Look my dude, this may be a problem for you, your wife and your buddies, but I promise you on regular maps lack of ammo isn’t a big issue unless you’re wasteful and/or want the game to be something it’s not, and it sounds like you do and are.
Despite their similarities VT2 and DT are quite different in the end, with DT density being cranked (ha) to 11 but power creep also a thing. Crankgun also had downtime and had to pull melee out plenty, it’s not an ammo based weapon. You can do the same with a Psyker so let’s compare apples to apples, and it’s likely you’re comparing Legend to Damn HiSTG here. You can easily get what you’re looking for in regular Damnation or Heresy, massive ranged uptime while consuming ammo; go nuts! You CAN choose to play it in “pure shooter” mode, it sounds like y’all choose not to.
Absolutely you do but you also posted it publicly, in general no less, and your experience is the outlier here, so getting pushback is not unwarranted or unexpected.
Possible Hurt Feelings ahead
And not to be that guy, but I will point out the elephant in the room: couples that typically play together are very often the definition of casual, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but one is always far more casual than their spouse and it sounds like you’re biased because of it. I’ve played with quite a few couples over the decades and that’s never not been the case.
my friend. melee weapons are more versatile you can not mag dump everything and assume to go through the game normally.
and by no means is this a hybrid combat game in the inventory screen melee weapons are still referred to as “primary” and ranged weapons as “secondary”
you have to learn how to use melee this is literally the continuation of the melee games
they didn’t decide anything, they gave you their advice. if you decide to play darktide, you have have to accept that darktide is a melee-focused first person game, and if you constantly run out of ammo in normal gameplay and others don’t, then your ammo usage might be suboptimal.
The ammo restritrction on Havoc is indeed stupid as it forces you to use certain guns on Vet, unless you enjoy sitting on 0 ammo while waiting for the ammo aura CD.
It needs to be done because other certain guns turn the game difficulty off with 100% ammo. All there is to it. This is the end result of the “never nerf anything” idea.
Dude if you have a problem with ammo in this game you must be like a malice noob who wastes ammo on everything all game. The only time I ever even remotely get low on ammo is if im playing with a gunlugger whose taking all the ammo or I forget to grab ammo cuz my guns ammo efficient and were half way through the mission and im now low or im playing ogryn and the vet on my teams not running survivalist. Rarely ever is ammo an issue in this game and far too many weapons are ammo efficient for this to be a major problem. There is ammo everywhere in yellow crates all over the map and there are 2 ammo crates with 8 charges in them on the map as well. That doesnt include yellow crates by med stations. Aint no way you play this game at a high level and ammo is an issue to you. Are you only ever playing with krak grenade fire team noob veterans who dont play with survivalist? Even one survivalist vet breaks ammo mattering in this game and thats if you dont have two of them. Even when I use too much ammo certain weapons are so ammo efficient that one big ammo pack and im good.
