Weapon balance feedback (previously focused on one handed axe)

Sorry to be like this, but could you or anyone in this thread point me to the guides or videos showing someone using animation cancelling on the Rapier?

This thread is a first time I’ve heard of it. I know about 2h hammer and wizard mace Q cancelling.

My Hatchet Priest strat: Fiery Faith hits all breakpoints so Charm stats are focused on beefing BoP, because I’m a trash scrub who loves pistols and I don’t care how OP they are.

For talents I take the stamina with FF stacks because all of Salty’s weapons are fairly low stamina, at max stacks this gives hatchet something like a possible 6(ish?) shields of stamina. It’s really not that in-depth of a strategy, you just abuse push-stabs in your attack pattern as often as you want during hordes because everything is literally dying in 2 hits. Obviously not the GOAT of Zealot strategies, but it’s very viable and fun if you like the challenge. No headshot or crit fishing needed (but you will catch both just because of how this weapon works).

You have a good point, I’d like to know this too - halberd does indeed benefit from cancelling, but afaik rapier doesn’t.

Perhaps cancelling to counteract the low-angle heavies? I can see those being annoying to aim/HS with.

We were talking rapier not hatchet there.

People using the hatchet is logical to me as it’s actually balanced (unlike A&F), it’s merely not a weapon I enjoy on Saltz (mainly WHC and BH). I’ll use it from time to time on IB on the other hand.

Zealot also has the advantage of AS on his ult, that and SS help compensate for hatchet’s 2.55 cleave vs hordes.

iirc it’s something about the 3rd light attack not being as good as the first two, but with the fast attack speed of the rapier you’d have to be the number one tryhard ever to actually bother with it.
I could be wrong tho.

Yeah, I recall that too, but using it now it’s identical to 1/2 in cleave/mass etc., and is more of a low, wide sweep than they are so you’d think it’s better for hordes. Maybe it’s worse for HS fishing? I don’t know…

Yeah I think it’s mainly because it’s harder to land headshots with it, but again, I could be wrong.
I don’t really enjoy the animation cancelling in general. Even on halberd (one of my most used weapons) the benefit is not enough to make me bother with it, it performs perfectly fine without it.

Ooooh! Yeah, rapier on zealot is extremely rough. Can understand doing it for a challenge run, but oof.

People aren’t doing it because it is so annoying to do. But it is best patern you can get from rapier. You have headshot multiplier, but you cannot get hedshot with swing that goes from bottom.

And somewhere on the steam guides (I am not gonna search for it) you can find that noted. And you could also found that in VT1 guides. It is not necessary thing, but definetly a better choice. (Min maxing)

So, I play on Xbox, aka the land of no macros, no quality of life mods, and much harder head-shots (and a much harder game in general). As such, I have a bit of a skewed sense of weapon use. Given this, the axe gets a bit leg up over some of the other weapons, especially the rapier, as its move-set is easy to learn and you don’t have “trouble” with specific enemies – it will kill everything without having to learn specific move sets or attack patterns, or do any block cancelling. Plus it has a straight-forward move set. Its a great weapon for those new to the game.

I do nudge those who ask toward the flail as its shield-ignoring abilities are great. Most new people have the most trouble with shielded blackrats, and the flail deletes them like no-ones business. In a party if four people, SOMEONE will have horde clear capabilities, but not everyone will specialize in deleting shielded enemies.

Rapier takes waaaay to much finesse on the console for it to be a viable choice outside of the most practiced of individuals.

Again, in every party, SOMEONE will have a horde clear weapon, and because the 2-handed sword has too many disadvantages against armored enemies, I steer people away from that.

Can’t decide? Take teh falchion. Its a solid choice and the best all around weapon.

From above, the game gives you choices when you start out, even on the more rigid, more difficult console. Of course, if the new person gets Ubersreik and grinds out the A&F, all the fun goes away…

(With A&F, take A&F unless you REALLY hate shielded blackrats, then consider flail.)
