game and they are all disappointed/abandoned it already as the sad player retention numbers show.
Now since Fatshark doesn’t seem at all concerned with fixing it, i highly doubt they will try the same trick of shitting out a trashfire hoping for the pre-orders, again.
