Unfinished concepts? Deliberate restriction of player choice and control? I don't understand

Bump.

Excellent Feedback. Can’t wait for FatShark to “Have seen and taken in” your valuable contribution.

Sadly, Darktide seems to be a Train on single tracks to nowhere. Too many areas of the game need fixing. What am I saying, it would need to be rebuilt from the ground up to address core problems in design and execution, a lot of which you mentioned.

I’m of little hope. I’ll enjoy the gameplay for a while longer, then forget about this game until two years later. If my friend doesn’t reel me back occasionally. VT-Crackhead, that one… ^^

My review specifically lists many grievances of the game at the moment…

The visuals are stunning, the gameplay is amazing…

  • The gear “progression” system is atrocious. End-game progression is waiting for a shop to reset hourly. It is also stacked with a ton of RNG making it virtually pointless to hope for an upgrade.
  • The crafting is reliant on the RNG of the shop - thus just as pointless and also has its own RNG (rolling perks) which gets increasingly expensive (yay…) when it is finished that is… God only knows if we’ll actually get it in “December”
  • The MTX shop is a blatant spit in your face, using the most scummy of practices to make you buy more and then to lie about it, is even more egregorious.
  • A rotating map selection which for the most part feature the exact same missions on different difficulties with an insanely small selection of modifiers that rarely shows up (except for Endless/Few Horde).
  • Currency that isn’t shared between characters.
  • Unfinished systems (Crafting is but a small part of these), suppresion just flat out don’t work…
  • Completely gutting a class so much so that the role it was supposed to fill, it cannot fill any longer and the Devs response to what to do with it is: We don’t know.
  • Promised 70 weapons, what we got was 25 and then 1-5 variants of each. In fact, 5 advertised weapons didn’t even make it to release.
  • Mission crashes, store crashes, crafting crashes, chirugeon crashes, crashes because of weapons, crashes because of feats, crashes when changing graphic options… Man the list of things that can make you crash is so long I’d spend the next week reciting it all.
  • New hardware crashes, most on 12700k and 30x series and above have serious issues just booting up the game.
  • Recommend specs should be playable on “medium” settings can’t actually play medium without severe stuttering.
  • RT is so dysfunctional it had to be turned off.
  • Maps that don’t count for Contracts… This affects all maps in one way or the other.

Somehow they managed to postpone this game several times and I’m sat here thinking, what the hell have you been doing all this time? And that’s me speaking as a Software Dev thinking if I… Even thought of releasing anything in such a state, with such promises and not delivering on them… My boss would have my head.

And that list is continuously growing. I would really like to recommend the game, in its current state, my review will stay negative.

Actually, I forgot a small point that keeps annoying me. Whenever you “preview” your weapons, to change skin or trinket or to just look at it, it is really damn blurry and low quality. Who signed off on that one? Needs to be sharp and crisp.

Weeklies as they are I don’t give a hoot and don’t bother completing them. I play all characters when I want to, which is more or less to get them leveled up enough to use the weapons I want so I stop getting bored. Right now, the only thing keeping me playing is penances and getting my characters leveled up. I feel no attachment to gear because I have no control over it. I feel no attachment to the weekly shop because most of the time it’s worse than me upgrading a lower rarity item, as you said. And I especially don’t feel attachment to the shop that encourages people to stop playing the game and check back every hour for the item they want to hopefully drop.

Weeklies as they are, already are a chore to complete on one character. And I’m someone with 100+ hours. Weekly contracts should be doable by all characters and each reward x5’d. I have yet to see something in the shop after the pre order beta that I want. As it is now, I have no incentive to look at the contracts to have a chance to get what I want but much latter.

Item crafting materials should be shared across characters, along with curios and applicable weapons. Period. Quit making people grind to get all their characters geared how they want them. You already level gate items, so I don’t see why this is an issue.

The mission control as it is implemented is a disaster. You should be able to pick whatever mission you want unmodified, and if you want to pick a modified mission, it should give an incentive to do so. Which it does already. Also up the rewards for grims and scripts already. The only reason people do those objectives is for weeklies.

Why did we get rid of VT2 crafting? I don’t care that Darktide is a different game. I should be able to spend all my resources rolling for the perfect weapon. I want to use a good Thunder Hammer with the right blessings. Let me reroll blessings or make more thunder hammers instead of staring at a shop hoping that it has the right weapons for me to smelt down. The blessing upgrade system is also trash. This isn’t a mobile game, the max level blessing should be all we get. Quit disrespecting the player’s time.

A feature that I actually also find quite essential is a secondary key assignment… I bambuzel constantly with Crouch and Slide, because I have the Slide preferably on Alt and Crouch however rather on Ctrl, unfortunately both are the same key :weary:

That aside, this is a nice summary in terms of game design and features. :+1:t3:

I would like secondary key assignments as well but tbh, I even still gotta try and get used to splitting dodge and jump apart xD changing muscle memory is a b****, ngl

Well I guess they removed the timer for now…we’ll have to see if they will make a catalogue or not. The added 2400 aquila bundle doesnt change the other packs being obfuscating though. Idk, everything is so weird and how issues/concerns are handled.

I made a more elaborate and cohesive feedback essay post over on reddit, as reddit allows me to also use images as additional material to visualise certain points raised. I will keep that one up to date, as it gives me more freedom in terms of formatting.

In that sense, I won’t be updating this post here any longer, so anyone who wants to give this a read, here ya go and thank you very much: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/102demo/darktide_feedback_essay_or_smt/?sort=new
