Thoughts on reverting the Smite changes?

So I have found the new changes to smite and the reversion of the smite for free bug to be less than desirable.
I was wondering what you guys in the community think about the changes.
Do you think smite on Psyker should be changed back to lower damage, but free cast after getting a stack of empowered psionics or do you think that the increase in damage actually gives it a place over something like surge staff?

I think smite is awesome when free and is fun to play when it’s a low damage wide area stun. It is understandable that smite would cause some issues depending on how the maelstrom shakes out for the current day, but there could be limits on teh amount of time that you get for free casting. Lets say 10-15 seconds of free cast to force someone into not using the ability as a crutch in 90% melee maelstrom.

Smite is a lot less fun after the patch.

I’m not sure it should be infinite, but its value was definitely in the extended crowd control duration. The current ‘damage +’ version is still too weak, and causes too much rapid Peril generation, to be particularly useful.

I think empowered smite is far stronger than surge staves for clearing and controlling massed trash. It’s also easily the strongest SHTF preventer in the game.

I find it much more fun as-is.

If you’re having trouble using it for CCing trash enemies over a longer period, get a good chain built up then release the smite to knock everything on its ass, vent, then repeat until the situation is dealt with. It’s much more peril-efficient and safe, not to mention engaging, than just holding the smite up until you hit 100% peril.

You pretty much never want to hit 100% peril and have it auto-deactivate, since that won’t knock anything down. If you want to use it with empowered psionics to microwave a horde wave, just drop the smite at ~95% so you knock everything down and it doesn’t immediately start closing distance on you while you vent.

I think a slight decrease in peril generation would do just fine.

the free cast bug literally broke the game because you could effectively just sidedodge through the whole mission to keep up with your team while maintaining a fully charged up smite everywhere you looked. it being low damage also meant every “X on kill” Talent was useless for it cause you never killed anything. i think smite’s in a good place right now, it does enough damage to get you some kills, doesnt stun specials so quick that they become irrelevant, and generates so much peril that you have to constantly be on your toes about when you vent so you dont end up caught off guard by something you really shouldve been stunning.

I like smite… but i did not test it before this patch

I find it really good against horde. If you use also the surge staff, you get a tool to stagger horde and a tool to kill specials / elites.
Not sure it needs more power… and I am a bad psyker
