They forgot the Greatsword in the rebalance patch

1- “But it’s not bad!” It’s not good either. Both Kruber and Saltz have excellent crowd control options without suffering the crappy single target damage of the GS. I almost never see anyone use this thing on any career.

2 - Pretty much its current only use case is as a mixed horde clearer on Mercenary, where its lack of collision just makes it feel like a weird infinite-cleave lightsaber with still minimal damage. Its only decent anti-armor attack costs stamina and a push to use… almost every other Krub/Saltz melee can deal with elites/armor without wasting time and stamina.

3 - “Actually I use this all the time!” I have 2400 hours. I NEVER see any of you lying contrarians use this save for fresh installs, and maybe someone using it as designated Mercenary horde staggerer on Cata+. And even with that niche latter use case, it’s still far from fun. Its optimal use is braindead spam of heavies and never engages the lights or push attack.

4 - “They’re just touching stats. It needs a new moveset.” I agree. There have been many great suggestions on changing the moveset like this or this, but I realize expecting FS to do work is unreasonable.
HOWEVER… Darktide has THREE greatswords with way better animation/attack sets already, that means the work is already done for them, beyond the copy and paste + adjusting numbers.

PLEASE… this weapon has sucked since day 1 of Vermintide 1. It’s never had any proper use case, when its niche could easily be explored. It should be a jack-of-all-trades midpoint weapon between the Executioner Sword and Bret Longsword… not as good at single target decimation as the Ex, and slower than the Longsword without the parry mechanic… but still a good option of dealing with hordes and single targets alike… you know, like a REAL Greatsword.
It doesn’t have to be S tier viable in a way that rivals the Rapier or Longsword, but for Sigmar’s sake, at least give it some reasonable layer of interaction to make it interesting.

Play Tzeentch Twins Vanguard and one of the best Melee Weapons in the game.

Footknight with Stagger THP is insane with it. Charge lets you deal with masses of Elite with CC rather than raw DPS. Still does a lot of damage. + Stamina for extra Push-Attacks.

Grail Knight is completely fine with it, his Passive Movement Speed and Career Skill both play into the build. Also can Push-Attack more, with the Stamina Regen Talent.

WHC, you use Lights a lot more, but can also Push-Attack with his Stamina Regen Talent.

Zealot is insane with it. With the THP generation build he’s nearly unkillable if you play properly - with a SoTT, he’s S+ with non-Stagger Weapons.

ive seen a couple this year, all on zealot (honestly might have been the same guy now that i think about it) there aint many people left.

i think the problem of the greatsword is not the numbers, but the fun aspect. it just gets old really fast. simply doesnt tickle your neurons as much..

been in favor of a different moveset since release (swords can do so much, and the best we can think of is swing left to right, cmon)

FS may think the GS already works well as a good-enough, cool-ish, dead-simple starter weapon. I wonder if it sees a lot of play on lower difficulties, or from new (are there any?) players.

I would love to see it pick up the moves from either relic blade or force greatsword, though. (Or maybe the HS … I don’t remember how it plays.) I use the GS occasionally, but do lose interest pretty quickly.

Probably me, it’s the only weapon I use on Zealot :joy:

I do use heavies the most, along with lots of push attacks but it’s far from braindead. Finding a rhythm with dodges and occasional push attacks (to stagger everything and finish off one armor unit) is really satisfying.

Light attacks are excellent when there’s a horde without armor, but if you play on high difficulties that almost never happens (so, heavies). The sheer amount of damage you can lay down in mixed hordes especially if you hit the headshots is amazing.

uh… that’s literally what it is?

This I feel is valid, but still… meh? It feels like more of a personal preference thing. The moveset is simple but the attacks feel awesome, very hefty and satisfying. Slicing a group of enemies in half is :ok_hand:

I agree regarding “finding a rhythm.” Squeezing the most out of the weapon can be interesting exercise. The push attack can interact with the Zealot in an interesting way, too. OTOH, I’m not a fan of the weapon’s feel - I think it’s that the swings are hefty enough, but the strikes - which, even more than many other weapons, simply pass through targets - aren’t something I enjoy. I might play it a lot more if I played the Zealot much. One of my least-played careers.

As you say, personal taste.
