Solid changes to the Repeater Pistol, Sienna’s Mace, and the War Pick. The elf axe was underwhelming before, so that buff is welcome.
The rest is mostly power creep on weapons most players sleep on but are actually really good. One-handed Axes and Crowbill could use a bit more cleave, sure, but they’re already my go-to on Necro, Unchained, and every Bardin career. The innate +10% crit chance on light attacks alone makes them strong.
One-handed sword, dagger, falchion, elf spear, hagbane, swiftbow, elf greatsword, drakefire pistols, all already really good and didn’t need the help.
Buffing shotguns instead of properly nerfing Griffon Foot is the wrong call. And Axe and Shield was already as good as Hammer and Shield, if not better, and now it’s getting buffed too.
Most of this is just buffing the weapons that newer players sleep on. I guess that’s fine, but for me it’s just a buff to things I already use frequently.
Don’t be afraid to nerf outliers like the invincible dual hammers too! I have 3 questions
When will console get this?
Any plans for Talent rebalancing? Some are strictly useless like the shotgun talent on BH or shove for Slayer. Or just a meme like that one that boosts damage whole airborne for Slayer.
Interesting - with few exceptions it was buffs to things I don’t use much, or the buffs were minor. (Spear, say.) The only ones I was really surprised by were Hagbane, Grudge, Swift. Oh, and Dagger.
Repeater pistol … I’ve been using it in Chaos Wastes recently, and found it surprisingly powerful.
The Chaos Wastes might have buffs that synergize with rapid-fire weapons better. I tried many times to make builds with it for Cata, after they patched the “blessed shots consume no ammo” for the shotgun blast, it became very weak in regular Adventure mode.
This might not be a commonly shared opinion, but I think Crowbill and 1H Axe were very strong. It’s just people didn’t often take advantage of reaching 40% crit chance on light attacks with slayer, or crit power builds. I use 1h axe on Ironbreaker, Slayer and Ranger Vet to great effect. It’s ideal on Ironbreaker when paired with Drakefire Pistols since it’s not a good crowd clearer but it wipes out elites very fast. Same with Sienna and Crowbill, she has a lot of CC and DoT, it synergizes with Necro’s cleaving crits talent and other AOE staves on Pyro and Unchained as well. The 1H Axe definately could use a little extra cleave on light attacks to allow it to be used effectively against larger hordes, but I maintain, before this patch, it was a very viable weapon that synergized with shotguns and AOE weapons.
Wish you could turn auto-zoom off, or it’s disruptive, luckily, I’m working on a weapon tweaker mod which will allow things like this to be toggled off. I’ll take any suggestions too for other toggles.
I have to say, some re-balancing is nice. But some of these changes seem to squarely be aimed at making things easy to use.
Some of the recent changes are just buffing weapons and careers for no good reason other than … well, I honestly think that the dev that is pushing these changes is suffering from skill issues.
engi “re-balance” (read massive buff), now some of these weapons getting massive boosts? Why?
I’ll take a single example. The throwing axes. Why do they have this almost linear heavy throw? Throwing them at a distance was supposed to be a skill, now its just aim a bit higher than the target and done.
Whomever is coming up with these things, go dive into the modded community and listen to them, don’t just dumb down every single career and weapon.
Honestly wondering the damage for the leap talent with the new war pick tbh but yeah that’s a meme talent and I think we’ll get the answer for number 3 at skulls maybe
One of the worst patches ever released, I already made a mod to revert everything done to 1h axes, volley crossbow horizontal spread and empire longbows new zoom.
I switch around between one or two builds per career, going for minimal duplication of weapons. I tried getting 1h axe + throwing axe to work on Slayer, but always got bogged down by hordes. A little extra cleave is the only thing I might have wanted - the damage was great.
(Mincing-machine double axe Slayer is okay, but my old favorite was 2h axe. The problem was, though, that using it felt too meditative. Or maybe like dancing a waltz.)
I’m happy to see an extra dodge on 1 H mace, for consistency/“realism”, the boost to elven GS heavy chaining, and the war pick rework. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone use the WP in an online game.
That seems to be the general theme: In online quickplay, at Legend, I don’t often see some of the weapons buffed, and hardly ever see the rest. Even the ones I don’t think needed buffing.
