I will return^^
They gotta make playable first.
Yep. In the meantime, we should thank the whales who will keep this ramshackle raft afloat long enough for FS to fix it up for us normal and decent people to enjoy. It’ll take about two years time probably.
Dead Space remaster drops at 11 AM EST. It sits at #1 best selling game currently, it will absolutely destroy the player population in Dark Tide.
Dark Tide was fun for a while, then the bugs got in the way, then Fat Shark thought they could ignore things. Will things be better later after Dead Space calms? Nope. Because another blockbuster game is getting remaster, The Last of Us. Who’s going to want to return to an unfinished game when older games are being updated and new releases have more quality? Not many people, that’s who.
Emperor’s gifts are all crap anyway imo.
Too many decisions are so poorly thought out that I wonder what kind of Senior designer/Lead designer greenlit those.
I’m not sure how one could even remotely come across that statement when you can literally empty the entire cash shop for less than a hundred bucks, while there’s games out there, where you get a wet handshake for double or triple that.
Also, all these bulletins are kinda funneling towards “So that more whales pass the cosmetic shop”.
I don’t think I’ve ever thought about “Should I click the cosmetic shop, maybe? Perhaps?” just because I kept running past it. You know it’s there, it’s not going to magically poof in the warp, buy something, or don’t. If you feel like it’s compulsory, you should seek therapy or something, idk.
Why has bootlicker become some trendy buzzword to throw around in completely inappropriate circumstances? It’s following the same vein as strawman. At least more people know what bootlicking is, as opposed to strawmanning, but nevertheless, the internet really can’t resist ruining terms huh?
In addition to bug fixing and reworking the progression systems to eliminate or greatly reduce RNG, I think to get new players back you need both of the following:
(1) New content - specifically a free “mini expansion” (ideally this would be a new map with 3-5 missions assigned to it and a new set of classes for each character)
(2) A new system for earning premium cosmetics - eg completing missions gives you some minor amount of Aquilas, but you can eventually save up for fancy cosmetics. Or rework the weekly missions and have that currency be another way to buy cosmetics.
In short, to intixe players back you need to finish and fix the base game, give a modest amount of free new content, and provide a better hook to keep people playing after.
To keep the new players engaged you need REGULAR PATCHES both with balance and tweaks to keep things fresh (once a month Minimum) and regular content. I do like the seasons system from DRG as a way to reward play time.
from a business pov - and i’m not a business man - i’d say they have less to zero interest in getting players back. What they want is sale more copies.
who cares if someone who bought the game, maybe even preordered doesnt come back. They have that money and ko they are maybe potential customers for new cosmetics, but the chances are small the leavers were ever or become the buyers of cosmetics old or new.
They rework the progression system - and we dont know anything how that will look like - for the people that are still playing to not lose more and more over time.
We the actual players are playing, but they know they need to change things, because the amount of players who wouldnt leave over time if everything stays how it is is smaller than the actual playerbase that also contains of brand new players. Just read about players that joined some days ago.
My guesses are:
They will give us more ressources to less frustratingwhen we consecrat an item, but makes it even more crappy than it already was. Or more bad when it was decent at least.
They will maybe do something about the Weapons in the shop and make them more worthy, both for hourly and Melk, but the system will stay like it is, just the Weapons will be better and you can maybe reset the shop for Ordo Dockets or something like that.
Then we will get complete crafting with an overhaul and make it less RNG and painfull.
Maybe no locks when refined.
And then we will get some season or battlepass thing with free and paid cosmetics to earn. It’s what so many games do successfully and i cannot believe they wont.
And with that we get a new Map and a new class. The BP will stay for some month and when the Season 2 starts we get another Map and another class and so on.
With some luck we will get Weapon leveling, changes to the Missionboard later this year or next year.
I may be wrong, but i was often right when i assumed stuff like this.
And people will hate it and go on complaining and hating, but the game will sell and the cosmetics and seasonal stuff will sell and that is all they need.
happy customers are returning customers,
its a poor plan if you only aim for a product to sell well, you also gotta think about your next product.
Thy planned to support DT long time.
Do you know when Sea of Thieves started?
Barebone with very less content, but at least some cosmetics to earn ingame and no Shop. Much complains and hate, game crap, no content, bad performance, ctd all the time people said.
Quarterly Events that were fun 2-3 days when released, then the sea became calm again for weeks and month. Lots of PvP griefing, whining from both sides, PvE and PvP . Bad pvpers the one, no sheep the other. End of year new small, but dangerous Region. Bugs could make you lose the effort of many hours, but nontheless people had fun.
After a year Anniversary Update, 10 Million copies sold, new stories, more sheep.
The year passed, iirc new contracts for the merchants faction nobody liked and had only one kind of contract until. Year two was great, another PvP faction introduced and a new mode called Arena. More story chapters, more Sailors, more sheep, more PvP in Arena and Sandbox/ Adventure Mode. 20 Million copies sold, ah and new Shop, more cosmetics, more charity marketing like lgbtq, breast c4ncer and alike, pets got sold, only fluff No real mechanics than Dancing around, not cheapy selled Well, pets cosmetic Sets Like 10 bucks etc, Ship Sets 40 bucks, more Pirate cloth…
25 Million players had bought/ played Sea of Thieves. Gamepass included.
Year 3 a battlepass was introduced, more stuff to buy, weekl, grinds, seasonal grinds, overall grinds.
Some were rich af Like 100 or 200 Millions and 10th of thousands the second currency you could also buy for real Money in year 2 iirc, there were already 2 currencies ingame and a third for mtx, but then they released a dope PvP set nobody could afford because it was hunderts of millions. The richtest people could buy 1-3 pieces of the entire Ship set that is 6 pieces. Sails were not OP, but helpfull in PvP Like you see more at the Helm when sails were set straight forward, else you need to leave Helm or have a spotter.
Maybe i remember some things different, was an Alpha Tester and Founder, my Crew still sails and its year 5 or 6 even, i stopped Season two of the BP and they are in S8 afaik. Great Game, excelente monetization, big success for Rare and it started Like its still in alpha with barebone content and few Things to do.
See, i dont say this is what DT will be, but you can guess the route they want to take imho.
And i hope they make it tbh.
ok.
As a whale I heartily disagree. I’m greatly displeased with a product - most of the payed cosmetic is low effort clipping mess, or look absolutely ridiculous. And i’m a whale that like play particular class, but that class keeps getting mindlessly nerfed nerfed and nerfed with occasional bone thrown it’s way - whale shows the shark his massive middle finger.
I’m ready to throw cash at the screen, but this product have yet to prove that it’s worth it. I’ll go litter with cash somewhere else, while fish thinks about new ways to nerf psykers.
Well said.
I too won’t be throwing any more money at Fatshark until they make the game enjoyable and rewarding first.
