Thunder Hammer Buffs feel AWESOME

You may know me from such classics as “killing all the crushers” and “I think the hammer is pretty good” and “please let me play the difficulty and intensity that I want”. However I have some great news for hammer lovers - the hammer is officially pretty phreaking sweet.

On my very FIRST attempt at the Crusher Challenge ™ I have managed to kill all the crushers without taking health damage and I could probably do it without taking toughness damage.

The self stun hits the sweet spot of still feeling impactful and having to be played around while also being usable in more challenging melee situations. I am quite excited to bring this weapon with me to a mission but I will not have time until later. For comparison please see this video of the Antax taking on the Challenge and numerous attempts (where I died several times actually, I just left some of the failures out for brevity) to do the same thing before the recent buffs.

Also, and I was pretty sure this was the case before but hadn’t tested it until today unfortunately, it seems like the third heavy swing in the pattern, the overhead, actually hits really really hard when unpowered. It doesn’t hit any harder when powered. But I’m pulling like 500+ damage on carapace headshots right now and that feels awesome. The base headshot damage increase also feels excellent and I am looking forwards to how it feels in game. I suspect the answer will be GOOD.

Dear Fatshark - GOOD JOB.

Yeah I figured the animation lock reduction would clear that little problem.

I am looking forward to seeing how it performs as well in reality. I was able to get the Ironhelm up to the level of Elite killing as Crucis on Damnation but it did take a God Roll just like you were afraid of. Still I did get it up to the power of my Crucis for taking down heavies.

Is it fast enough now to actually get a follow up after knocking bulwark shield away? I missed that a lot when animation cancel was removed.

It actually always was as long as you used charged light attacks. So i’m confident you can get a heavy in now. They stripped about 0.5s of stun off.

Well Deisu is right about the Light Charged, it doesn’t really do that much so a quick followup with that doesn’t work.

I usually just hold my heavy on Charged thrust and wait until the Bulwork swings, then side step left and release to one shot Bulworks.

It was a totally suboptimal technique for dealing with two+ bulwarks. It doesn’t kill them but it’ll re-stun them and tends not to hit the other bulwark’s shield. But yeah, i also mostly just charge up a heavy and swing a counter.

Yeah me too just not always super feasible depending on what may be with them. So if I’m understanding correctly you can get a second special light off after guard break? But still not a special heavy?

You could get the light off before the patch. I haven’t tested after on the heavy. Won’t be able to for several hours so some other chad will have to go to the psykhanium and try it.

I did take a quick test run in a High Intensity Throneside a sec ago,

Was a bad testing environment because it was just shooters upon shooters upon shooters, BUT… I did get a lot of mixed Hordes in there, and with the God Rolled Ironhelm, it works exactly like your little test does Deisu. Multi-Crusher, Multi-Bulwork, Multi-Ragers are doable.

Admittedly with the God Roll, I Two Shot Crushers. and I noticed that in actual play it will one shot Maulers due to the Martyrdom stacks. So yeah Ironhelm with God Roll performs excellently now in mixed hordes.

EDIT: Also one shots Mutant’s very easily. But still has some phantom hit problems.

Awesome! That is super exciting because it is, i think, exactly what everyone was hoping for out of the hammer. I know yours is toppest tier but i’m sure i can pull it off, albiet a bit slower, even with my just “excellent” ironhelm then.

I’m jealous.

Well Its not as hard as you think to get the high rolled weapon.

I mean I think I bought probably around 60 hammers, of those only about 10 got the high enough rolls, then I used my mega stacked up Plasteel that I hadn’t used in a long time to bring them all up to Orange and put the set up the blessings and perks.

But then again when you have enough time on a character you tend to rack up an enormous amount of Gold and Plasteel.

I haven’t gotten any with good perks that also had better than two level 3 blessings, one with reroll. I did the same thing. I have some pretty good ironhelms, but not what I want.

Yeah I got lucky on the T4 Thrust,

Ironically,I got an Ironhelm drop after a mission, and while the stats on it were crap, it came with that Blessing, so I Turned it in and then traded it out for the T3 Thrust on my others. It turned out to be the last piece of the puzzle to get me to Crucis territory.
